Equipment patches are mods that add extra effects to your protective gears. Beneficial effects usually range from increasing damage inflicted by a certain element or status ailment, increased amount of HP/PP recovered, various means of HP and PP Recovery, and many more.
The default equipment patch slot for gloves, headgears, armor or clothing is one but you can find some that has two slots. Every class in the game can wear any equipment; however, some equipment tend to give more benefits when worn by a specific class.
For example, the Witch costume set will help Mages exploit their Dragon Breath and Pyre Ball abilities. This is a multi-hit fire attack that causes Burning and melts away armor of those hit. The Witch Hat allows you to restore 1PP when you deal Fire Damage. The Witch Robes reduces damage taken from a fire source by 10% and heals 5% of your HP you deal fire damage. Lastly, the Witch Gloves increases your Fire Damage by 20%. Dragon Breath hits six times to a target which will enable you to recover considerable amount of HP, PP with increased fire damage by its default settings. With the help of equipment patches such as Burning Skull Patch (Gain 5PP when you deal fire damage), Superhero Patch (Abilities do 20% more damage) and Ghost Pepper (Increase fire damage by 25%), you'll have a character that can pull off powerful Pyre Ball attacks and Dragon Breath as many times as you like without using PP recovery items!
Another example would be for fighters. Their Stomp ability and some melee weapons can deal more damage based on the armor rating. Armored Strike is also a equipment property that increases weapon damage times X of your armor rating.
