Parental Control Limitations

Enabling Parental Controls will allow you to restrict access to some of the Nintendo 3DS's functionality that may be unsuitable for certain users. Some System Settings like Internet Settings, Outer Cameras, System Transfer and System Update can't be accessed unless the Parental Control PIN is entered.

The following settings and features will be restricted using this method:


  • Internet Browser

  • Shopping Services - Use of credit cards, prepaid cards and purchasing content online will be restricted

  • Online Interaction - Restrict exchange of data between users who are not friends. This will also affect online play. Nintendo DS software is not affected

  • Software Rating - 3DS games and DSi software will be restricted based on their ESRB ratings. Nintendo DS games won't get restricted.

  • Sharing of media files (images, audio, video)

  • Display of 3D images (recommended for users 6 years below)

  • Streetpass - The console won't be able to communicate with other StreetPass users. Nintendo DS or DSi software may not be affected.

  • Registering friends

  • DS Download Play

  • Watching distributed videos

  • Child Online Privacy Protection Obtains parental consent for the online collection, use, or disclosure of personal data from children under the age of 13.
