Oldale Town

Upon arriving in town, you'll be greeted by a supremely kindhearted Pokemart clerk. He'll introduce the Pokemart and also give you some Potions. Head inside the Pokemon Center and heal up your Pokemon if necessary. If you redeemed the giveaway Shiny Beldum, the girl standing in front of the counter to the left will give it to you. Once done, leave the Pokemon Center and check out the town if you want. Otherwise, you can leave to the north to reach Route 103.

Route 103

You'll find May staring off in front of the pond ahead. Talk to her to trigger a short scene. She'll challenge you to a friendly battle afterward.

After defeating her, she'll heal up your Pokemon. You now need to return back to the lab in your town so just keep heading straight to the south to return quickly. Enter the lab for another cutscene. During this scene, you'll now receive your Pokedex. You'll also receive some Pokeballs from May. Now that's done, leave the town. On your way out, you'll be stopped by your mother. After that, attempt to leave again and May will stop you and upgrade your PokeNav. This time, you'll have the DexNav app installed in your device.

Follow May further in Route 101 and she'll teach you how to use your new DexNav to spot wild Pokemon, especially the ones sticking out in the grass. She'll also teach you how to carefully sneak behind the wild Pokemon to catch it off guard and trigger an encounter.

Try capturing this particular Poochyena since it will have a rare move, depending on the starter you selected. For Treecko, it will have Thunder Fang. For Torchic, it will have Ice Fang, and for Mudkip, it will be using Fire Fang.

Continue to Oldale Town. Now that you have your Pokedex, you can now transfer any Pokemon you have in the Pokemon Bank. If you have especially-bred starters from your other Pokemon games that were migrated to the Pokemon Bank, they will give you an edge early in your adventure. If you also have completed the special demo, you can now transfer Glalie and other items via Pokemon Link.
