Enemy Guide

Enemy Guide

Having all these weapons and spells is great, but pretty useless if you don't have anything to use them on. Luckily, KH has plenty of critters with which to sharpen your skills.

Enemies come in many shapes and sizes, but only one form: Heartless. The Heartless are born when a persons heart is completely swallowed by darkness. The stronger the heart, the more powerful the heartless.

However, there are two categories of Heartless: Pure and Emblem. Pure Heartless have existed since time began, I guess. They are born through the natural process of someone loosing their heart. Emblem Heartless were created by Ansem in his laboratory after extensive research into the Pure Heartless. To differentiate between the two, Ansem branded his Heartless with a black-and-red heart-shaped emblem, hence the name.

There are many more varieties of Emblem Heartless then of Pure because Emblems can exist in the world of light with no problems, while Pures cant come out of the darkness for very long.

To effectively fight Heartless of either type, one must use either the Keyblade or Magic. While it is said many times in the game that the Keyblade is the only weapon that can harm the Heartless, this doesn't seem completely true, as every body and their cousin seems to be able to kill Heartless with any weapon they want... except when the game suddenly decides they cant and you have to save them.

Anyway, I'll put down everything I know about each individual Heartless below, including stats (Action Replay Debug Mode FTW!). To make this section flow nicely, I'll have to use some abbreviations and generalizations, which are spelled out once below:

    HP    ATK   DEF   MPr   EXP
BR:
AR:

HP: Hit points. 300 HP = 1 bar.
ATK: Attack power. Subtract from your defense.
DEF: Defense. Subtract this from your ATK power.
MPr: Magic Power recovery. How much MP you'll recover for every hit you
land on this enemy. It's in some weirdly high numbers. I'm not
sure how to factor them back down to Charge Gauge units.
EXP: Experience Points. EXP you get for defeating them.

BR: Before Rescue. Before you rescue Kairi from Hollow Bastion.
AR: After Rescue. After you rescue Kairi from Hollow Bastion.

Resistance:
This is their magic resistance. Factor this into your equation from the Magic section. (Figure out your attack, then multiply that number by the number listed in the Resistance section).

Found:
In case you really need to track down an enemy, I'll try to list one or two good places to find them; however, most enemies can be found on most every world (except Atlantica), and the ones that are particularly easy to find (like Shadows) I'll even say so.

Aquatanks themselves aren't a threat. More of a nuisance that will charge in from your blind spot. More so you should be worried about the Screwdivers they launch. They are basically the same, but faster and harder to hit. Aquatanks are large targets that are hard to miss, but they can move fast when they want to so stay sharp. They can also take a lot of abuse, so keep the pressure on.

They use their sword very effectively. They like This one attack where they jump up and cartwheel toward you with their sword out. It happens very fast and is hard to block. The Battleship is actually made up of four parts: Hull, Mast, Cannons x2. Destroying the Hull destroys the ship, destroying the Mast doesn't seem to do anything, and destroying the cannons prevents it from firing rocket barrages. The cannons are used more like mortars to rain down meteor-like fire. Its only other attack is to ram you with the front of the ship. You'll have to use long aerial combos to defeat it.

That one that appears in Hollow Bastion is the same, but the one in End of the world is a blue-colored Arch Behemoth and the one in the Coliseum is a flame-yellow-and-red Destroyer Behemoth. The are EXACLTY the same as a regular Behemoth, just different colored. It's only weakpoint is its horn. You have to use their legs as steps to get up on their back and attack the horn. It's attacks aren't very many, and mostly consist of stomping the ground or firing lasers out its horn.

They like to just mess with you. They never really attack per-se, but they will use a slingshot to hit you from a distance for minimal damage. Their only other attack is the banana peels they throw around the field. If you or your party steps on one, they slip and fall and you loose some Munny as it falls on the ground. Very clichéd, very evil. Their main thing is their speed; they can zip around extremely fast.

Defenders can be seen as the successful member of this family. Whereas the Fat Bandit and Large Body sat at home all day, he went into the military and made something of himself. Defenders can use base level magic that includes shooting fire balls (their shield turns red) or casting a hazy mist attack (shield turns blue). Besides that the only thing it can do is thrust his shield forward or spin around real fast. They don't move much and aren't as protective of their backside as the rest of the family, though they should be.

These are every bit as annoying as the Large Body. Their stomachs are invulnerable to attack and the only weak spot is an even-smaller portion of their back. You have to circle strife them at first and wait from them to pause following you. As you level up, you can more easily jump over them or just hit them with a powerful Blizzard for some tech points (if you hit them just as they exhale the fire). Watch for them to tilt back and inhale, as this means they'll quickly turn and face you, then exhale a flamethrower. If they start spitting out fireballs, you can deflect them back to daze them.

These are probably the most deadly Heartless in the game. If they spin around, they'll launch out dark energy balls in all directions. When the ring starts to spin, dodgeroll to escape before it slams shut.

Their only vulnerable part is their back, and sometimes their head. The trick is getting behind them, as they are very protective of their backside. Best thing is to wait form them to slap their belly, as that means their about to rush forward. When they do, block it. It'll daze them and allow you to get behind them. Watch out if they jump into the air, as when they land a shockwave will go out. Once their health is below half, they get more powerful and a lot faster by calling out the darkness or something. Now you'll almost have to rely on blocks to beat them.

Breakdown:
Shadow are your basic Heartless. They don't do anything but slap you. The only thing that makes them an enemy at all is their ability to literally turn into a shadow and walk under the ground, and reemerge behind you.

Breakdown:
Much like the Sea Neon only bigger. Its only attack is a ramming attack where they kind of lunge at you. The thing with these is that sometimes when they are defeated they'll melt and turn into three separate Sea Neons.

Breakdown:
Soldiers are another base Heartless, but they kind of die off later in the game. They like running around in circles and pretending to be Chuck Norris by doing this flying roundhouse kick. It's fairly easy to block, so don't worry.

Wight Knights will only normally attack from behind. In the middle of one of your combos, they'll just randomly jump up, land behind you, and do this X shaped slashing attack with their arms. There's not much you can do about it either.

Related to:
- Emblem Heartless
- Red Nocturne
- Blue Rhapsody
- Green Requiem
- Yellow Opera

Breakdown:
These are like facing all the other types except Green Requiem combined, plus Gravity which manifests itself as a portal in the ground that suddenly gushes energy. They really aren't that big a threat on a account of their accuracy being terrible, but they are hard to hit and if the magic does hit you it can do some damage. It's two main forms of defense and generally adding time to your game clock is that they can not only randomly teleport anywhere on the field, but they are totally invulnerable (unless your keyblade is hard to deflect) when using Thunder, an attack they happen to spam. When they appear, you will want to deal with them first, as they can become quite the nuisance.

Related to:
- Emblem Heartless

Breakdown:
Not really a hard enemy along, but lets face it, you never face any enemy alone in this game. Their attack of dive-bombing you is pretty effective if you cant focus on the shadow, but they often either don't aim for Sora or don't aim for anything at all, as they often miss completely. Overall you just have to wait for them to come down just for a second to get a couple good hits in.

--== Yellow Opera ==--

Stats:
    HP    ATK   DEF   MPr   EXP

Related to:
- Emblem Heartless
- Red Nocturne
- Blue Rhapsody
- Green Requiem
- Wizard

Breakdown:
Opera: a theatrical work combining drama, music, song and sometimes dance. This probably refers to the lightning attack itself, as it changes the scene to that of a thunder cloud. Yellow Operas are the fastest of this kind of Heartless. This is evident in their darting around the field so fast it's almost impossible to get a good hit in. Their thunder attack isn't much to worry about, but simply killing them can be a pain.

Yes, although you are right in how he doesn't have all of the Heartless listed, at least he has a good amount to help anyone find what they need.

@ Dark_Dryad17:
Here's the link for the Mushroom Guide (http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/516587-kingdom-hearts/faqs/16824), and I don't recall any Shadow Bats in Kingdom Hearts...was that in the Final Mix?

You are leaving out a few things.
One, the Mushroom Guide.
Two, the Shadow Bats (even if jiminy didn't write anything about them, THEYRE THERE. I think they're pure)
