Witcher Contracts: Novigrad

Act I: Novigrad Contracts

To make this guide easier to use we break each of the Acts up into their logical components, with the contracts divided as makes sense for that purpose. The following are the contracts for the main story that take place during the period in which you are based in Novigrad...

An Elusive Thief

Track down and deal with the Imp

Flagged by a Novigrad Notice Board - Suggested Level: 13

WARNING: If you are going to choose the honorable option to complete this mission be sure to play Gwent with the Merchant BEFORE you do the quest so that you get his card, because you may not be able to after.

A Novigrad merchant by the name of Sylvester Armello had hung a notice on the Novigrad board asking for help in tracking down a thieving imp. It seemed the merchants' guild was being pestered by a mysterious creature who kept stealing wars from its members stalls. Geralt accepted the job.

Head to the market and have a hard to believe conversation with a merchant named Sylvester who takes himself very seriously... Then follow hte Imp with your Witcher Senses...

You follow the tracks, gaining some clues as to what it might be - or at least for sure what it is not - and then lose its trail on the bridge over the moat...

Dive into the center of the moat then locate the trail again and you discover that the paw prints now turn into boot prints that lead to the open door of a house.

Inside you find a letter - and read it to learn that your target is a doppler. You have to find a good lead to track it down. As you search upstairs you find a scent of perfume that you can track. Using that and your Witcher Senses, you

When you find the doppler you have to confront it! Why do they always run?

The doppler turns in to someone you know and then you have to battle it!

I opted to let him live - and ordered him out of the region. YMMV.

When we returned to the merchant he was something of a jerk... Go figure?

Completing this quest unlocks the Achievement: The Doppler Effect (15g) Resolve the doppler problem in Novigrad

Objectives

  • Go to the marketplace during the day and talkt o Sylvester Amello

  • Follow the Imp using your Witcher Senses

  • Search the house with your Witcher Senses

  • Read the Letter

  • Find a way to track the doppler using your Witcher Senses

  • Follow the scent of the perfume using your Witcher Senses

  • Confront the doppler

  • Defeat the doppler.

  • Return to the marketplace during the day to talk to Sylvester Amello

The Apiarian Phantom

Kill the monster known as Aoiarian Phantom

Flagged at a Notice Board in the wilderness of Novigrad - Suggested Level: 14

While traversing the outskirts of Novigrad, Geralt happened across a contract on a creature known as the Apiarian Phantom. It had been hung by a certain Holofernes Meiersdorf, owner of the Honeyfill beekeeping plantation. Geralt decided to pursue the bounty....

You meet the contract giver and his sons and learn what they know, and then you follow two of the sons to the attack site.

Examine the attack site using your Witcher Senses and you find three clues that reveal some information - and the path of footprints you can follow.

Follow the tracks to the edge of the lake and then swim to the other side and find where they emerge. That location has a pack of Level 18 Drowners so be nimble and keep healed while you deal with them before resuming the trail!

the tracks finally lead you to a narrow cave opening at the ruins of a building. There is a basement entrance but the door is both sturdy and locked.

Luckily one of the halflings shows up with the key after you try opening the door and fail. Using that key you open the door and go in, and discover that the beast is a Wild Hunt Hound!

OK here is the thing - trying to kill it with your sword is not going to work real well, because this Hound is a higher level than you have ever faced before. The trick to quickly dealing with it is to spam the Igni Sign in its face - Igni REALLY hurts this thing!

Once you have killed it, take the trophy and then collect your reward! That completes the Contract.

Objectives

  • Ask Holofernes Meiersdorf about the contact in the Apiarian Phantom

  • Follow the halfling

  • Examine the area in search of clues using your Witcher Senses

  • Follow the footprints using your Witcher Sense

  • Open the basement

  • Kill the Wild Hunt Hound

  • Take the trophy

  • Collect your reward from Holofernes Meiersdorf

The Creature from Oxenfurst Forest

Kill the Monster

Flagged from the Oxenfurt Notice Board -- Suggested Level: 35

Mercenaries are usually the ones getting paid for killing things.. This time, however, the show was on the other foot: a certain Hans ofCidaris, a soldier of fortune by trade, had made it known far and wide that he would pay a handsome sum to whoever could defeat the beast that had made its nest in the forest outside Oxenfurt. Geralt decided to take the job.

After you meet with the mercenary captain and learn what he knows,

After examining the site and all the clues you track your way to the Griffin Nest - and vow to return after dark and deal with the bugger!

After you kill it collect a trophy and then your reward, and that wraps up this Contract!

Objectives

  • Talk about the contract with the mercenary, Hans.

  • Examine where the monster attacked using your Witcher Senses

  • Follow the blood trail using your Witcher Senses

  • Follow the ravens using your Witcher Senses

  • Return after dark when the griffin is in its nest

  • Kill the Griffin

  • Take a trophy from the griffin

  • Collect your reward

Deadly Delights

Deal with the guard's problem

Flagged from a Novigrad Notice Board - Suggested Level: 15

Geralt spied something on the city Notice Board that intrigued him. It seemed keeping the peace in Novigrad was not the city guard's only problem.

After you chat up the guard, and he tells you what happened then points you at the medic. That mask he is wearing? That was actually a real thing back in the day...

The medic tells you what he can, and then you head off to examine the spot where the bodies were found. At the scene you eliminate most of the tracks to find the ones you need to follow.and follow them to Crippled Kates.

Talk to the brothel owner then examine the broken perfume bottle outside, and follow the scent, which leads you to a victim who is still alive. He tells you his story then you have to find a way into the house. The door is locked, as is the back door - but the door to the place next door is not.

Accessing that house allows you to make your way up to the upper floor and across a scaffold to the open window of the house you want to get into! Excellent! Now you just need to confront the Succubus!

You do not actually have to kill her - you can order her out of the city, in which case she will give you items to use as proof. So kill her or do not kill her, either way go collect your reward! That completes the quest.

Doors Slamming Shut

Kill the monster

Flagged from a Novigrad Notice Board - Suggested Level: 24

Sprawling out-of-town manors always hide their fair share of mysteries, and the residence on Novigrad's outskirts were no exception. When Geralt found out about a haunted manor owned by a certain Kurt Dysart, he agreed at once to look into the matter.

You find the Count in the balcony of the bar, and chat him up... He tells you the story of the haunted estate that he bought and what he hopes you can do - then gives you a key. You can Fast Travel to the estate - which is the Moldavie Residence in the northeast countryside.

In the basement you detect air flowing through a wall and blast open access to a cave that leads to the Elven ruins that the manse was built on top of. Three are more clues to be found there.

Based on the clues Geralt concludes that the monster is an earth elemental... And so it is time to kill it! Swim over to the far side of the chamber and use the lever to open the passage, then swim back, climb out, and make your way to the next chamber where you will the elemental trapped in a magic barrier.

to lower the barrier blast the crystal in the back of the chamber that is powering it - that will overload it and lower the barrier. Then you just need to kill it!

I found that the easy way to kill it was to keep my shield cast and then hit it four or five times - it hits me and collapses my shield so no damage to me - I then dodge away and Shield is ready to cast again! Rinse and repeat and it dies pretty easy.

After you take the trophy head back and collect your reward, and that completes the contract.

Completing this contract unlocks the Achievement: Ashes to Ashes (15g) Complete the contract on Therazane.

  • Talk to Kurt Dysart

  • Travel to the haunted mansion

  • Investigate hte haunted mansion using your Witcher Senses

  • Investigate the basement using your Withcer Senses

  • Read the diary from the ruined house

  • Find the earth elemental

  • Deactivate the magic barrier

  • Kill the earth elemental

  • Take a trophy from the earth elemental

  • Collect your reward

Lord of the Wood

Kill the monster

Flagged from a Novigrad Notice Board - Suggested Level: 25

A certain halfling named Brean Hotsch had hung a Notice stating he was in need of a professional monster slayer. Geralt decided to see what was the natter.

Head to the Cunny of the Goose Inn and talk to the Contract Giver - he will fill you in on the unlikely details and then you can negotiate a better fee. Once you have though it is time to talk to the witness.

Talk to the lumberjack - his is in the Inn too - before you head looking for the hut. You may need to change the quest marker to reflect that to see where he is.

A word here - Igni works VERY well against this monster. Very well indeed as long as you wait until it fully forms BEFORE you cast it.

Once it is dead, take your trophy then head back to collect your reward and complete the contract!

Objectives

  • Talk to Brean Hotsch

  • Talk to witnesses
  • Find the woodcutter's hut where Hotsch is staying

  • Find the site of the attack using your Witcher Senses

  • Use your Witcher Senses to follow the wagon tracks to where the monster attacked

  • Investigate the site of the monster's attack

  • Use your Witcher Senses to follow the sounds and find the leshen's totem

  • Destroy the totem

  • Take the Trophy

  • Collect your reward

The Oxenfurt Drunk

Deal with the murderer

Flagged from the Oxenfurt Notice Board - Suggested Level: 26

Oxenfurt academy may be my alma mater, but Oxenfurt town - that is where I received my true education. The experiences I had in its inns and alleyways often left me a trembling wreck, overwhelmed by the majesty of the world opening up before me.

Sadly, during the Third Nilfgaardian War the town became a shadow of its former self, and the few who remained in its inns and alleyways risked not enlightenment but death at the hands of a mysterious murderer. Geralt, bless his heart, decided to investigate the matter, suspecting that the responsible party might be a monster...

Talking to the guard confirms the contract and gives you a small amount of information as well as paths on who to talk to next.

When you talk to the woman who witnessed her attack she ends up being a drunk... Use your Sign on her to get her to talk without getting drunk and you learn what she has to say.

Follow up with the medic then examine the victims. Then the scene, and finally get yourself rip-roaring drunk so you can battle, track, then kill the vampire!

After that it is a matter of showing off the trophy and Collecting your reward to complete the quest.

Objectives

  • Talk to the Redarian Officer

  • Talk to the Medic

  • Talk to the Witness

  • Examine the site where the monster was seen using your Witcher Senses

  • Talk to the Innkeep and get drunk in order to bait the katakan

  • Walk around near the tavern in order to provoke the katakan

  • Track down the katakan using your Witcher Senses

  • Get inside the katakan's hideout

  • Kill the katakan

  • Take a trophy

  • Collect your reward from the Redarian officer

The White Lady

Kill the monster

Flagged from a Novigrad Notice Board - Suggested Level: 16

While in Novigrad, Geralt came across a nookie offering a bounty for killing a certain White Lady haunting the fields outside the city. The Witcher, who was always in need of coin for... what does he spend his coin on? Armor? Swords? Clips to hold back his hair? At any rate, he was forever short of it, and so accepted the contract.

Note: If you are doing the Cat Gear Treasure Hunt you will go to the Castle - and update this quest. If not, go to the Castle ruins and climb to the top to examine the clue, which updates the quest.

The blood trail will lead to the cellar and a body. After you investigate those, check the tracks outside and then follow them. They lead you to a party that was attacked and, after you examine the clues, you head back to talk tot he widow and obtain the Silver Dagger.

Now you take the Dagger to the fire and toss it in in order to lure Luzi out - and then you kill her!

Remember you can only damage a noonwraith if it is inside your Trap Sign - so cast that and attack then roll away. When she spawns her life-sucking triplets kill them quickly to avoid her recharging from your Vitality, rinse and repeat until she is dead..

That updates the quest, and you need to go collect your reward.

Objectives

  • Talk to the widow.

  • Investigate the ruined tower using your Witcher Senses

  • Follow the tracks using yoru Witcher Senses

  • Talk to the widow about the noonwraith

  • Throw the Silver Dagger into the fire to lure the noonwraith out.

  • Collect your reward from the widow
