You have to beat the elite four on all three of the games first
No.
Blue/Yellow/Red for gameboy may only trade with each other.
Gold/Silver/Crystal for gameboy color may only trade with each other (I'm not sure if they may trade with Pokemon stadium for N64, I've not played it.)
LeafGreen/FireRed/Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald for gameboy advance/sp/micro may only trade with each other, and only migrate to Diamond and pearl.
Diamond and Pearl may only trade with each other and only receive Pokemon through migration from Ruby/Sapphire/LeafGreen/FireRed/Emerald.
You may also receive a Jirachi from Pokemon Channel upon the game's completion and the defeat of the elite 4 on only Ruby/Sapphire.
You may trade between Pokemon Collosseum to Sapphire/Ruby (possibly Leaf/Fire/Emerald, too. I'm not sure, but I don't think so.)
You may trade between Pokemon XD to Sapphire/Ruby/LeafGreen/FireRed/Emerald.
Heres how... You don't,cant,never will
Gold can only trade with Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver or Crystal. It can't trade with anything higher.
No, Gold is second generation Pokemon, Ruby and Fire Red are third. You can trade with any first gen games though and Silver and Crystal.
No you can not trade ruby too gold. Because it's a gameboy game ruby is a gameboy avd....... Rocklee_leaf...
I know yoi can because my cousin played it non stop. Anyway he traded Pokemon that were like from blue and red(without any new moves/pokemon)So I tried it and it worked so yes you can.
I think you can but you must trade to crystal then to ruby or saphire and then to fire red or leaf green
The lower can trade to the higher through eachother one by one but not directly and the higher like emerald cant trade to blue or yellow and stuff unless its a pokemon that has no new moves that are higher than the other games
you can only do it with the help of pokemon colloseum (spelling?) for nitendo gamecube
wwell this really doesnt help cuz i want to trade from emerald to gold to sapphire with one ds
All the Games can trade up but not down so you can trade from Blue/Red/ yellow to a higher version but you cant trade oppisite meaning going from diamon or peral to blue red or yellow. so if you have been with the hole game since it started and have a version with all of your pokemon then you can get them up threw the ranks from Blue and red or even with yellow surfing pikachu to diamond and peral but it will take a lot of time and more then lickly a bunch of head aches befor you get your beloved charmander and the other legendary pokemon that you want in your version.
I am not saying you can or you can't I just want some proof. If you can trade from crystal to ruby can you please tell me how you did it and what equipment you would need to do it. Then I would be able go though the steps myself and form my own opinion.

If you trade from gold to red/blue then using a special link cable you can trade to ruby/sapphire/emerald/leaf green/ fire red
My friend got her level 98 pikachu from yellow to black and here's how :
You will need two gameboys, two ds systems, one transfer cable and ALOT of patience. ;)
1 - Trade/transfer your chosen Pokemon Ruby/Saphire/Emerald using the two gameboys/ and the transfer cable(You might need to defeat the elite four before this).
2 - On Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinium/Soulsilver/Heartgold, Get the natioal dex and transfer the previous chosen Pokemon to one of the above games also using one gameboy and one ds system
3 - After getting the national dex and defeating the elite 4 and N, transfer the same previous Pokemon via the transfer machine. You will need the two ds systems .
Hope this helped!
Actually, no. Why, well I'll put it in simple terms. In a way, are&S were made from scratch entirely. Gen III was a brand new beginning.
You can't normally, but if you are using an emulator and ROM files, you can use an utility called Metropolis Save Editor, and convert Pokemon from Gen 1 to 2 or 3, Gen 2 to 1 or 3 or even Gen 3 to 2 or 1.
Warning: Conversion is not perfect and Pokemon that did not exist in previous generations are disallowed.
Several people failed to mention you can migrate from Red/Blue/Green/Yellow to Gold/Silver or Crystal via the time chamber in Gold/Silver and Crystal as long as the moves know match gen 1 or in the case of green the copy of gold/silver or crystal is Japanese, due to the fact that green is the Japanese only equal to blue.
