Brendan and May, the hero and heroine of the original Sapphire and Ruby titles, are back in Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Pokemon Omega Ruby. They both get an awesome makeover in the franchise's latest installment. Players can still choose to play either of them and change their names based on the player's preference.
Different versions through the years Leftmost: Ruby/Sapphire, Middle: Emerald, Right: Alpha Sapphire / Omega Ruby
There is no benefit or disadvantage from choosing one over the other. There will only be very minor alterations in dialogue but the overall story and progress remains virtually untouched. Th other main character you don't select will become your friendly rival and reliable ally in certain portions of the game. Whoever you choose, you'll surely appreciate having a trusted ally as you make your way on becoming a legend.
