After passing through the first large temple where the monks are praying (and where you’ll obtain a Gourd Seed in front of an undead monk they’re praying to), continue exploring until you reach a large broken bridge, guarded by enemies with straw hats. These are dangerous enemies that you can’t seem to stealth kill so you have to lure them away from the bridge and use your Grappling Hook to disengage. From the broken bridge, look to the left to find a cave entrance, with a branch that you can grapple to.
Enter the cave and climb up the ledge. Follow the tunnel to find the Shugendo Sculptor’s Idol at the end. From that checkpoint, look down to the left to find a wooden pathway that you can use your grapple hook on.
Grapple there then jump to the next wooden pathway while hugging the wall. Pick up the item along the way and you’ll reach the cliff where this merchant is staying.
