Quahog ComicCon 2014

Introduction

All things being equal, they couldn't have picked a more appropriate real-world tie-in than ComicCon... We can only imagine that the Questers who are actually attending ComicCon right now must find it surreal that they are also playing ComicCon in the game.

So the back story is pretty simple - Comic-Con has come to Quahog - the convention facilities are situated right where the Full Moon Event stuff was - at the top of the play window in the woods north of town.

This time around there are three structures to be built for the event - and a smattering of typical exhibits ala Transformers.

The "Q" is a whiff on the "W" Hotel chain - as for the Quahog Convention Center, with any luck we will get to keep that - and of course the Clamterprise is a whiff on Star Trek (but then the splash screen has Captain Picard in attendance doesn't it?).

To kick things off this event appears to have a 46-day timer - whoohoo! - and we are going to need to collect Energy Drinks - called Blam! - to unlock the three ComicCon structures. To do that we'll need to complete event quests - or spend Clams on the special objects that pay-out Blam! but probably we will just do lots of quests.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Updated Warning: 29 August

You are rapidly running out of time as the event timer ticks down, and we do NOT want to be accused of failing to make the following points - so we are now going to make the following points:

  1. This event WILL END on 8 September 2014 at 3PM PDT (GMT -8)

  2. When the event ends ALL Premium Items will be REMOVED from the Store.

  3. If you WANT Premium Items you NEED to buy them BEFORE the event ENDS.

  4. All of the Blam! Items will ALSO be removed when the timer ends.

  5. We strongly suggest that you begin buying Blam! based items now or sooner than now.

  6. Even if you have to put items into storage - buy them - because regret sucks.

Iron Baby Outfit and Stewie Character

For those of you who have been in a panic regarding the Stewie Griffin Missions that come later in the game and who have NOT unlocked the character of Stewie - be aware that the Iron Baby Mission WILL UNLOCK for you - and you CAN complete it - but until you actually have added Stewie to your game you cannot use that outfit. So be comforted. All is NOT lost!

You have been informed...

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Warning

Considering that this Special Event includes a timer with 45+ days of time on it you may be thinking that this one will be a snap to unlock and collect everything... Before you jump to that conclusion, there are a few minor issues that should be considered.

Guide Image

1. The Continuing Saga of Quahog.

While this new Special Event introduces lots of new things to do, you must still address and deal with the existing and ongoing issues in your town. This event is going to introduce lots of new Buildings and objects - for which you are going to need lots of open space in which to place them.

If you put your main game on hold for 45 days and focus exclusively on the event you will surely be able to complete all of its many aspects - but at the cost of not being able to use some of it.

2. Expansion Requirements.

At this point in your game if you have been playing regularly since the game launch, you will very likely be facing the following Challenges:

a. Completing District 8 (The Entertainment DIstrict) and Unlocking its Characters

Among the many concerns here are the following line items that you really need to accomplish in a timely fashion just to stay current:

  • Unlocking Stewie

  • Stewie Unlock Item: Completing Brian's P B & J Outfit

  • Stewie Unlock Item: Completing Peter's Falconer Outfit

  • Land Expansion: Unlocking the two remaining Land Expansion Slots

  • Carter Pewterschmidt in Quahog Malt Shoppe ($10K Coin)

  • Unlocking Carter

  • Completing the District 8 Mission Series to Unlock District 9

  • Unlocking District 9

  • Completing District 9's Land Expansion Slots

  • Mayor West in City Hall

  • Unlocking Mayor West

  • Tom Tucker in Quahog 5 News

  • Unlocking Tom Tucker

All of the above will require you to expend a great deal of effort and to collect a huge amount of Coin. And this also requires a lot of time and committing Characters to tasks that are not necessarily in line with the Tasks for the Special Event - which means balancing out their activities.

Which is why while 45 days may seem like a lot of time, it really isn't. So take this friendly warning as it is meant to be taken - as a friendly warning to stay on top of the different things you need to do in the game, and try to keep it all in perspective, and know what your goals and wants are!

A word of caution about the Buildings...

Assuming that you had sufficient Clams and Blam! to actually purchase all of the event Buildings we did the math, and even if you have somehow managed to unlock ALL of the expansion land slots, and District 8's expansion - there is not enough real estate to actually place all of the buildings from the event if you have also participated in the previous events and obtained the bulk of the buildings, objects, and decorations for them! Just saying...

--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--

Event Prizes

The following prizes are obtained via your Event Score - which you achieve in the game during the event by collecting Blam!

It is important to be aware that the Score-based Prizes are NOT at all the same as the special and event items in that you do not actually spend any of the Blam! you have collected for them. Unlike event items, which you DO spend Blam! on to purchase, Prizes are "unlocked" as a result of reaching targeted number totals of Blam! score.

The following Event Prizes are available so far:

  • Phone Booth (65 Score)

  • Rock-It Playground (1000 Score))

  • Gatomobile (5000 Score)

  • Sir Lanceawart's Board Games (10,000 Score)

Missions and Quests

No Special Event is complete without its Missions and Quests right? Even though there are Tasks that most of the Characters can complete that pay out Blam! one of the best sources is the Missions and Quests - just saying - so hey, get to it!

Note that the Missions & Quests are listed in alphabetical order EXCEPT for the very FIRST Mission (Quahog Comic Con) which is how the event is flagged and NOT in the order that they appear to unlock and flag in the game (which will be different for everyone anyway). We find that listing them this way makes the most sense. We hope you do too.

Tea, Earl Grey, Hot.

Helpful Hint: Character Unlocking

One of the most serious impediments - and the biggest problem - you are going to have with the game is the process of gathering all of the required resources for unlocking Characters - not so much because the resources are difficult to obtain in the quantities required (though certain ones actually are) but because the characters tend to come in waves.

This Special Event is a perfect example.

Prior to the launch of the Quahog Comic Con Special Event chances are pretty good that in addition to working on the unlocking and completion of the special Outfits for Lois and Brian, you were also working towards unlocking the new Characters of Stewie Griffin and Carter Pewterschmidt.

The direct result of the Special Event was to add the Characters of Sir Patrick Stewart, Ron Perlman, Felicia Day, Stan Lee, Nathan Fillion, Bryan Cranston, and George Takei - so naturally you end up with a fruit salad of different resource tasks facing you.

If you fail to maintain personal discipline the unlocking process ends up taking ten-times longer than it should, and this is especially true if there are certain Characters you really want to unlock - like Nathan and George for me :)

Bottom line? Some of the Characters are more important than the others, and while it would really suck to fail to get everything you need to add all of them, getting characters like Stewie and Carter into the game as quickly as you can has very significant and long-lasting benefits.

Just keep your head down and work the problems one character at a time and you will be so much better off than otherwise.

Creature from the Goo Lagoon

After Stewie is transformed and mutated by some mysterious substance called Brill Cream, he has set out to BE the monster he feels he is being treated as, and so it seems he has kidnapped a celebrity - though really if you think about it, what Stewie thinks of as a celebrity and what the average person thinks of as a celebrity are probably not the same thing...

It seems that Mutant Stewie has put Sir Patrick's lunch at risk - and that is a threat no Englishman can possibly tolerate! Lunch man! We are talking LUNCH!

Clearly revenge must be had... And it seems that Peter is willing to play a role in this two-part Mission:

1. Zap Latcher Stewie

Zapper Rewards

See a Latcher Stewie? Zap him! You'll not only free your building, but you'll also get some valuable items. Zapping Stewie is also a great source of Blam!

You can also get Pizza, Puppies, and Old Movies; those being resources that are required for fully unlocking Sir Patrick and Ron Perlman.

Successfully Zapping Stewie results in a reward of 50 Blam! and 35 XP.

Enfant Terrible

As is clearly the case, the exposure to a mixture of random Geek and Nerd trash has transformed Stewie Griffin in a manner that obtained very bad results that threaten the peace and the safety of Quahog. This disaster happening so quickly following the complete destruction of the town in a rogue Chicken Fight may very well be the straw that broke the dromedary's Apical Vertebra - just saying.

Even though Stewie is your son, you have to help the authorities (in the form of Sir Patrick Stewart, Quahog's newest immigrant resident) get a handle on the situation - or kill Stewie - whichever costs less.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Enfant Terrible Pt. 1

Learn how to vanquish Giant Stewie... When you flag this Quest, tapping on the button to begin the quest does not immediately pull up a Task list with the most correct highlighted Task presented to you. Instead it pulls up a comic-book-like page that explains what you need to do... This explanation comes in three panels:

  • Panel 1: "Giant Stewie can be killed with pesticides. Spray him with different kinds so he doesn't become resistant."

  • Panel 2: "Get pesticides from Hero Outfits, Celebrities, and Latcher Stewies."

  • Panel 3: "Spray him with pesticides many times in a row before he leaves for a Big Streak Bonus!"

OK, so are we clear on this? Pesticides kill him; get them from Hero Outfits, Celebs, and Latcher Stewie, then use the pesticides a LOT as fast as you can?

Once you are sure that you have this down cold, hit the green button that is labeled "LET'S GO!" and you will then be shown an in-depth description of this Mission requirements on the off chance that you were bullshitting us when you said you actually DID understand the three steps, because hey, you could totally be lying about that!

PESTICIDES

You can get pesticides from Hero Outfits and Celebrities. Defeating Latcher Stewies also drop pesticides!

In the actions menu, look for the cardboard box. This means an action can drop different stuff. Tap the cardboard boxes to reveal what's inside - there's a good chance it will be pesticides.

Note that when we say "Actions" we mean "Tasks" and when we say "cardboard box" we mean "Prize Box" and when we say "an action can drop" we mean you can totally score some righteous loot by doing that Task.

After you complete reading this page and hit the Continue Button you then officially have completed the first part of this new Mission - meaning you have now completed Enfant Terrible Pt. 1 - and you are now ready to move on to the next part of the mission. Well done you!

Your reward for completing this Mission - other than the knowledge of howt o take down Giant Stewie - is 50 Blam! and 35 XP and the thanks of a grateful Quahog. This automagically flags the next part for this mission straight away...

Enfant Terrible Pt. 2

Captain Hammered takes on Giant Stewie... Because hey, every super hero has to have a villain, and every great super hero has to have a seriously dangerous and very evil villain - that is just how it works.

Austin Powers had Dr. Evil, Batman had the Joker, Clarice Starling had Hannibal Lecter, and Harry Potter had Lord Voldemort! Taking it a bit farther we would be remiss if we failed to point out that John McClane had Professor Snape.. Err.. No, he had Hans Gruber. Luke Skywalker had Darth Vader, Superman - Lex Luthor, and that total wimp Van Helsing had Dracula - seriously you see what we are saying?

Well in our story Peter Griffin AKA Captain Hammered is paired with his infant son, Stewie Griffin, AKA Latcher / Giant Stewie! And now it is time to get serious and take care of that Stewie fella once and for all! OK, not really but still...

1. Have Captain Hammered Gather Smelly Pesticides;

2. Tap Giant Stewie and Vanquish Him.

That means:

1. Gather Smelly Pesticides (2h) $30. 20 XP and 6 Blam! *

2. Spawn Giant Latcher Stewie. Tap the Button to activate this stage, which causes Giant Stewie to spawn on top of the Convention Center. This starts a 24h timer though - so you need to take him down in 24h!

This works exactly like the Mission for King Butt did - you have a timer to complete each phase and as long as you succeed in completing it the rewards grow larger and larger.

* Tapping the Cardboard Box to the right of the Task Listing reveals the prize to ALWAYS be spray pesticide of one type of the other.

Special Mission Notes

Smelly Pesticide Mystery Boxes: these can be had in the Event Tab in the In-Game Store for 95C each. There is one type of Mystery Box for each type of pesticide - so a Smelly, a Gross, and a Foamy - all of which cost 95C each.

Bryan Cranston

Bryan Cranston is now in town for Comic-Con. Have him join your guest panel before the convention ends! When Bryan Cranston isn't winning Emmys, he's dropping the pesticide needed to beat Giant Stewie! Bryan's actions drop all three pesticides at the same time!

Note that Bryan Cranston is a PREMIUM CHARACTER. To obtain him in the game you have to pay 500C - that is Five-Hundred Clams (whoa that is an expensive Premium Character!). On the other hand that pretty much means you will have no trouble getting pesticides to battle and defeat Giant Latcher Stewie, but still...

Completing this Mission also rewards you with 50 Blam! and 35 XP.

Helpful Hints: Pesticide Mystery Boxes

First please bear in mind that these were not added to the game out of the goodness of TinyCo's hearts... They cost a whopping 95 Clams! That is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination! You would think that 25C would have been a more fair and equitable - not to say reasonable - price, but there you have it.

With that observation to help you make use of these - if you DO end up choosing to make use of them - you need to understand that they are not mandatory, they are optional - and they may very well end up being the strategic tool you NEED to push your Blam! totals over the top for the higher-end prizes you just cannot live without.

With that in mind NOW is NOT the time to buy these.

You see the point to the Pesticide Mystery Boxes is you use them to boost the number of the type of pesticide you NEED for whatever stage of the Mission you are on in dealing with Giant Latcher Stewie during the 24h timer.

The idea behind that is so you keep the Streak Meter rolling. Why do that? Because as long as complete each phase of the Giant Latcher Stewie Battle within the timer each time, you multiply the amount of Blam! you will be receiving as your reward.

The formula works like this: Each time you complete the battle inside the timer (which means collecting the required amount and types of pesticide and using them on Giant Latcher Stewie) you advance the reward multiplier meter = that being the "Streak" part in all this. So each time you successfully complete the battle inside the timer, it multiplies as follows:

  1. x1 - You receive the Base Reward of 100 Blam!

  2. x3 - You receive three-times the Base Reward, or 300 Blam!

  3. x8 - You receive eight-times the Base Reward, or 800 Blam!

  4. x15 - You receive fifteen-times the Base Reward, or 1,500 Blam!

  5. x25 - You receive twenty-five-times the Base Reward, or 2,500 Blam!

As long as you continue to complete the collection and battle phase inside the 24h timer each session you will continue to receive the x25 multiplier, or 2,500 Blam! as your reward. If you fail and do NOT complete the collection and/or battle inside the timer, the multiplier resets to x1 and you start the process all over again. So don't fail, right?

Guide Image

The reason that this is so important has to do with the prizes that are part of the Blam! Collection. In fact it is VERY important if, for example, you are determined to obtain the higher-end Blam! Collection Prizes.

To refresh your memory, the Blam! Collection Prizes are:

Cans? Prize Prize Description
65 Blam! Red UK-Style Phone Booth For changing into your Hero Outfit
1,000 Blam! Rock-It Playground A NASA themed playground familiar to 1980s Geeks everywhere
5,000 Blam! The Gatomobile Spanish for Cat Car
10,000 Blam! Sir Lanceawart's Board Games A Game Store familiar to all 1990s Geeks everywhere
15,000 Blam! Outhouse of Loneliness The perfect companion that compliments the Fabulous 4 HQ
35,000 Blam! Red Hot Super Hero Outfit The Hero Outfit for Lois Griffin
50,000 Blam! The "Q" Hotel A permanent structure like the one at the Convention Center Complex*
65,000 Blam! Robuttasaurus A Mechanical Battle Dinosaur
85,000 Blam! Nothing Suspicious Here Factory One of Stewie Griffin's Secret Lairs and Laboratory
100,000 Blam! George Takei Director's Chair and Character Mr. Sulu from Star Trek

* As was the case with the Full Moon Event, the primary active Buildings for the Quahog Comic-Con Event appear at the north-side of your Quahog in the Temporary Staging Area (or TSA). When the event ends ALL of those buildings, structures, and objects will be removed from the game.

A mechanism has been added to the game to allow you to obtain those Buildings outside of the TSA - if you want them the ones we know so far include the following:

  • Clamterprize -- Obtained as a random prize from the Robo Brian Mystery Box (Cost = 75C Each Go)

  • Gatomobile -- Collect 5,000 Blam! as part of the Blam! Collection Mission and claim the Gatomobile Prize.

  • "Q" Hotel -- Collect 50,000 Blam! as part of the Blam! Collection Mission and claim the "Q" Prize.

  • Single Spotlight (150 Blam!)

  • Wacky Waving Tube Hero -- Robo Brian Mystery Box Prize.

These are of course a part of their own unique Mission-line, one that require you to collect specific target amounts of Blam! in order to unlock the various prizes. You do NOT have to PAY that amount for each prize, you simply must collect the target amount as your cumulative total over the lifespan of the Special Event Timer otherwise known as Quahog Comic-Con.

So basically with the Pesticide Mystery Boxes, what you want to do is collect Blam! in the usual way, and then in the last couple of days of the event, if you are SURE you will not be able to reach your goal for whatever prize it is that you simply must have, THEN is when you start spending Clams on those suckers - but ONLY then!

Methods of a Badass

This is the default Mission line for the Premium Character of Bryan Cranston, the actor who made cooking meth almost look heroic in the cult TV show Breaking Bad. Red Headed Rival

Well mates you have finally reached the point in the Special Event in which we get to add a fixture at Comic Cons in recent years, and a genuinely nice woman. You probably know her best from her role in the made-for-web show The Guild, or perhaps you know her from her recurring role as Vi on Buffy the Vampire Slayer - or Dr. Holly Martin on Eureka.

Actually she has done other interesting but not really mainstream stuff too, like plahing Penny in Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog, and her voice work in video games, which includes Fallout: New Vegas (Veronica Santangelo), played Tallis in Dragon Age II, the role of Zojja in Guild Wars 2, and most recently the role of Felicia in the TV show My Gimpy Life.

Nuff said - Hi Felicia (we've met three times, once at E3, once at PAX, and once on an airplane). Now back to the Mission!

Bombs Away

We knew this was all too easy - collecting pesticide to deal with a Giant Latcher Stewie! Here had to be a catch to all this - and it seems that we have now found it: Minion Stewies! What the deuce?!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Bombs Away Pt. 1

Learn how to fight Minion Stewies - yeah, I suppose that would be a fitting first Quest for this new Mission, wouldn't it?

It seems that Minion Stewies have invaded Quahog - they are tap-resistant and can only be destroyed by pesticide bombs! Drop pesticide bombs on Minions - how many can you kill with one bomb? FYI: Minion Stewies drop Blam! and materials (resources) for both Blobulous and Stan Lee!

Bombs can be obtained from Hero Outfit Drops, Celebrity Drops, Bomb Racks, and as Quest Rewards.

Reading all of this - and hitting the OKAY Button - was all you had to do to complete this first Quest, and how about that? Easy-peasy!

This also awards you with 50 Blam!, 35 XP, and 3 Pesticide Bombs.

Bombs Away Pt. 2

Now that you know HOW to Bomb Minions, and you HAVE the bombs with which to BOMB the Minions, it is time to Bomb some Minions.

Before you get worried that your game is broken when the game screen changes to bomb-targeting mode and you lose all control over it, and cannot move it to aim, know that this is actually working as intended mates. You are not supposed to do anything other than hit the big green bomb release button - there is in fact a Minion down there, and this is just intended to show you by demonstration what happens when you launch a bombing run. So do it! Push the button!

This also awards you with 50 Blam!, 35 XP, and 1 Pesticide Bomb (to replace the one you just used)

Helpful Hint: Getting Lots of Minions with One Bomb

The Bombardier Training Parts 5 and 6 seem to be generating a lot of frustration among players in that it is rather difficult to get that many minions grouped together close enough to take them out with one bomb. Particularly if you have a town so large that you have already unlocked District 8...

There is a trick you can use however to make this a lot easier... It seems that the Minions prefer to walk on the sidewalk next to streets - oh, they will walk on the grass, but given the option, they prefer the sidewalk.

A simple and elegant hack for this is to temporarily remove ALL of the roads in your town except for a set connecting the temporary Convention Center in the north with one longer road running left-right below it. Then create a few orphaned stretches of road in other districts.

The result of this is several areas in your town that attract the Minions - while it is not easy to get 10 of them in one spot even with this method, it is a LOT easier than trying to do it with lots of roads mates. I spent two days trying to get 8 Minions in one bomb and failing - then when I noticed that they tended to stick to the sidewalks, I created three isolated roads and low and behold I had the 8 Minions with one bomb in less than a minute - first try!

The Creator

Well there you go! It is time for The Creator to arrive in Quahog - The Creator being legendary comic creator Stan Lee of course! Man he is more famous than Hugh Hefner! And as old too!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Guide Image

The Creator Pt. 1

Peter needs to help out another trapped celebrity!

1. Open Cocoon

2. Help Stan Lee

Note: You should keep an eye on the timer for this event - you need to not only add these special Characters to your Quahog, you need to complete unlocking them BEFORE the timer runs down, as otherwise you will not be able to KEEP them. It is just like the situation with Cleveland Brown and the Full Moon Event - as long as you unlock them fully - which means collecting their kit - you do get to keep them.

Part 1. Open the Cocoon.

Stan Lee is suspended from the third flagpole in front of the Event Q Hotel at the Convention Center in the temporary Event Zone at the top (north side) of the town. Simply tap the tool-icon to release him and engage the unlocking system following the completion of its 8h timer.

Part 2. Help Stan Lee

In order to fully unlock Stan Lee you need to collect the following resources:

  • 10 Classic Books (Bomb Minion Stewie / Quagmire Task / Q Hotel / Old Timey Bookstore)

  • 15 Notebooks (Red Shirt Nerds / Lois Task / Stan Lee's Trailer)

  • 15 Movie Cameras (Bomb Minions / Stewart Task / Mort Task / Outhouse / Film Museum)

  • 15,000 Cans of Blam! (Collect in the usual manner)

This also awards you with 50 Blam!, 35 XP and 3 Rockets!

Note that completing this - if you have been following the guide - will also result in completing the Comic-Con Celebrities Character Collection - which will nicely slide 50 Clams into your Clam Bank and should also tip the character count on FaceSpace to 32/32!

Queen of the Castle

The world of gaming and fantasy TV and movies is a relatively small one, with a lot of overlap. Inside that world there are very few men and women who do not know or have worked with Nathan.

In fact if this were another era, by now there would be a cute name applied to the group that includes Nathan Fillion, Felicia Day, Neil Patrick Harris, Joss Whedon, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, the list is a lot longer. They are not just professional actors they are really genuinely good people. So having some of them land in our Quahog? Awesome!

Note that the only way to GET Nathan in your game is to spend some Clams because he is a Premium Character. But as his character includes a Quest line and a chair, and besides he is wicked cool, well, you are just going to have to spend some Clams!

if I don't finish everything with comic con, can I continue with comic con by waiting to update the game.

While that tactic does work if the event is a hard event - that is to say that it requires a player-initiated update to end - in the case of Comic Con it does not. It is a soft event with a soft timer, so it is going to end whether you want it to or not, and its end does not require you to do anything or OK an update. So no, sorry, that is not going to work.

I was curious. if I don't finish everything with comic con, can I continue with comic con by waiting to update the game. I know the comic con is said to end September 8th but will it still be active as long as I don't update it?¿? If u have any answers to this question, please email me at [email protected]. Thank you
