New Costumes

This is special content that is created in combination with the proprietor of Al Harrington's Outfits and follows the very well established resource collection scheme previously used for that effect.

When the event launched there was one new Costume present at Al Harrington's meant to be assembled: the Sexy Santa Lois Costume.

New Characters

The fllowing new Characters are added to Quahog - details for the adding of each are available in the section of this Guide Section in which they are added - but we thought that this summary overview would be of interest to you!

What do you suppose the chances are of actually unlocking Jesus? That is a pretty hefty resource requirement - but hey, if you DO manage it, please let us know and maybe snap a pic to share?

Mall Santa Challenge

There is actually a point to unlocking and added the Sexy Lois Santa Outfit to your game... While you are in the process of gathering the resources to do this, one of the Santa Missions for Peter will have you build the Quahog Mall, after which the town will be flooded in Mall Santa. In her guise as Sexy Lois Santa you will be able to "collect" them. Or as I like to think of it, rid the world of them. But still....

Santa's Wish List

This is a new and hidden event - you actually have to tap on the sleigh inside the Event Staging Area and Zone on the North Side of the Town in order to pop-up its menu. Go ahead and do that now... We will wait.

Right, so as you can see, the pop-up provides the details for what this secret Quest requires: Santa Claus has a list of the things that each of the residents of Quahog (heh, I almost wrote Springfield there) wants for Xmas - and it is our job to get those items for them! Well, not really our job as such...

But here is the thing - IF we actually manage to obtain all of the items on the list below, we will permanently unlock the character of Santa - and hey, that would be cool! So let us have a look at the list, shall we?

So here is the rub - you pretty much know what each person on your list wants in terms of their Xmas Gift but you cannot simply go out and buy them. What it is, and this sort of sucks, is you have to MAKE them. And when we say MAKE them, what we really mean is make the different Holiday Gift Boxes that you can Craft via the Santa's Workshop Menu.

The problem with this is that you never know what is going to be INSIDE that Gift Box. For example, the one that we crafted for the Quest - the required Gift Box? It had a Frozen Skate Pond in it! Now don't take this wrong mates, we are not complaining.... We liked the Skate Pond - we placed it in our town. The point is we had no more control over what was in the box than we did when the sun would come up!

This introduces a special set of difficulties here because basically what you are going to have to do is craft Gift Boxes - and keep Crafting them - until you obtain all of the items on the list that you need! Sounds simple enough right? Well, it isn't.

The Gift Boxes you can craft are:

Focusing your attention on the acquisition of the required resources and Crafting the boxes is the only secondary concern for this event, so when we are not focusing our attention on the main quests and missions this is what we should be focusing it on.

How to best accomplish this secret Mission? Why by gathering resources of course!

The core resources are obtained largely as a consequence of play anyway, but there are certain things that we can do to help the process along... Those are:

• Collect Snowmen - Tap on the roving Snowmen to collect Gingerbread Men and Candy Canes
• Complete Character Tasks - Each character Task or Job has a different reward, but even during special and holiday events those tend to remain unchanged, which means they pay off in money and XP for the most part. Except when they don't. Some of the existing Tasks - and a lot of the temporary new ones that are added for the term of the event - pay off in event-specific rewards. What we are interested in is the Tasks that pay Gingerbread Men, Holiday Cheer, and other Crafting resources. So keeping your Characters busy with Tasks is a really good idea.

Under normal circumstances the task you choose for a given character is usually based upon its length, and sometimes its reward; depending upon the Task Policy you have created for the duration of the Event though, what Tasks you choose will obviously differ from the usual Tasks or Quests...

Notes on Rarity of Resources

• Gingerbread Men = Common Resource

• Candy Cane Stockings = Rare Resource

• Doll Stockings = Very Rare Resources

Notes on Character Levels

Obviously we don't know anything for certain but we are hoping that the upcoming content expansion that covers District 10 will also be a cap extension.

Right now the character caps are set at Level 25 for Peter Griffin, and Level 15 for everyone else. The level cap for Quahog is Level 50 - a lot of Questers don't believe that there is a level cap for he town but I can tell you straight up that there is - I know that because my Quahog meter reads "MAX" :) and has for weeks...

That means that if your game is close in those respects that while our actions and tasks are profitable, they are clearly not helping in terms of levels. And that would be nice to have addressed. Just saying.

Event Organization

Before you delve too deeply into the Christmas 2014 Event it would be a very good idea to take stock of the present state of affairs in your Quahog - and specifically to obtain a sense of the status of your town and the outstanding issues in terms of missions and quests - both the stuff that is clearly coming up the pipeline as well as the leftovers that you are still dealing with.

You should try to assess these and create a plan on how you will deal with and address the two types of missions and quests because, and this should be pretty obvious to you by now, odds are that they will end up conflicting with each other in terms of resources and the available time.

While out assessment has to be qualified as being rather generic, it is a sincere attempt to offer a plan by which you can deal with a situation that will rapidly spiral out of control if you leave it to its own devices. That is to say if you allow this to unfold on its own with no guidance you can pretty much anticipate that it will cause serious organizational problems for you.

To keep this orderly we should assign at least a basic level of priority to each of the conflicting elements as the first step towards deciding what will be dealth with and what will be momentarily pushed under the proverbial carpet...

So roll up your sleeves because here we go!

Land Expansion

We have been anticipating that there would be Land Expansion fduing the Xmas Event if only because most players - and we include ourselves in that - have already reached maximum density and cannot move forward on the basis of having sufficient room to place new structures.

While we were expecting and had anticipated the unlocking of District 10 - and we had a pretty good idea of what that entailed - the addition of the entire north-south strip of new land on the far western edge of the map was not anticipated but is a very Welcome presence!

To summarize the new Land Expansion offerings, they are:

Expansion Area 1: District 10

This land expansion area consists of the entire District 10 parcel that is situated in and makes up the entire block of previously wooded area that makes up the entire southeast portion of the city of Quahog...

This newly defined District contains the still-damaged Buildings of the Pawtucket Brewery, and likely a collection of rubble from the buildings that occupied that area prior to the Great Fire.

At this time there is no information about what it will take to unlock District 10 or WHEN that will happen, but if they follow the established protocols for this, what should happen is, at some point in the midst of the Holiday Event there will be a cap expansion Update, at which time the details for unlocking District 10 will be revealed...

Expansion Area II: The Western Strip

This new area consists of the entire north-south strip going one lot deep to the west for the town of Quahog, which basically consists of six (6) small Land Expansion Lots, each of which must be cleared and rehabilitated... These are, from south to north:

• Land Expansion Lot 1 $120K + 24h

• Land Expansion Lot 1 $105K + 24h

• Land Expansion Lot 1 $90K + 24h

• Land Expansion Lot 1 $75K + 24h

• Land Expansion Lot 1 $60K + 24h

• Land Expansion Lot 1 $50K + 24h

The total cost for clearing and rehabilitation of the western land strip is $500K. We can begin unlocking and making use of this new land immediately. Or as soon as we can get it cleared, whichever comes first.

Helpful Advice from your Uncle Chris: The addition of new Land Expansion Slots tends to be a very heady and intoxicating thing for players in that it suddenly presents the opportunity to pull all of those objects and Buildings out of storage, now that you actually have someplace to PUT them.... My best advice to you is don't do that....

But if "don't do that" is not sufficient reason to not do that, bear the following in mind: the wizards behind the game would not have added in an entire swath of new land if there wasn't NEED of it - and when I say need I mean specifically need in terms of the current event.

So while I can see the attraction to use the new expansion space to get some of the stored items into the sunshine and fresh air, I want to caution you that when you do that - and I expect you WILL do that - you make sure that you set aside at least SOME of that new land for the event.

This is especially good advice if you are counting on District 10 and its land and spaces as part of the area you get to use to place event content - since we do not know WHEN that area will be made available or WHAT we have to do to unlock it!

Special Warning & Notice

Before we get too involved here there is a Special Warning and Notice that we need to share with you about the phenomenon in hunting circles often referred to as "Buck Fever" and that can - probably will - cause a few problems for you as you play through this event!

On a very basic and physical level what happens is this: they suddenly experience a narrowing of their vision and a corresponding loss of motor control and hearing as time suddenly slows down or speeds up. A rapid heart rate is combined with a sudden feeling of fear. Very often these symptoms are even worse the higher the point value is in terms of trophy status for the animal that they have encountered.

I was once on a hunt with family and friends and witnessed a first time adult hunter, confronted with a trophy buck that has a spectacular set of horns - the penultimate example of that particular breed of male deer and just the sort of target that many hunters go their entire life without ever encountering, and he was instantly and irrevocably afflicted with Buck Fever.

I watched helplessly as he snapped his rifle to his shoulder (I was not armed, I had opted to do my hunting that season with a camera instead of a firearm because I was combining the deer hunting season with my true passion, Birding), took very careful aim, and then proceeded to eject all six rounds in his Marlin cowboy rifle (I call it a cowboy rifle because it looks just like the rifles you see in westerns, with the long barrel and the lever on the bottom that is used to eject the spent shell and load a fresh one.

I swear to God he stood there and jacked that lever down and up six times without ever touching the trigger. Yup, click-click-click-click-click-click and not a single "boom" in the bunch.

Later at the cabin over dinner when the story got told I offered the opinion that the ammunition had obviously been stored outside at some point, and it was a terrible shame that his rifle ended up loaded with a magazine of bad rounds. That was the story that everyone very quickly adopted, and so rather than experience humiliation at his episode of Buck Fever he was spared that indignity and the fiction of a box of bad ammunition was maintained.

To help support that, his uncle took the rounds from his rifle and the box of ammunition from his bag and tossed it into the tool box in the back of his truck, explaining that he would take the ammunition home and strip it and reload it with fresh powder and primer - no sense wasting all that brass right?

Pull the Trigger!

The whole point to this entertaining story about hunters and deer who did not get shot is this: the Christmas event is one of the large and celebrated events of the gaming season, and as such it can (often does) cause players to focus too exclusively upon the events that are taking place in it at the expense of all of the other things that they can (and should) be doing!

The subject that I am specifically addressing is the open list of Quests that are part of the Clipboard Icon at the bottom left-hand side of your game screen. Because in addition to the plethora of event-related quests that appear there will also be quests from the regular story mode campaign for the game. And as is often the case a sort of Buck Fever can hit during events like this so that those non-event quests? They don't get any effort applied to them.

That is bad for a number of reasons - not the least being that if you plan on being able to take advantage of and unlock the new land expansion slots that are part of District 10, you absolutely have to include those as part of your regular game play routine each day!

There is also the fact that a lot of the Characters who are operative in the quests that are associated with District 10 are NOT characters who factor in heavily to the event quests...

So please take this advice in the spirit that it is intended - a happily offered reminder that it is a good idea and excellent game play strategy to remember the regular story mode campaign play as well as the new and very exciting event missions.

Event Task Policy

At least part of the benefits of a guide like ours is that you have advance warning as to which Characters will be actively involved in the various tasks, missions, and their quests going forward.

Despite the almost omniscient nature of that information, you may want to establish some sort of formal policy when it comes to assigning tasks to the Characters who are not taking on an active role in the story tasks and missions.

For example the following Policy - or rules - work well for us:

1. All residents of Quahog are kept on tasks at all times;

2. Wherever possible make-work Tasks whose reward(s) are an event resource - meaning Gingerbread Men (G) and Holiday Cheer (HC);

3. Regardless of rewards the length of any given Quest is preferably no longer than the longest active quest that is part of the current story event.

There you have it - three simple rules that make the task assingments as useful and effective as possible without placing undo burden on the player.

The Missions & Quests Section

This is where you will find the new missions and quests that make up the contents for this new Holiday Special Event. Before we even get started here, am I the only one that found it extremely disturbing that Ernie the Chicken was the kick-off character for this event? I mean really? If this does not bode ill what could?!

Miracle on Spooner Street

As the newest Holiday Special Event officially kicks off on Spooner Street in good old Quahog the very first sight that we are greeted with is Ernie the Chicken - and an almost Angelic Peter Griffin! Now only that, but thanks to the need to ingratiate himself and his family during their first major Holiday in a new Town, the Smith Family has been sharing... information.

You see it turns out that Stan really does work at the CIA... And the CIA really does jeep records on pretty much every citizen, legal or illegal - in the USA! That's disturbing for more than just the whole Snowden thing. . . Just saying.

The basic thrust of this first Mission for the 2014 Christmas Holiday Event has Ernie the Giant Chicken getting rid of Christmas in Quahog!

You may have noticed when you hit the OKAY button that the traditional Special Event Staging Area on the north side of QUahog has been activated... Woot! That means that this one really will be a major event!

Oh man can Peter really be that thick? Really?! Yeah well it turns out that he can - but lucky for us Lois insists that Peter pay attention as they learn how to save Christmas!! And just for the record, I really do not like Cybermen...

Well there you go - it turns out that the event is going to be based on a more organic measure of play and action - with the game play mechanics for the event being pretty straight forward!

1. We help Quahog lift its spirits by decorating the town Christmas Tree;

2. We tap Snowmen to earn Candy Canes and Christmas Cookies for making gifts;

3. We then spread enough Holiday Cheer to upgrade the Christmas Tree bringing new visitors and gifts to Quahog.

Simple enough - really! Now with those marching orders in hand we turn our attention to the Event Interface which, we have to admit is pretty attractive! For a really old woman Lois Griffin is not half bad looking when she is dressed... Umm... Hey!

It is always nice when a figure of power and great reputation takes you into their confidence - so having Santa embrace Peter and include him in the plans for the Christmas 2014 season? Priceless!

Still while the Big-S goes and does his thing at the Mall we need to help out as much as we can, wherever we can, right? And since Santa has business at the Mall - you know, a Mall that does not exist?! Yeah, well we need to get busy and BUILD him that Mall!

Build Quahog Mall

The Quahog Mall Construction Package can be found in the In-Game Store, and is priced not in dollars or in Clams, which you might expect, but rather in the currency of this special Holiday Event - Gingerbread Men! To be precise, it costs 50 Gingerbread Men - but to make this easier going forward whenever an object, building, or other items cost is measured in Gingerbread Men, we will list that price as follows: G50.

By purring the currency price in front of the amount we avoid the appearance of implication that the cost is measured in Thousands - which is usually the meaning of the "G" when it is used with numbers to indicate a cost. So, using our new system, the Quahog Mall expense for purchasing its construction project for our town is G50 - and there you have it!

The actual building process is going to require that you have the available space on which to place the building project - you should - and that you have an available Worker (remember all construction and clearing projects in Quahog require at least one Worker to be asigned to them).

When the project is placed it will begin a 4h timer, at the end of which our Quahog finds itself in possession of a shiny new mall! Woohoo!

In addition to obtaining a Mall - which really is reward enough don't you think? - we ALSO receive an award of 50 Gingerbread Men and 5 Christmas Cheer, so hey!! Win-Win-Win! As my good friend and second cousin Charles would say: WINNING!

The completion reward for this Mission includes x25 Gingerbread Men, x5 Cheer, and x1 Neighbor Gift Boxes.

Creating the Sexy Lois Santa Outfit - this is accomplished by collecting the resources that are required to craft it at Al Harrington. The doing of that is going to take some time, so try not to let that get you frustrated, right? Once you have all of the required resources (that collection is covered elsewhere but it includes the following:x500 Gingerbread Men, x15 Christmas Stars, x7 Santa Dresses, and x5 Mistletoe ) it will take 10m for Al to actually sew up the Costume - which should give you a hint as to just how skimpy it is!

As there are plenty of Mall Santas in town, once you have the Outfit for Lois to wear completing this will be a snap!

The reason for that is that any of those that you purchase come with a pile of Cheer and other resources. So if you can afford to - if you are not playing the game as a game-within-a-game to spend as little as possible, that is one approach that works well.

This is the next one-off Mission for Peter that is assigned by Santa... The objective here is to see who has been naughty, and who has been nice. You would think that this sort of assignment would be more up the alley of Stan - you know, he being CIA and all... But what can you do?

So having Jasper on duty so to speak? That is very very important!

The Christmas Challenges

One of the tactics that the wizards behind the creation of QfS use for each of the major missions is to use Challenge-type Quests in order to allow the player to unlock the special prizes that are part of each event.

The different weekly prizes can be found under the Holiday Challenges Tap in the Main Event Menu.

Sadly this has not been one of the player favorites in terms of event content - in the previous Halloween 2014 event it actually raised some serious ire when the players realized that the only way to complete it was to spend real-world money!

This was a problem because the Ecto-1 - among other prizes - were highly desired but most players (us included) simply could not get there without spending money...

The first few so far have not had the same desperate feeling to them - so I guess we will see how this shakes out in the Christmas Event, right?

Christmas Event 2014 Conclusions

The Christmas Event 2014 began with a great bang and promised some very exceptional adventures, and on that score - at least up until 23rd of December we have to admit that it certainly delivered on those promises.

Unfortunately on 23 December the game developed a loading error that basically made it unplayable for us. We were not able to Progress past the loading screen and nothing that we did - from completely removing the game and re-installing it to simply truing to load over-and-over again accomplished anything.

That said - and noting that this was frustrating and disappointing in the extreme, with the exception of the game going blam! on the day-before-the-day-before Christmas, it was still a pretty rocking and cool event!

So we hope that you had a very Merry Christmas, and that you got at least as far as we did if not farther in both the story and campaign events!

The end of the Christmas Event continued to trigger the memory and load error the first two times we tried to play, following which we received a new Splash Screen - for the New Year's 2015 Event - after which point the game appears to have loaded!

Crossing our fingers now, we will see you in the newest Special Event Section - the New Year's 2015 Special Event!
