What does this tool do?
This tool allows you to perform melee attacks at extended range. Lighter enemies can be pulled towards you while crude armor from some enemies can be torn off. Having access to martial art skills that allow follow-up attacks after using this tool is essential for maximizing your damage potential. Upgraded iterations will allow you to even deal vitality and posture damage to guarding enemies.
Where to find it?
First, we need to secure a unique item called the Gatehouse Key. Let’s start off in Ashina Castle’s first Sculptor’s Idol (also called
Ashina Castle). Turn around and you should see an old woman praying near the edge of the bridge. In front of her is a branch you can grapple to.
Grapple to the branch then go straight to the gate. There are two enemies talking to each other there. Eavesdrop then carefully sneak behind the spearman and kill him. He’ll drop the
Gatehouse Key. Kill the other enemy then backtrack to the previous idol in Ashina Castle.
This is missable!
Don't forget to kill the spearman on the bridge leading to the Abandoned Dungeon Sculptor's Idol (beside the
Dungeon Memorial Mob) to obtain the Gatehouse Key. Make sure to get this key before moving too far in the story; later events will make this particular enemy relocate/perma-killed, making it impossible to obtain this prosthetic tool when that happens.
Go past the gate but don’t go upstairs. Instead, turn to the left to find a door past the remnant visions.
Drop down to the lower floor and pick up the
Pellet along the way. Open the large door that leads to the Ashina Reservoir to find another sculptor’s idol in front of you. Commune with it to unlock it for future use.
You can fight the initial enemies downstairs if you want; otherwise, you have to turn left and hang on the roof so you can jump to the branch ahead where you can grapple. From there, turn to the left to find the lookout. Kill him before he alerts the nearby enemies. If he manages to alert nearby enemies, deal with them first.
When clear, head to the gatehouse and open it using the key. This tool is located in a chest inside the gatehouse.
Upgraded Versions
You’ll access to the prosthetic tool upgrade menu after defeating
Gyoubu Oniwa and getting the Mechanical Barrel he drops. Talk to the Sculptor and give him the barrel to unlock the menu.
Similar to skills, there are also upgraded versions of prosthetic tools that will require prerequisite upgrades before you can unlock them. Each upgrade will require upgrade materials; higher tier upgrades requiring uncommon or rarer materials. Take note that you can still use the older versions of the tools should you wish to.
