Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Pokemon Omega Ruby brings back the hero and heroine of the original Sapphire and Ruby titles: Brendan and May. With the latest remake, both of them gets a great makeover. Players can still choose to play as them and change their names as players please.

Selecting which one to play is purely aesthetic. There is no benefit or disadvantage from choosing one over the other. There will only be slight differences in dialogue since the other main character you don't select will become your friendly rival and reliable ally in certain parts of the game. Whoever you choose, the story will remain unchanged.
