This tool’s main purpose is to break an enemy’s shield, including the straw hats used by the pesky “rats”. (the dangerous, small, green goblin-like enemies) When used against stronger enemies, this tool deals heavy posture damage.
Swinging the tool is somewhat slow but at least you can’t get interrupted when you’re in the middle of the swing animation. However, you can still take damage. Learning the martial arts that allow you to make follow up attacks after using this tool will greatly increase your offensive prowess against certain enemies.
In Hirata Estate, (from the Estate Path sculptor’s idol as your starting point), follow the main path (you can take the path behind the walls) until you reach the first gate.
Go past the first gate and grapple to the roof of a walled yard to the right. There should be a couple of enemies that you can eavesdrop. They’re standing in front of a small shrine.
Perform an aerial deathblow on one of them then quickly take out the other. There’s another enemy inside the house so deal with him as well. Once the area’s clear, open the shrine then pick up the Shinobi Axe of the Monkey. Bring this to the sculptor to craft it as a shinobi tool.
You’ll access to the prosthetic tool upgrade menu after defeating Gyoubu Oniwa and getting the Mechanical Barrel he drops. Talk to the Sculptor and give him the barrel to unlock the menu.
Similar to skills, there are also upgraded versions of prosthetic tools that will require pre-requisite upgrades before you can unlock them. Each upgrade will require upgrade materials; higher tier upgrades requiring uncommon or rarer materials. Take note that you can still use the older versions of the tools should you wish to.
