During your turn, you can use your Persona’s skills by pressing the triangle button. Usually, elemental skills require SP while physical skills consume a bit of HP instead. The effectiveness of these skills will also depend on the persona’s stats using the skill. With your ability to create and switch personas, you should consider using physical attack skills if the persona you have equipped has high ST and elemental attacks for those with high MA stats. Using the right skill and attack to exploit enemy weaknesses play a significant part P5’s combat.
Changing Personas
With your capacity to carry several different personas at once gives you access to a large variety of skills. You can freely switch your currently equipped persona to another once per turn. Once switched, your stats, elemental affinities, and available skills will match the newly equipped persona.
Using this option usually is a tactical choice since you should consider switching personas not only for their available skills but their elemental affinities as well. A general rule of thumb is avoid equipping a persona with weaknesses against your opponents’ attacks.
To switch personas during a battle, access the Persona menu then cycle between your available persona by pressing the R1 and L1 buttons. Outside of battle, you can simply access the main menu and select the Persona option to equip a different persona.
Skill Selection Assistance
If you manage to attack an enemy’s weakness, you can press the R1 button during the battle to automatically move the cursor to that option. This will save you time if you already know the enemy’s weakness.
