Far Cry 5 returns sports a massive, open-World environment divided to three regions, each controlled by a Seed family member. Your main objective is to slowly claw your way up and help the local resistance forces free themselves from the clasp of the crazy cultists ruling the land. There are several ways to do it methodically:
You’ll come across innocent civilians in need of desperate help. You may find some being dragged by the crazy cultists, bound behind their backs, or about to the murdered next. Kill their captors and free them, and they might share valuable intel about Prepper stashes, cult outpost locations, cult structure spots, new characters (who may give side missions), etc.
There are also regular prisoner vans plying the roads of the county, transporting “sinners” to various cult locations. You only need to kill the driver to free the prisoners inside. Obviously, you should avoid using explosives in stopping these vans. You have to be careful with collateral damage as well. If you accidentally kill a civilian, non-cultist NPCs nearby might turn against you.
Cult properties such as hallucinogenic gas shrines or silos are conveniently marked red so it’s easy to spot them from a distance. There are also supply vehicles such as cargo boats or fuel trucks that can be targeted to disrupt the cult’s supply line. You can choose whatever method you want to destroy these properties. The easiest method would be using explosives, grenades, dynamites, vehicle weapons, rockets, and many more.
These are the various cult strongholds scattered across the land. Liberating them has a huge impact against the church and for The Resistance. Liberated outposts lowers the cult’s influence and clears up the fog in the immediate area. The local militia that will occupy freed outposts will provide much needed services such as Guns for Hire, shops, garages, side missions, and intel about Prepper stashes. Outposts also have maps in them. Reading these will permanently reveal nearby points of interest in the map.
Aside from the main story missions, there are a lot of missions available per region which are given by various NPCs from liberated outposts or locations. None of the missions expire so you can take your time and order to complete them.
You can review your active missions any time by accessing the Journal in your main menu.
There are four different missions in the game:
Story Missions
These are missions tied to the story and has overall impact to the game. Specialist missions, though not required, are still considered as story missions since you permanently unlock the Specialists as allies.
Side Missions
These are sidequests or optional tasks that provide a considerable amount of Resistance Points with additional rewards such as vehicles, outfits, etc.
Outposts
Discover new outposts by talking to various NPCs or reading notes or letters in former cultist locations. Outpost missions will be automatically added to your journal as well by getting near its location. These missions should prioritized since they'll provide a safe haven and vital resupply point for you as you work on other missions.
Prepper Stashes
These are also optional yet very important missions that will require you to solve some sort of environmental puzzles where you have to find a way to get into a tagged Prepper's bunker or stash. Successfully getting into these abandoned stashes will award you with tons of money, 3 perk magazines, a lot of materials, ammo, and even weapons. Whenever you find one, take some time in completing them. The intel for these prepper stashes will usually come from random NPCs walking around the World or talking to some of the people from liberated outposts. Just look for the diamond icon on top of their heads.
