In addition to regular attacks you can turn into Z Moves, Z Crystals also work on non-damaging, status moves. When you use the power of a Z Crystal on a Status Move, it becomes a Z Status Move. When you use Z Status Moves, the regular effects of the Status Move will occur while raising certain stats accordingly. Not only will the Status Move do what it usually does, but your Pokemon (most of the time) will get stronger with the help of the Z Crystal! However, do note that Z Status Moves still indeed count for the one Z Move you are allowed to use per battle (unless your have Rotom Power).
