Farm Animal Cap Gets a Boost!!

30 July 2013 - The Interwebs - When you are facing hard limits on animal population in the world of FarmVille you often find yourself making some tough decisions - and the recent Introduction of the Goat Nursery and the ability to custom name the Goats that are raised therein has only added to the potential pain of that decision-making process.

After all deciding who gets booted out of the paradise that is your farm and who stays can be a difficult choice to make when you now have three new goats named Winkin, Blinkin, and Ted, right? I mean you named the buggers! That makes them almost family! And then there is that Teddybear Sheep you paid good Farm Bucks for, you cannot sell her off, can you?! Of course not!

So what do you do when you are confronted by the need to eliminate animals in order to make room for new ones so that the resource train continues to chug? Well in the past the wizards at Zynga suggested adding buildings and objects that boosted your Farm Animal Cap, but once you actually hit the hard cap that is no longer an option...

They then pointed out that, at least in the case of Prized Animals, you can always place them in your Storage Bin (at least temporarily) - a workable solution when you have Prized Animals that lack a Prized Animal Structure, the rationale being that you are only "temporarily" putting them on ice until you can place them in their new digs (once that is released). That nicely got us through the Sheep Scrum Crisis of 2012 and the Pig Panic of 2013, but a lack of intel on what is increasingly being blown up as the Horse Havoc of Summer leaves most farmers wondering just how to define the word "temporary"?

Recognizing that there is a problem is the first logical step in addressing it, and the Wizards at Zynga have trotted out their wands and taken steps to learn the spell to increase the Farm Animal Cap - they must have learned a thing or two from Hermione Granger and her wondrous Bag of Holding - and while that was not their first choice it strikes us as a good one!

When a farmer begins to play the game and their new farm is created they start with a farm animal capacity limit of 10 animals, and are almost immediately provided the opportunity to increase that with the placement of the first Water Trough, which adjusts their cap to 15 Farm Animals.

Once the issue of hitting the cap first appears in the game players are encouraged to make use of special structures that in addition to serving other symbolic purposes also add to the cap total, with their basic options including:[br /]

  • Water Trough I: +5 Animals (Free) Obtained from the Milk Meadow Expansion.

  • Water Trough II: +5 Animals (5K Farm Coins) Requires Farm Level 3.

  • Water Trough III: +5 Animals (20K Farm Coins) Requires Level 12.

  • Water Trough IV: +5 Animals (28K Farm Coins) Requires Level 21.

  • Water Trough V: +5 Animals (45 Farm Bucks) Requires spending Farm Bucks.

  • Shady Trough: +10 Animals (10K Farm Coins) Requires placement and building.

While technically the Prized Animal structures do not constitute an addition to the overall Farm Animal Cap, the fact that any Prized Animals housed within the respective structures are both removed from the Farm Animal Count and still apply as in-game resources, the following should be included in any estimates of Farm Animal capacity:

While unofficial the Prized Structures increase the Farm Animal Cap by an additional +69 Prized Animals, for a theoretical total of 114 Farm Animals.

The New and Improved Shady Trough!

Farmers who logged into the game on Tuesday, 30 July expecting to see a new quest or mission were instead treated to a pop-up that offers much desired relief to the animal cap issues that have impacted the game increasingly over the past few months.

The pop-up announces "Add more animals to your Farm!" and encourages the player to click the Upgrade button to begin the process of improving their existing Shady Trough by +5 animals!

Following the instructions on-screen causes your Shady Trough to be highlighted and prompts you to upgrade it - and when you do clicking upon it a second time reveals the necessary steps to complete that upgrade, which are:

  • x07 Wood Stain (Feed Post)

  • x10 Tin Buckets (Direct Appeal)

  • x10 Utility Hooks (Direct Appeal)

For the Feed Post item you simply click on the button marked "Post" and then wait for your mates to see the notice on your FB Feed and send you some Wood Stain, while for the Direct Appeal Items you need to make the requests to specific mates you designate by clicking their names from the pop-up list.

Soon as you have collected all of the required resources, just like the usual mission or quest mechanism, you are prompted to ask three of your mates to assist you in the final construction of your new and improved Deluxe Shady Trough,

A Bonus Mission to Celebrate the Improved Shady Trough!

In addition to the above quest to expand your Shady Trough the Tuesday update also features a new mission and quest line called Fire Away! that entails an adventure in forming a volunteer fire company for your farm and neighborhood...

The 8-Quest Mission includes theme-appropriate Actions and will quickly provide you with some XP and other rewards and how cool is that?

The only fly in the ointment? The faithful undercore of vocal farmers online had been hoping that the Tuesday Update this week would be focused on the new Prized Horse Barn - but hey, a boost to the Animal Cap is certainly almost as good, right?
