About the versions

FE Fates has three versions, Birthright, Conquest, and Revelation. Each version is focused on the Hoshido, Nohr, and Neutral storylines respectively. Birthright and Conquest are sold separately as individual physical titles while Revelations is a Downloadable Content only.

Since Birthright and Conquest are considered as two different games, unlike Pokemon where two simultaneous release titles have mostly identical gameply except for some minor differences. Each has their own unique story, their own unique "style". While the core gameplay remains the same, each release can be considered an entirely different experience.

For those who bought Birthright and Conquest as separate titles, the third version, Revelations will be released on March 10. The game saves between the two carts will be not interchangeable. Also, do not buy them at the same time. It's better to buy one of them then play it until you reach the point where you can buy the other version via in-game menu. This will allow you to get the second version at 50% off. That will allow you to get both versions for around $60. Revelations is prized at around $20, giving you a total cost of getting all versions for $80 instead of $100

Special Edition

The Special Edition of the game has all three versions in a single cart, an artbook, and carrying pouch. If you consider the freebies (artbook and pouch), this is the best bang for the buck. Having all versions in a single cart is very convenient and you get to finish the game without waiting for the DLC release. Since this version is distributed in very limited quantities, chances are you won't find this anymore unless sold aftermarket.
