Mauville City

Thank you for printing this page from www.SuperCheats.com. Remember to come back to check for updates to this guide and much more content for Pokemon Alpha Sapphire

Last Updated:

The city has gone through a massive redesign since its Ruby and Sapphire days. Mauville City is the largest city in the region, and is home to a lot of significant establishments and shops. It is also located in the center of the region where four major routes from all directions converge. As soon as you enter, you'll spot Wally. After the scene, you're free to explore the city.

Guide Image

Refer to the list of places of interest in the city below. For your convenience, the establishments are divided in the general area they're located.

South (To Route 110)

Bike Parking Lot

You'll find an X-Speed in the parking lot's southeast corner, behind a sign.

Guide Image

Mauville Food Court

This is located in the right side of the city's exit leading to Route 110. Introduced in Pokemon OR/AS, the Mauville Food Court functions similarly as the restaurants in Pokemon XY's Lumiose City. After placing your order, you'll be given a seat. While you're waiting for your food, various trainers will approach and challenge you to battle, in an attempt to take away your seat. For now, the only available food you can order is the Village Sub Combo which costs P1000. This combo consists of Single Battles only. More food choices will be unlocked later on. For the list of trainers and meal sets, refer to this link.

Eastern Wing (To Route 118)

Song and Sword Move Academy

This is one of the Move Tutors available in the city. On your first visit, the tutor may not be available. But this is the shop where you can teach Secret Sword for Keldeo, and Relic Song for Meleotta. You can find the worker in the Cafe located in the west wing of the city.

Guide Image

Pledge Move Dojo

This is where you'll find the Move tutor that will teach the Pledge Moves to any start Pokemon from any Region. Pledge moves can be combined with each other, dealing additional damage and creating various effects.

Guide Image

Ultimate Move Dojo

This tutor teaches the ultimate move for any starter from any region. The only requirement is to have them evolved to their full form before they can learn these moves.

Inverse Battle Stop

As the name implies, this establishment will pit you in a battle where Pokemon type weaknesses are reversed. For example, normally a Water-type move can deal super effective damage to a Fire pokemon. In an Inverse battle, the type weakness is switched. Water-type moves no longer deal super effective damage to Fire Pokemon but Fire-type moves can land super-effective damage to Water-Type Pokemon. More details are found on this page.

Battle Institute Hoenn

As soon as you enter, a man in a suit will give you a Vs. Recorder. This will add a feature in your game that will allow you to record versus matches against friends or random opponents. The Battle Institute in Hoenn works the same way as the previous games. Players will fight in five consecutive battles in a Battle Test. It can be Singles Battles which require three Pokemon, or Double Battles, requiring four Pokemon.

During the battle, all Pokemon will become LV50. Bag items can't be used as well. At the end of the battle, the player will get a score and rank. Depending on their overall score, they'll receive a corresponding amount of BP (Battle Points) and a vitamin. The difficulty for each match escalates per round so it's possible to face Legendaries at the end. For more information about this, please follow this link.

Guide Image

For your first visit, you won't be able to participate in any battle; you should come back later once you've become stronger.

Rydel's Cycles

This is the shop where you can get a free bike. You can choose whether you want an Acro or Mach bike. You're free to swap between them but you need to visit Rydel's shop to do so. There's also a method of keeping both bikes. Refer to this link for more details.

Now that you have the bike, you can go back to the Cycling Road and face the trainers there and get more items. For more details, follow this link.

North (To Route 111)

TV Mauville

This is where the shows in your BuzzNav is broadcasted. There isn't anything of interest inside the building except that you can sit on the news desk and the camera view will change similar to a live broadcast. Doing this however, doesn't put you in the BuzzNav.

Mauville City Gym

You'll find Wally and his uncle in front of the Gym during the first time you visit it. A scene will trigger where you'll get to choose whether you'll battle Wally or not.

Pokemon Trainer Wally (Reward: p680)

  • LV17 Ralts (Psychic/Fairy)

After defeating Wally, his uncle will give you HM06 Rock Smash. You're free to challenge the Gym or explore the upper level by taking the stairs. Refer to this link for the dedicated page for the Mauville Gym battles.

Mauville Hills

The elevators to the north lead to the upscale residential area of Mauville City which will remain inaccessible until you help Wattson investigate New Mauville. This will be tackled later in the story so just ignore it for now.

West Wing (To Route 117)

Pokemon Reflexology Services

Once a day, you can bring your lead Pokemon here and give it a massage. This will make your Pokemon more friendly towards you.

PokeMileage Center

You can exchange your PokeMiles here for items:

Item PM Cost
Berry Juice 10
Moomoo Milk 20
Full Heal 30
Max Repel 35
Hyper Potion 60
Ultra Ball 60
Ether 120
Max Potion 125
Full Restore 300
Max Revive 400
Rare Candy 500
PP Up 1000

Narcissus Mirror Shop

If you have Torndaus, Thundurus, and Landorus, visit this store to receive a Reveal Glass. This key item will allow any of these three Legendaries to transform between their Incarnate or Therian Formes.

Ritzy Ribbon Retail

This shop sells ridiculously expensive Ribbons that doesn't have any practical effect or display of merit. This is probably a show of status only to those who can afford it.

Closed Shop

If you talk to the old man outside the closed shop in the west wing, he'll give you a Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip dolls for your secret base.

Guide Image

Crooner's Cafe

The old man in the lower right seems to be the attendant in the Song and Sword Move Academy in the East Wing. Talk to the barrista to receive TM48 Round.

Guide Image

Mauville Square

This is a small plaza located in the middle of the city's ground floor. To the southwest of the plaza, you'll find two pet Pokemon that you can scan with your DexNav to register and increase its Search Level. There's also a hidden X Defense behind the Square Tower in the middle of the plaza. Next, talk to the backpacker to the southeast to receive a Globe that you can use to decorate your Secret Base.

Guide Image

Poke Mart

The mart also sells various Tms for p10,000 each. There's also a woman on the right side of the store that will give you TM58 Sky Drop.

Pokemon Center

Talk to the old man named Giddy who is standing in front of the map to the upper right corner of the Pokemon Center. Just keep answering "Yes" to his stories and you'll receive the Speed O-Power from him. Talk to him once again, and let him speak to receive the Critical Power from him. After that, he'll go home to Mauville Hills. His friends will replace him in the same spot but they'll only appear after you reach certain points in the story (like earning new Gym badges) so make sure to check them out once in a while.

Guide Image

Roof Deck

Head to the highest floor in the city using any of the stairs in the corners. If you head to the southwest portion of the area, a man will stop you and give you a Nugget before leaving. Now equip your Dowsing Machine since there are two hidden items in the area.

Guide Image

Head to the west and find a Luxury Ball under the west tower. There's also a hidden Max Repel under the East tower.

There's a guy to the north that will sell a Metronome for p1,000. There's also a Taillow that you can scan for your DexNav. Next, talk to the Delinquent chick to the northeast and answer "Yes" to all her questions to receive a Poke Toy. To the southeast you'll find a pet Poochyena that you can also scan.
