Chapter 12
The final chapter of Injustice 2 is unique compared to all the rest, in a variety of ways too. It begins with a long cinematic with no fights, but one that will shape the ending. Brainiac is lying on the ground after being defeated by Batman, as Superman finally release his mind from controlling the ship. The Man of Steel was able to savage most of the cities destroyed, but not Coast City or Metropolis. And because of this, Superman is ready to execute him for what he has done as the other heroes board the ship. Batman preaches that they need to save Brainiac so they can try to save the rest of the cities, but Superman declares Metropolis lost forever and wants to punish Brainiac because of so with the penalty of death.
Things become contentious between the two, as a few of the others voice their opinions and join their given sides, ending with Batman striking Superman with a gold Kryptonite Knife that he received from Firestorm. Superman arises after this, stating it's time to finish this. And it is here that the player is required to choose which side they are on: Batman's side of saving Brainiac or Superman's side of killing he. Whether you support executing villains and criminals without a trial or if you support giving everyone the right to life, the theme of Injustice forces you to make a choice. From here, two separate alternate endings happen dependent upon which side you choose.
If you choose the Capped Crusader, he will again attack Superman with the golden Krytonite Knife as the rest of the heroes spring into action to fight for the side they believe in. Aquaman was the first to support Superman's view, believing Brainiac should receive the same fate as Gorilla Grodd, and he's the first to oppose and fight Batman. Defeating Aquaman draws the attention of Black Adam, who actually takes Batman out of Skull Ship and has him drop into the city of Gotham.
Batman makes a safe landing in the city he calls his own, and then Black Adam gives chase to Batman. The two eventually have a battle, and after defeating him, Batman calls for the Batmobile to bring him to his Batcave. Once there, the Dark Knight calls Supergirl to help lure the rest of his enemies to him so he can better prepare. Supergirl does as Batman requests, bringing both Superman and Wonder Woman to the Batcave. Batman is now suited in much stronger gear, ones that looked as if enhanced with Kryptonite. Supergirl and Superman quickly begin to fight in the background as Wonder Woman heads for Batman. Once she is defeated, only Superman remains to be faced.
The two have a small moment of reminiscing about the good old days, the same when life was so much simpler, when they were still friends and were excited for the birth of Superman's child that ultimately never was. The fond memories quickly come to an end as Superman swings and lands a punch on Batman, which makes it clear those times are forever gone. It is time to finish the fight and take down Superman once and for all.
Winning this final battle sees Superman unconscious and in handcuffs. Batman and Supergirl then bring Superman to the Fortress of Solitude, where they then send him to the Phantom Zone for all the crimes he has committed. The Man of Steel vows to return in revenge, but Batman tells he'll be ready for him when he does. Superman quickly walks away into the abyss, and Supergirl mourns for what has happened to Superman spiritually and all the damage he has caused, stating he has made the symbol they wear upon their chest an emblem of fear. Batman tells her that her emblem means whatever she decides it to be, that it doesn't have to be one that invokes fear. The two then vow to make the Earth a good place once more, and then the end credits roll.
