You have to visit the Vim! Pop Factory's Factory Area. As soon as you enter the factory, the quest “The Way Life Should Be” will be activated. Head to the mixing vats section of the factory. This is the same area where you can recover the pump regulator for the quest “Ablutions”. In the ground level, there's a security door to the NW corner. Hack the terminal to open the security door then ride the elevator down.

Dig up the unmarked grave then play the holotape. You can also take Avery's locket and skull. Once done, you'll have several options: confront DiMA about Avery's murder, tell Far Harbor about the murder, or optionally, report back to Kasumi about it. If you haven't looted the area yet, the actual clinic behind the security door has a unique weapon called December's Child and an industrial loot trunk.

These options will have major and permanent effects in the game so consider your options carefully:

Confront DiMA

Return to Acada and confront DiMA about your findings. He’ll remember this specific memory he stored away and will feel guilty about the crime. However, DiMA will request to hide the truth from the denizens of Far Harbor to the point that they’ll raze Acadia to the ground and kill even the innocent refugee synths living there. If the player agrees to conceal the truth, the quest is completed and the new quest “Reformation” begins. Optionally, the player can also convince DiMA to turn himself in to Far Harbor to answer for his crime.

If DiMA was convinced to turn himself in to Far Harbor, the hot-headed harborman Allen Lee will incite the town to burn Acadia to the ground. You can shut him up or convince the townspeople that Acadia is innocent. If you helped the people of this town through several sidequests, you’ll have the chance to talk them down and prevent Acadia’s destruction. If you’re successful in talking them down, only DiMA will be killed and Acadia will be left alone. Otherwise, DiMA will be executed, Brooks will be killed, and everyone in Acadia (including Kasumi) will be executed. If that happens, you can no longer bring her back home to her worried parents and you won’t be able to get the bonus rewards for the main quest “Close to Home”.

(Optional: Report back to Kasumi)

Kasumi will be undoubtedly be shocked by the truth. She’ll decide to see everything through the end. You’ll receive 3 stimpaks and 3 stealth boys from her by telling her DiMA’s secret. However, if you chose the “Acadia will burn” speech option, she’ll get furious and will refuse to talk to you anymore.

Inform Far Harbor

Upon returning to the town, look for Allen Lee and give him the original Avery’s skull and locket. Lee will then instruct the player to talk to the resident physician, Teddy Wright to check if the skull is indeed Avery’s. Upon close examination, Teddy will give confirmation and will leave the decision to the player on what to do next. He will cautiously warn about telling the results back to Lee. If the player relays the confirmation to Lee, he will assemble a mob of townspeople and march towards Acadia to destroy it. You can still talk them down about it. If you decide to stay out of it, the mob will still move towards Acadia regardless.

Another option is to bring the skull to the synth Avery. She’ll plead to keep the secret hidden and not tell Allen the truth to preserve peace and order. The player can extort Avery in exchange for keeping silent or the player can just simply fulfill her request.

In any instance when the player prevents Far Harbor from attacking Acadia, there will be no more way to save the synth refuge. You can join the attack or watch it burn to the ground. The quest will be completed afterward.
