How to Calibrate the 3DS Camera

Published by SuperCheats Staff on Sep 2nd 2013
If Parental Control is enabled and set up to restrict the 3D feature of the camera, you won't be able to complete the calibration properly.

Automatic Calibration

  1. Go to the System Settings icon then select Other Settings.
    Guide Image

  2. Press the arrow to the right to go to the third tab. Select Outer Cameras
    Guide Image

  3. Move the 3D Depth Slider to the top then tap Next.
    Guide Image

  4. In the next screen tap "Automatic Setup" then tap Next

  5. Find an unobstructed object at a distance then center the cameras on it. It should be at least 65 feet or 20m away.

    • The subject must be brightly lit. Buildings or trees are good subjects.

    • If you're in a room smaller than 65 ft, find an outdoor subject

    • Get best results by focusing on a subject that is easily distinguishable from nearby objects.

  6. Wait for the three cameras on the screen to light up and they will be automatically calibrated.

  7. Next, focus the camera on an unobstructed subject nearby.

  8. Adjust the 3DS' distance from the subject until the image on the upper scree becomes clear and displayed in 3D.

  9. Tap Ok when the image is clear to save the settings.

Manual Calibration

Note: Manual calibration should only be done if Automatic Calibration is unavailable for some reason.

  1. Go to the System Settings icon then select Other Settings.
    Guide Image

  2. Press the arrow to the right to go to the third tab. Select Outer Cameras
    Guide Image

  3. Move the 3D Depth Slider to the top then tap Next.
    Guide Image

  4. In the next screen tap "ManualSetup" then tap Next

  5. Set the system down on a flat surface then take a photo of a simple, flat shape with a clear outline.

  6. Ajust the image via touchscreen to line up the photo and the image on the upper screen.

  7. Tap Test 3D.

  8. View something nearby to verify the calibration then press OK.
