Blue/Yellow/Red for gameboy may only trade with each other.

Gold/Silver/Crystal for gameboy color may only trade with each other (I'm not sure if they may trade with Pokemon stadium for N64, I've not played it.)

LeafGreen/FireRed/Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald for gameboy advance/sp/micro may only trade with each other, and only migrate to Diamond and pearl.

Diamond and Pearl may only trade with each other and only receive Pokemon through migration from Ruby/Sapphire/LeafGreen/FireRed/Emerald.

You may also receive a Jirachi from Pokemon Channel upon the game's completion and the defeat of the elite 4 on only Ruby/Sapphire.

You may trade between Pokemon Collosseum to Sapphire/Ruby (possibly Leaf/Fire/Emerald, too. I'm not sure, but I don't think so.)

You may trade between Pokemon XD to Sapphire/Ruby/LeafGreen/FireRed/Emerald.

G/S/C could trade with R/B/Y with the Time Capsule.
Guest said: 9th Dec 2011 | REPORT
can you also get jirachi on emreald with the special gift thing?
Guest said: 9th Sep 2012 | REPORT
You can trade between R/B/Y and transfer to G/S/C.

You can trade between G/S/C, but cannot transfer to R/S/E or at least that i'm concerned.

You can trade between R/S/E/FR/LG and transfer to D/P/Pl/HG/SS.

You can trade between D/P/Pt/HG/SS and transfer to B/W/B2/W2. (This is a new version of what the previous guy wrote, I just updated it and clarified it more for everyone. Smile

Pokemon GSC could trade Pokemon BACK to RBY, but the Pokemon must be #001-151 and must know only Gen 1 moves.

ok i see so many comments saying you cant trade from versions apperantly they have not done there research for instance silver has the time capsule for trading pokemon in the past here is how you do it you need 2 original gbc's and an a gameboy color link cable you can trade from blue all the way to white you just need the correct systems and links i am currently in the proccess of doing it myself. hope this helps
Guest said: 8th Feb 2014 | REPORT
yes u can trade ruby to firered and other way around same goes for leafgreen sapphire and emerald these are all GBA games that support the same link support cables
Guest said: 7th Mar 2015 | REPORT
You can get all three starter pokemon on a single game. You just need a second copy (or the companion game) and a second system. Let's say you're playing Red and you started with Charmander. You then take Blue and start a new game with Squirtle. You then play for a short while until the Cable Club is unlocked in Viridian City. You then trade Squirtle with another pokemon that you have in Red, then save. Then start another new game in Blue, this time with Bulbasaur, wash rinse repeat and voila; you have all three starter pokemon on the same game. Whether they did something to prevent you from doing this in future game I don't know, but if not, just follow the same steps (replacing nouns where appropriate), and there you go.
EspeonDude_ answered:

Gold can only trade with Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver or Crystal. It can't trade with anything higher.

eonteam123456 answered:

No, Gold is second generation Pokemon, Ruby and Fire Red are third. You can trade with any first gen games though and Silver and Crystal.

Could you explain with some more detail. I'm trying to trade all my starters and rares from red and yellow up to the current games, and I'm having problems.
Poketard answered:

I think you can but you must trade to crystal then to ruby or saphire and then to fire red or leaf green

No. Red, Blue, Yellow; Gold, Silver, and Crystal are all 75% compatible. (can't trade GSC Pokemon back to RBY)
Guest answered:

The lower can trade to the higher through eachother one by one but not directly and the higher like emerald cant trade to blue or yellow and stuff unless its a pokemon that has no new moves that are higher than the other games

Guest answered:

you can only do it with the help of pokemon colloseum (spelling?) for nitendo gamecube

if you get a emulator on a computer and download the game you might be able to trade onto the computehe of one game and put it on the other
Guest answered:

wwell this really doesnt help cuz i want to trade from emerald to gold to sapphire with one ds

Guest answered:

All the Games can trade up but not down so you can trade from Blue/Red/ yellow to a higher version but you cant trade oppisite meaning going from diamon or peral to blue red or yellow. so if you have been with the hole game since it started and have a version with all of your pokemon then you can get them up threw the ranks from Blue and red or even with yellow surfing pikachu to diamond and peral but it will take a lot of time and more then lickly a bunch of head aches befor you get your beloved charmander and the other legendary pokemon that you want in your version.

bow013 answered:

I am not saying you can or you can't I just want some proof. If you can trade from crystal to ruby can you please tell me how you did it and what equipment you would need to do it. Then I would be able go though the steps myself and form my own opinion.

Guest answered:

If you trade from gold to red/blue then using a special link cable you can trade to ruby/sapphire/emerald/leaf green/ fire red

Guest answered:

My friend got her level 98 pikachu from yellow to black and here's how :
You will need two gameboys, two ds systems, one transfer cable and ALOT of patience. ;)
1 - Trade/transfer your chosen Pokemon Ruby/Saphire/Emerald using the two gameboys/ and the transfer cable(You might need to defeat the elite four before this).
2 - On Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinium/Soulsilver/Heartgold, Get the natioal dex and transfer the previous chosen Pokemon to one of the above games also using one gameboy and one ds system
3 - After getting the national dex and defeating the elite 4 and N, transfer the same previous Pokemon via the transfer machine. You will need the two ds systems
Hope this helped!

How do you get from yellow to emerald?
Guest said: 3rd Apr 2013 | REPORT
You can't.
Guest answered:

Actually, no. Why, well I'll put it in simple terms. In a way, are&S were made from scratch entirely. Gen III was a brand new beginning.

Some say you can you, but you have to catch your old Pokemon is field again, or you can by going to the time machine in one of the games.
Guest said: 16th Apr 2012 | REPORT
It's a hard concept but maybe lol
Guest said: 11th Sep 2013 | REPORT
Does no1 realise it isn't possible because 3th gen introduced abilities so older pokemon wouldn't have these and would corrupt the game data
Guest answered:

You can't normally, but if you are using an emulator and ROM files, you can use an utility called Metropolis Save Editor, and convert Pokemon from Gen 1 to 2 or 3, Gen 2 to 1 or 3 or even Gen 3 to 2 or 1.

Warning: Conversion is not perfect and Pokemon that did not exist in previous generations are disallowed.

Guest answered:

Several people failed to mention you can migrate from Red/Blue/Green/Yellow to Gold/Silver or Crystal via the time chamber in Gold/Silver and Crystal as long as the moves know match gen 1 or in the case of green the copy of gold/silver or crystal is Japanese, due to the fact that green is the Japanese only equal to blue.
