The most basic of questions is Which Edition of Witcher 3 do you buy? There are several to choose from and depending on how big a fan you are, well, there are some you are probably going to want very badly....

To make this simple here are the editions with brief content descriptions for The Witcher 3:

1. Boxed Retail Edition

This is your basic video game. No frills, no spills, just pure Witcher game play and excitement!

This edition comes with the standard game box slid into a cardboard sleeve. Inside the box you will fidn the following:

  • The Game Disc

  • The Soundtrack Disc

  • The Game Manual (such as it is)

  • The Witcher Universe Compendium

  • Witcher Stickers

  • Battle Arena Hero with Extra Skin Code (Inside front cover of The Witcher Universe Compendium)

  • The Witcher House of Glass Comic Book Code (Inside back cover of The Witcher Universe Compendium)

  • A folded up Map of the Northern Realms ... Map.

  • Dear Gamer Insert - a nice note from CD Projekt Red telling us about the 16 Free DLC (woot!)

The Witcher Battle Arena -- This is an app/game on iOS that is free-to-download, free-to-play (sort of) fast, fun, and fantastic MOBA that pits two three-hero teams against each other, as they try to capture (and hold) conquest points. Battle Arena is a MOBA game that was engineered and designed for the mobile game platforms.

We said it is sorta free because you can spend money if you want to. But you do not HAVE to. You can unlock everything - EVERYTHING - just by playing the game. But if time is your enemy and you simply cannot put in the effort and grind - well then you can purchase time.

What you need to understand is that expression he is wearing on his face? That is his reaction to learning what was actually INSIDE the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Collectior's Edition of the game! Yep all he got was the Retail Boxed Edition with the pre-order rewards - he had NO idea that the CE has a statue, collector-grade case, art book, and cloth maps, as well as a Witcher Medallion and two decks of Gwent cards. Yeah, it was learning about the Gwent cards that sent him over hte edge...

The code that is found inside the front cover of The Witcher Universe Compendium unlocks a special hero and an alternate skin in the game. Please take note that the Code on the inside of the front cover is a code for the game and NOT Xbox LIVE or the iOS Code Scheme. You need to redeem that code inside The Witcher Battle Arena in other words.

Note that Battle Arena will ONLY work on the new generations of iOS hardware. Specifically it requires iPhone 5 or above, iPad 3 and above, iPad Mini 2 and above. It will NOT work on the earlier generations of the iPod Touch. Fair notice mates.

The Witcher House of Glass Comic Book Issue #1 Code -- this code is found on the inside back cover of The Witcher Universe Compendium and is intended to be redeemed at the Darkhorse Website and NOT via Xbox LIVE or Apple iTunes.

2. Collector's Edition (Xbox One, PS4, PC)

The Collector's Edition is the edition that is created for gamers who are major fans of the game series... You know who you are!

In addition to everything included in the Retail Boxed Edition, it also contains the following items:

  • 200 page hardcover art book

  • Statue: Geralt vs. The Griffon

  • Steelbook Case

  • Stickers

  • Witcher Medallion
