Chapter 04 Sidequests

Most of these quest are not time-sensitive so you can go back to it at any time once it's been triggered. They are not chapter specific either and can usually be started at any time provided that the prerequisite sidequest has been completed.

This list simply gives the earliest possible timeframe a particular quest is made accessible to you. The game however does become quite linear in later chapters, so it's best to finish as much of these quests as you can when you still have the opportunity to explore freely.

Hammerhead Outpost

A Better Drain Lance II - 2000 EXP, Drain Lance III

Cid can make an even better version of the Drain Lance if you give him a Coeurl Whisker. This is a level 34 monster that I found while doing the Mind the Trap quest. One thing to note is that you have quite a fight on your hands if you run into a Coeurl at low levels. Its strongest attack by far is the lightning spell of sorts. Avoid this at all costs and keep your HPs high at all times.

A Better Bioblaster - 2000 EXP, Bioblaster Plus

You can pick up a Bioblaster during the trip to the Tomb of the Wise with Cor in chapter 2. Show the weapon to Cid and he'll upgrade it if you can give him a Dynamo. This component is dropped by the imperial mechs which are typically found at imperial blockades or bases. Give one to Cid and he'll start working on the mod. However you will have to a while before he completes it, and will give Noctis a call when he does. Pass the time by completing hunts, sidequests or main quests.

Lestallum's Finest - 2000 EXP, 2x Griffron Breast, 5x Saxham Rice, 5x Schier Tumeric

Takka gives you this quest after completing Everyone Loves Beans. He asks that you go to Lestallum to shop for ingredients. Head to the market in Lestallum and visit the particular stall there. Only to have the owner tell you that the delivery fell off the truck, so it's up to you to go grab it. Head to that location and you'll find a group of Garula plus a level 32 Garulessa roaming the area. Defeat all of them and grab the goods to be taken back to the merchant in Lestallum. He will then give you the ingredients Takka has been looking for. After which you can return to Hammerhead for your reward.

Coernix Station Cauthess

New to the Road - 350 EXP, 900 Gil

Before going with Ardyn to the Disc of Cauthess, you'll find the man and his broken down car by the roadside just south of the outpost. Buy a repair kit from the shop and give it to the driver to complete this quest.

Cauthess Rest Area

A Rocky End - 1000 EXP, 10x Hi-Elixir

This quest is given by Dave after you complete Final Resting Plains. Well you know what he wants by now so head over to the location, which is just a minute away by car and start scouring the area for the dog tag. It is tucked away next to a boulder by the southwest edge of the search area.

Taelpar Rest Area

Swallowed by Shadows - 1200 EXP, 10x Hi-Elixir

Here is another dog tag sidequest from Dave. Mark the quest on your map as always and drive there. The dog tag's location is shown on the image above.

Lestallum

Van Interrupted, Again - 2500 EXP

It appears you have more cargo to collect from the same client who had his delivery stalled again. Mark the location the map as always then go slay the Voretooths lurking around the van. Grab the cargo and take it back to the merchant.

Wild About Onions - 2500 EXP

After completing A Hunt for a Harvest, you can get another quest from Furloch. He is looking for some bulbous onions this time, and you can pick these up from the food spots on the map. Mark the location your map and go there to grab some then deliver them to the merchant.

Tails Spin - 2000 EXP

Check the box by the arms dealer's stall after completing Ace of Carapace to get this quest. He wants you to slay some Spiracorns and bring him their Supple Tail. Head for the designated spot and return to your client once you have the goods.

Vyv's Volcanic Inspiration - 3000 EXP, 15000 Gil

For this quest, Vyv wants a snapshot of the summit of the Rock of Ravatogh. This volcano is a dungeon and you'll have to climb it to reach the photo spot. It can be quite a task with enemies ranging from levels 25 - 38. The stronger monsters are closer to the summit however so you may want to put this off for a while if your character levels are low.
