Err I don't think you can get Mewtwos in this game, and you can only get it through trade. (I think)

Heh, there are still a small group of us that play the best Pokemon game that has ever existed. I am glad to see another fellow playing Pokemon Gold as well.

In order to get Mewtwo, you have to trade him to your file on Pokemon Gold from either Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, or Pokemon Yellow. That is the only way to get a Mewtwo on Pokemon Gold, unless for some strange reason, Nintendo decides to hold Nintendo Events for this game again. Hope this helps.

Trade from Red/Blue/Yellow. Mewtwo might be in the cerulean cave but it's easier to get Mewtwo in R/B/Y if they do the Old Missingno. Encountering technique. It will come out if they have "D" in their name

pokemon gold does not contain any mewtwo.. it can b trade from red, blue or yellow. but there is another great game that reall luks like pokemon gold. the advance one. POkemon heart gold. luks like pkmn gold. But I dont play it yet. gonna try ds new one.
