How do I catch a red Gyrados?

Question for Pokemon Gold
How do I catch a red Gyrados? I need one to get a golden Magikarp, and I used like four ultra balls on it. Is there a cheat I can use to capture it without wasting all my ultra balls?

There is not really any cheat to it, but I reccomend either using a masterball(from Professor Elm), or get one or two lure balls, weaken the Pokemon greatly, then capture it.

Try using an attack called False Swipe, Scyther learns it. This attack will NEVER kill a pokémon, instead it will reduce it down to 1 HP. Then try to put it asleep or paralyze it. Once all this is done a simple Ultra Ball (or even better a Heavy Ball) should catch it

Maybe you could save the game before you go into battle with gyarados.

As long as you have weakened it enough, you shouldn't need alot of ultra balls. I've caught my red Gyrados every single time using only poke balls. Try getting a Pokemon you can paralyze it with. I.e. Butterfree for stun spore or Flaaffy for thunder wave. Usually then It's easier to catch.

Just weaken it into the red zone, and use ultra balls. That's all you can do really.

So you want a gold magikarp? You can get it but it is a low chance of getting it. 1500000 chance of not getting it,20 chance of getting it. Gold magikarps are really hard to get,they are even more rare than a orange pikachu.

Red Gyarados can be catch with a Master Ball,and what you should do is beat all 8 gym leaders and go to Prof.Elm's lab and he'll give you a Master Ball...then catch the Red Gyarados.
