The game has six tools that will help your warrior deal with various obstacles found in different scenarios. Four of these tools can be used as sub-weapons though they won't be that effective compared to your equipped weapon, unless powered up. These power-ups can be found like other normal Items would; inside jars, in patches of grass, dropped by fallen enemies, etc. Power ups temporary boosts the tool's damage and allows it to have special effects. Tools are part of the story so don't worry about missing any of them.
Bombs
This is the first tool you'll get, in the very first scenario of Legend Mode. This is primarily used to destroy boulders that are blocking the path, or to simply reveal hidden chests, and skulltulas. This is also used to destroy Beamos emplacements in enemy-held positions.
One press will make your character throw several bombs at once. Normal bombs can blow any enemy towards you (including smaller bosses like Cia), making it possible to juggle them in the air and land some free hits. You also need this against King Dodongo. Lob some bombs into its mouth when its charging up for an attack to stop it and reveal its weak point.
When upgraded, the bomb transforms into a single, gigantic bomb that deals heavy damage and has a very large blast radius. This upgrade is very effective in clearing hordes of enemies, including leader enemies, or even bosses.
Bow and Arrow
The bow and arrow can stun multiple enemies along its path though its damage isn't that great. It's primarily used to instantly destroy Deku Babas and exploit Gohma's weakpoint. The bow's upgrade version allows it to fire light-imbued arrows which split to multiple smaller arrows, hitting more enemies. The stun effect is also longer.
Boomerang
The Boomerang is used in cutting down the wall of Vines and knock down Manhandla's heads, revealing its weak point. Enemies hit by the boomerang are stunned longer, compared to the bow. Like before, don't expect that much damage from this tool. When upgraded, it leaves small whirlwinds on its wake.
Hookshot
The hookshot allows you pull yourself up to elevated ledges that has a unique emblem. These ledges usually contain valuables like chests and Skulltulas. When used against enemies (the large ones), the warrior is pulled towards the enemy, allowing him/her to close the distance rapidly, and attack up close.
When powered-up, the Hookshot can pull down the dreaded-looking moon and deal heavy damage in a small area upon impact.
Potions
Potions are used to restore Hearts in the middle of battle. A character will unlock this tool by enabling the Empty Bottle badge. By upgrading this badge, any warrior can carry up to three bottles/potions.
There are five types of potions. You'll start with the ordinary Red Potion that heals 5 hearts. As you find more Skulltulas and unlock more illustration pieces, the color and quality of the potion(s) you can equip will change.
Red Potion | Recover 5 Hearts | Empty Bottle Badge |
Purple Potion | Recover 5 Hearts, and 50% SP attack gauge | 2 Illustration Pieces |
Blue Potion | Recover 10 Hearts, and 50% SP attack gauge | 7 Illustration Pieces |
Green Potion | Recover 10 Hearts, and one SP attack gauge | 25 Illustration Pieces |
Golden Potion | Recover 15 Hearts, and 1 & 1/2 SP attack gauge | 50 Illustration Pieces |
Fairies
In Adventure Mode, there are Keeps cursed elemental barriers. While inside these barriers, you and your troops will suffer continuous damage. To prevent this from happening, you have to use Fairies to dispel the barrier. You have to use a Fairy with the same element as the barrier to remove it.
Fairy of Fire | Dispels Barriers of Fire in Keeps |
Fairy of Water | Dispels Barriers of Water in Keeps |
Fairy of Lightning | Dispels Barriers of Lightning in Keeps |
Fairy of Light | Dispels Barriers of Light in Keeps |
Fairy of Darkness | Dispels Barriers of Darkness in Keeps |
