Pokemon Moon begins like all other Pokemon Games, with the Professor of the region getting all the basic information on your Character. In The Alola Region, this is done by Professor Kukui, a young and hip man that studies both Pokemon and their Moves and abilities. Unlike other Pokemon Games that do this in a generic sort of fashion, Kukui does this over a video call with you, since you are in the process of packing to move to the Alola Region. You will then be able to choose the name of your character, as well as then the sex and race of such. Right after this, the call with end and you mother will ask for your assistance.

The game will then immediately cut to the scene of a mysterious girl a top secret building of sorts. She seems out of place, with something hiding within her gym bag, as she tries to get away from a number of guards in hot pursuit of her. But soon she becomes trapped with guards on all side of her, where then, out of nowhere, her bags begins to glow. This aura soon covers the girl, before both her and her bag being transported out straight out of the building. The Title Screen will then appear.

The screen is then cut to black, telling the layer that three months have now past. The trainer and their mother have just arrived in The Alola Region, and soon Professor Kukui comes to visit them. He explains that it is Time for the player to receive their first Pokemon from the Kahuna, and after going back to their room to get their bag and supplies, the trainer will leave with the Professor.

As you follow Kukui, it will soon become apparent that the Kahuna is not there. Kukui will ask you to go check for the Kahuna in the trail just north of the Trial area. Follow the path, and you will quickly see the mysterious girl up ahead of you. As you follow her, a Pokemon will soon jump out of her bag, the Pokemon called Cosmog nicknamed "Nebby." Nebby will quickly find trouble with a pack of Spearow, and the girl will quickly ask for your help.

As you try to save little Nebby, it will once again try to teleport, but the blast from it causes the bridge to collapse and the two of you to fall to your doom. But just before danger strikes, a Pokemon, the Island Guardian Deity known as Tapu Koko, will come to your rescue. After such, the Deity will leave and the girl, who you will soon find out goes by the name of Lille and is the Professor's Assistance, will thank you with a Sparkling Stone. The two of you will then return to the Trial area.

Just after arriving back, the Kahuna, the one know as Hala, will finally show up and let you pick from the Alola Starters. After selecting your partner, the custom of the island will require it to in turn choose you as their trainer. But don't worry, this is a guarantee for any of the three you select. You will then be allowed to nickname you buddy, as well as receive the Passport and Pokedex from Kukui.

From there, you will go to show your Pokemon to your mother. However, as you try to leave, another mysterious character will appear and challenge you to a Pokemon Battle. His name is Hau, and he will be the main rival to your character in the game. He is really outgoing, sometimes getting ahead of himself in all his enjoyment. His only Pokemon is the Alola Starter your Starter is weak to, making for a very easy defeat.

After defeating Hau, Hala will ask to look at your Sparkling Stone, promising to give it back with you tomorrow evening. Kukui will then invite you to the Festival happening the next day. The game will then cut to another black screen informing you a day has now passed.
