This is a reference section to cover the Main Missions in case you need to check on the requirements for each. You can also find this information in the game, as you complete each mission, but if you want to look ahead at the requirements this is where you would do that...

Prologue Missions

The following are flagged or encountered as part of the Prologue...

Kaer Morhen

Every story has to start somewhere. This one starts in the guest room at Kaer Morhen, the stronghold of the Witchers in the Blue Mountains.

It starts with Geralt taking a bath, disproving the theory that Witchers neglect personal hygiene. But as he's bathing, he is brusquely interrupted by Yennefer - does she ever interrupt in any other way?

She reminds him that he was supposed to train with Ciri. What could our hero do but bid the sorceress farewell and descend into the courtyard of the fortress. Little did he know this would mark the start of a great adventure.

As it turned out, all that happened at Kaer Morhen was but a dream... The kind that wakes even Witchers screaming, a cold sweat on their brow. Geralt crouched by the fire and surveyed the land, a land ravaged by war, signs of battle stretching to the horizon. But he had not chosen this campsite for its view - Yennefer's trail had brought him there....

Lilacs and Gooseberries

Yennefer had contacted Geralt - finally. They had not seen each other in years. And then she'd sent him a letter smelling of lilac and gooseberries, of course, asking him to meet her in the village of Willoughby, "About a matter of great importance," she had written.

So as was his wont when it came to all things Yennefer, the Witcher raced off at breakneck speed. Alas, he arrived too late.

Passing armies had raised Willoughby to the ground. Yennefer was nowhere in sight. With the help of Vesemir, whom Geralt had encountered along the way, Geralt picked up her trail, which the two Witchers then followed.

Yen had ridden north, traversing wild lands and battlefields at great speed. She was in a hurry. Perhaps she was in trouble...

Objectives

  • Follow Vesemir

  • Kill the Ghouls

  • Go to the Tavern in White Orchard

  • Ask travelers about Yennefer

  • Ask the Nilfgaardians about Yennefer

  • Complete the Griffin Contract

Prepare to leave White Orchard with Vesemir

The Beast of White Orchard

Kill the Griffin that is terrorizing the area.

Flagged by the Fort Commander when you visit the Nilfgaardian encampment to ask about Yen...

The commander of the Nilfgaardian garrison in White Orchard knew where Yennefer had gone. Shrewdly, he was unwilling to share this information for free. A man with substantial experience, he knew full well that Geralt would do anything to find the sorceress.

As luck would have it, there is a Griffin about, a beast the commander's soldiers had been unable to hunt down. The commander could demand but one thing: the monsters head in exchange for his help.

Talk to the Herbalist to inquire about the wounded woman and learn what details she has to offer... Talking to her will flag the Quest: On Death's bed as well.

When you arrive at the Hunter's House you will find he is not there. You then are prompted to use your Witcher Sense to find him. Just follow the red tracks and you find him - to chat!

After you chat with him he convinces you to help him to kill the pack of Wild Dogs - so do that!

After the dogs are dead talk to the Hunter again and you learn that the latest victim was one of his mates. Sad...

True to his word the Hunter takes you to where he found the soldiers and then describes the scene to you - so after the conversation ends examine the site with your Senses...

A full examination of the camp reveals the details - and tracks for you to follow! So follow them!

When you reach the site you examine more clues - and learn that the griffin you are hunting is probably a male and the mate to the dead female at the abandoned nest!

After exhausting the clues that are available here, you decide that you need to talk to Vesemir - so head bacl to the Inn and do so. This is also a good time for you to get your Kit repaired, and make any potions and such. Basic get-ready work.

To put this in perspective for you, through looting and having the Smith dismantle some items instead of buy them, I managed to obtain all of the required resources to make the Level 3 Kaedweni Gambeson! That has an Armor Level of 43(!) and increased stats for piercing, bludgeoning, and slashing resistance - which is basically most of what a griffin will do!

When you talk to Vesemir you have the option of discussing an event that actually took place in the previous game - and why not? After that tell him about the griffin contract - you exchange information and brief him on the male griffin and he tells you he is ready to go!

Vesemir has picked out a spot to trap the griffin - so you need to brew the Thunderbolt Potion and then meet him there! If you lack some ingredients (you should not) go to the Herbalist to get them.

Talk to Vesemir when you arrive and tell him that you can start - then you can spread the bait!

If you have trouble with this battle bear in mind that hitting it with the Igni Sign will help a LOT. And you can use the Potions you made.

Once you complete looting the griffin you need to go to the fort and collect your reward...

When you arrive you trigger a CS in which you see the commander dealing with that farmer - then you have a chat and the quest is completed. So well done... But why does it feel like we got a raw deal?

Objectives

  • Ask the hunter where he found the bodies.

  • Use your Witcher Sense to find the Hunter

  • Examine the site of the Nilfgaardian solder's death using your Witcher Senses

  • Follow the Nilfgaardian soldier's tracks using your Witcher Senses

Act I: Vizima Missions

To make this guide easier to use we break each of the Acts up into their logical components, with the main missions divided as makes sense for that purpose. The following are the missions for the main story that take place during the period in which you are based in Vizima...

Imperial Audience

Geralt had spent years looking for Yennefer, only to have her find him. She had appeared outside the Inn in White Orchard, escorted by Nilfgaardian soldiers. The one-time lovers could not enjoy their reunion, for the sorceress insisted that they make haste.

Geralt and Yennefer had then left White Orchard accompanies by Nilfgaardians, but only the Witcher and sorceress reached Vizima. Along the way their column was attacked by a cavalcade of wraiths: the moen of war - the Wild Hunt.

Geralt's head was abuzz with questions. What had Yen gotten into? How had THe Hunt found them? Why was it looking for them? Why had he been summoned to Vizima?

He was to get his answers from none other than the Emperor of Nilfgaard himself, Emhyr var Emreis, the White Flame Dancing on the Graves of his Foes. The most powerful man in the known world.

Objectives

  • Get dressed and talk to the Chamberlain

  • Follow the Chamberlain

  • Talk with Yen

  • Talk with the Ambassador

  • Return to the Chamberlain and get your Kit.

Mission: In Ciri's Footsteps

Emhyr var Emeries had been searching for his daughter Ciri for quite some time. Even the most dubious sighting of an ashen-haired young woman with a scar on her cheek would send imperial spies scurrying.

Not even the harsh conditions of war-ravaged Velen deterred them - indeed, it is thre they had been most successful, determining that Ciri had been, and possibly still was, in the region. Reports of a similar nature has also come in from Novigrad, but remained unconfirmed.

Emhyr's spooks had gathered nothing concrete from Skellige, but an explosion of magical energy had taken place on one of the isles, and it seemed likely that Ciri had been somehow involved.
