Mew & Mewtwo

The next two Legendary Pokemon are among the most iconic Pokemon in the history of the franchise: Mew and Mewtwo. Mewtwo is the fourth Legendary Pokemon in numerical order, while Mew is the first official Mythical Pokemon.

The Duo is nicknamed as such since both Pokemon are of similar genetics. The origin of Mewtwo goes that it was genetically created to be a clone of the rare Pokemon Mew, but the cloning process didn't go quite as plan. Mewtwo was created, a much more powerful Pokemon than its technical parent. Mewtwo eventually broke away from where it was cloned, later joining Giovanni before living on its own. But even with being cloned from Mew and obviously coming second with the reference in its name, Mewtwo still appears first in the National Pokedex.

Mewtwo for the longest while was the most difficult Pokemon to catch. In the earlier Games, it took a lot just to unlock access to the Cerulean Cave, but that didn't compare to when in battle with this creature. Mew, on the other hand, was hardily known about, and wouldn't be until -- shocking -- the third generation when it was released as an Event.

Mew was the first ever straight 100 Base in every category, while Mewtwo had a different mix that focused more in Speed and Special Attack. To this day, Mewtwo, along with it's not one but two Mega Evolutions, is still one the best Special Sweepers (a Pokemon that can destroy teams using its Special attack Ability) in Competitive Play.

Mew has NEVER been obtainable in-game (unless you count the Faraway Island Event back in Third Generation where you received a ticket to find Mew in-game), while Mewtwo has been available in a number of Games.

#150 - Mewtwo: Mewtwo was first obtainable back in Pokemon Red, Blue & Yellow. It could be found deep within Cerulean Cave at the incredible Level of 70, but only after a trainer had finished just about every other aspect of the game. Mewtwo made a return in the remakes of these Games back in third generation of Pokemon, and is found in the exact same way. It was also found in the second generation remakes of Heart Gold & Soul Silver; again, it was found in the same location. Mewtwo would then not make a return until Pokemon X/Y, when it could be found after the main storyline and defeating the Elite Four in the Unknown Dungeon off the Pokemon Village. Mewtwo has also been involved in a number of events.

#151 - Mew: To this very day, the only way to obtain Mew is by a Pokemon Event (thus its Mythical Label). Aforementioned, Mew could be found in-game on Faraway Island back in the third generation, but only when you had obtained the Event Ticket to the Island. It was at Level 30, and you literally had to chase it around the island before you could battle it. This still remains the only way to catch a Shiny Mew, but only on a Japanese Version of Pokemon Emerald.
