Z-Moves

Another New concept of attacking in the Seventh Generation is tthat of Z-Moves. Z-Moves are especially strong Attacks, useable with the harnessed power of Z-Crystal and a Z-Ring. Each Z-Crystal is a given type - a player will obtain and find all of them throughout the game - and it provides a Z-Move for the same given type of move if said Pokemon has that typ of move and is holding its corresponding Z-Crystal. Some Z-Moves and Z-Crystal are exclusive to one given Pokemon.

Z-Moves aren't usually set as whether or not they are a Physical or Special Attack, as well as not having a set Base Power. Instead, damage is calculated on the Base Move that is used. One example of this is Gigavolt Havoc: if used off the base move of Nuzzle, it will be a Physical Attack (like Nuzzle) with a strength of only 100; if used off the base move of Thunderbolt, it will be a Special Attack (like Thunderbolt) with a base power now of 175.

But there are a few restrictions to Z-Moves, much like Mega Evolutions. To start, only one Z-Move can be used by only one Pokemon per Battle. Said Pokemon, aforementioned, must also know a move of the same given type of Z-Crystal (you can't use Grassium Z on a Water Type Attack). Z-Moves also break through the move Protect, but at the cost of 25% of the Max Damage of such.
