Black Marketeers are shady merchants hidden in various secluded locations in the game. They sell and purchase pals - that also includes any humans you manage to catch. On the bright side, you can purchase some of the uncommon and rare Pals early in the playthrough that are normally found in high-level areas. In this page, we will discuss the various locations where you can find these pal merchants.
There are a total of 12 black marketeers scattered around different regions in the currently available map. We will just provide the coordinates below. Just in case you're not familiar with how to use the coordinates, simply open your map and look at the lower-left corner. The two numbers there will change values in real-time as you move your cursor on the map. If you want to mark a location to visit later, you can just add a custom marker as well.
All coordinates below are just as close approximations as we possibly can. You can try zooming the map a bit to get a more granular view with the coordinates. You can also use the map that we provided below alongside the chart of the marketeer locations. Marketeers don't wander around so you'll find them in their original positions.
So far, the most accessible Black Marketeer is located inside a mine shaft under the rocky outcrop west of the Desolate Church teleporter (36, -427). This is a particularly low-level area and near the default starting point for players. Not only that, you don't need to navigate through difficult terrain. The only downside however, is getting back to the nearest teleporter after transacting with the merchant can be a hassle without a Mount.
The merchant is located inside a mine. The entrance has torchlights that will guide you to the entrance so it's hard to miss. The mine itself is pitch black so if you don't have the Hip Lantern crafted yet, make sure to bring a torch to navigate the tunnels. The path is straightforward anyway so there's no danger of getting lost.
As mentioned, the Black Marketeer sells random Pals, some of them can be uncommon and rare. Of course these are not cheap; it's highly likely that you won't be able to afford the pals he sells until you're past the mid-game (unless you know how to effectively earn gold). The pals he sells will also reset after a while so it's worth visiting him often.
You can also offload unwanted pals (usually those without good Passives) or if you're heartless enough, even Sick or injured pals. You can conveniently access all pals stored in your boxes remotely and sell them to the marketeer. The prices will differ based on the rarity of the pal you sold. You can sell pals by batch as well. And by selling pals, that also includes any humans or human enemies you've captured.
Of course, Black Marketeers are NPCs too and they're also susceptible to being captured. However, expect them to put up a fight. Black Marketeers are always around LV40, equipped with a minigun, and they can even summon an equally leveled pal as their companion. If you're planning to capture a Black Marketeer, make sure you're really prepared and bring high-level pals as well to do the work.
All that trouble is worth it, however. While you can deploy a Black Marketeer in your base to help with his pathetic LV1 Handiwork work skill, the main value here is that you have a personal merchant at your own convenience. Even after getting captured, you can still talk to the marketeer normally to access his inventory and sell pals.
Once you're done with the transaction, you can return him to your Palbox and just summon him again if you need his services. Doing this cycle of returning to the Palbox and re-summoning him resets his inventory of Pals. However, just because you captured a Black Marketeer doesn't mean that you'll get access to his pal inventory for free. You still have to pay the full price without any discount.
