You cannot clone in Red/Blue/Yellow.

Only in Gold/Silver can you clone.

I suggest that you don't attempt the cloning technique. I tried cloning a Tyranitar and it worked.

However, the Tyranitar was nicknamed Magmar for some reason.

Then, I tried cloning a Heracross and it was gone! In Gold and Silver, this technique works fine but not in Crystal.

I have a friend who said it must be boxes 1 that you deposit your Pokemon into, oh and it does have to be empty.

I'm not sure if this will work or not.

Cloning is not possible in the Red version. In the Gold, Silver, and Crystal versions it is possible to clone Pokémon and items:

  1. If you are cloning items as well, attach it to the Pokémon in your party that you want to clone.
  2. Go to a Pokémon Centre and switch your box. It is preferable to switch to a vacant box; if the box is occupied, the cloned Pokémon may take on the name of another Pokémon in the box.
  3. Deposit the Pokémon in the new box.
  4. Switch to another box. When the dialog finishes the message 'SAVING...DON'T TURN OFF THE POWER', immediately turn off the console.
  5. Turn the console back on. The Pokémon should appear both in your party and in the box into which it was deposited.
To Spideraman99: Next time, clone to a vacant box. The box that you cloned to had a Magmar in it.

Actually, you can clone in crystal.

Well, there could be 2 reasons. One is that you dont have the correct timing, maybe you are turning off the power to fast or to slow. Another thing is that you dont have to clone in the boxes that the cheats tell you to. I can clone in any box I want, but my friend can only clone in box 8 or 9.

Once you get the hang of it it's very easy, so keep trying with, like, level 2 rattatas or something. That's what I did and now I can clone almost anything.

It does work but swich to box 14 then swich to box 9 and make sure they are empty. Oh and save in front of the pc in case your pokemon disapers.and when it says SAVING...DO NOT TURN OFF POWER as soon it is done count to 2 quickly then turn it off and don't wait and turn it on turn it off and on at the same time.
