Spoiler: Permadeath Event

There's an event-induced permanent character death that will occur in this chapter.

Spoiler:

Kaze will die protecting the avatar unless his support level is at least A-rank, the event when Kaze pledges himself as the avatar's retainer. Take note that even if you married Kaze to another female character, you won't be able to unlock his daughter's paralogue mission if he dies after this mission. The best choice of course is to grind your support levels with him by taking on various challenge quests before starting this mission.

You'll be facing a new tribe in this mission. Similar to kitsunes, they can use beastones to transform into wolves. There are scattered forts in the area that you can use to your advantage. The dragon veins can also cause rains to temporarily drop the enemies' stats. Avoid fighting them on the main road since the surrounding mountain terrains will give your enemies the terrain advantage. As usual, your fliers can easily navigate the area and take advantage of their mobility to draw enemies to engagements favorable to you. Take note that the enemies can traverse the mountain terrain while your normal ground units won't be able to.

The enemy near the first fort and dragon vein carries a Master Seal. However, it has a dangerous Counter skill so make sure to attack it with ranged weapons. One of the enemies in the woods to the southwest carries another Master Seal. The enemy halfway up the mountain on the first curve carries a Beastrune, enabling your shapeshifters to take on a tougher form. Start off by activating the dragon vein. The rain greatly lowers all their stats for five turns; otherwise, they'll be quite dangerous as it is. Ranged attacks is a great way of avoiding direct Combat and an effective means of keeping your units' HP up.

At around turn 7, enemy reinforcements will appear and will occupy the middle-west forts. Don't engage them while they're on that terrain unless you can one-shot kill them. The last dragon vein is located to the NE corner of the map so use that if necessary. Save it when your army is ready to deal with the boss. Keaton has bonus damage against fliers so don't use them to attack him unless you have the initiative. Remember, you can lure the enemies by stepping in their attack range. That way, you don't have to fight them on the gates where there's a considerable terrain advantage.

Once done, a scene will trigger. This is the moment where you'll either lose Kaze permanently or not. Once you're back in your castle, Jakob or Felicia will arrive and join your group depending on which of them joined your party first. (Female avatars will start off with Jakob while male avatars will have Felicia as one of their starting members)
