Well, to tell the truth I'm not that good at battle tower either.

I suggest you get leftovers from either the Snorlax(in Kanto) or the eating contest place.

Lvl. 30 pokemon I guess is ok, try and teach them strong moves like from the game corner in either Goldenrod, or Celadon.

It also helps to put two type pokemon on your team. Such as executtor(grass and phycic) Tyranitar (rock and dark) etc.

And just to let you all know I beat Red with this team.2 of my pokemon were completely useless...
Megnaium lvl.60
Pigeot lvl. 50
Sucine lvl. 45
Golduck lvl. 37
Voltorb lvl. 20.. used 4 Flash
Taurus lvl. 14..Surf,Rock smash, headbutt, strength

I also had about 17 super potions, 5 revives and beat him with all my pokemon fainted and my megnaium had 21HP left...

So if you know weaknesses and have good strategy you can beat even the toughest trainers!!! P.S. My teams way better now!!

my favorite Battle Tower team is lv. 60 Tyrannitar, Dragonite, and Jolteon, but seeing as that's twice the power you want to fight with, i will move on.
you can probably fight well with a team that covers all areas of elements. I would go with:

Dragonair: Quick Claw
Thunder, Blizzard, Twister, Flamethrower
Quagsire: Miracleberry / Gold Berry
Surf, Earthquake, Dynamic Punch/Ice Punch, Toxic
Umbreon: Mysteryberry / Spell Tag / Bent Spoon
Shadow Ball, Psychic, Rest, Snore

Gold berries are very useful to give your pokemon, as are miracle berries (if you can find any) and element-boosting items. Quick Claw will be useful to give to a slow pokemon.
i would also administer a lot of supplementary items to your pokemon(carbos, HP up, etc) (you will be able to win all this back and more if you win).
another nice way to win the Battle Tower is to fight in the lv. 10 area. this is much easier because Gold Berries restore a lot more hit points (proportionally) and because attacks like Dragon Rage, which always do the same amount of damage, can knock out a pokemon with one blow. a good line-up would consist of:
Dratini: Quick Claw
Dragon Rage, Blizzard, Surf, Flamethrower
Chinchou: Magnet
Thunder, Surf, Ice Beam, Thunder Wave
Blissey: Miracleberry / Focus Band
Psychic, Dynamic Punch, Softboiled, Attract

An easy way of obtaining a lv.10 Dratini with Dragon Rage would be to breed two Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite that both know Dragon Rage. the offspring will know Dragon Rage at birth.

Blissey will be more difficult, and if you use a Game Shark it will make it much easier to obtain one on lv.10.
