Palpagos Island is quite expansive with lots of different biomes to explore, with varying elevations, across plains, forests, and bodies of water. Exploring these locations on foot is possible but quite tedious and even if you have traversal gear like Grappling Guns and Gliders, using a Mount is the most efficient way of freely exploring the land. In this article, we will list down all Pals in the game that can be used as Mounts for various purposes.
Mounts are Pals that can carry you on their backs for traveling and/or combat. Not all Pals can be mounts; for obvious reasons, only medium and large-sized pals can be used as mounts. And even if a Pal can be mounted, they're not going to be equal as well. Some Pals are faster, (perfect for exploration), some Pals give you access to excessively powerful weapons as their Partner skill, while most will allow you to use your own weapons while mounted.
To mount a Pal, you need the following things:
For Pals with unlocked saddles (or mounted weapons for example), you need to first add the Pal to your party then bring it outside its sphere. In the bottom-middle of the screen, you'll see the prompt or key assignment to ride the pal. For the PC for example, you need to press and hold the [F] key. To dismount, you just need to press the same command. When you're on a flying mount, you can even dismount while in the air, allowing you to free fall and glide to safety. Sometimes, this is faster than descending with your mount.
So far, flying mounts are universally the most useful. While mounted on a flying Pal, your stamina will get depleted steadily as you ascend, descend, or when you fly faster. Some flying mounts can hover over water without issues so you can even cross large bodies of water as if you're running on land. On a ground or swimming mount, your base running speed is significantly improved and the only time your stamina will only get depleted is if you go faster.
Some mounts also have bonus effects that they provide to the player while riding them. For example, some mounts can change the player's attack type to a different element, some mounts can either keep the player warm or cool in snowy or desert environments, some pals can boost the drop rates of certain elemental pals to name a few.
On mounts without weapons, you'll also gain access to its attacks. For the PC, you can do this by using LMB (left mouse click), [E], and [C] keys.
If you have a ranged weapon equipped, you need to zoom using your weapon since you can't use hip-firing while mounted. For mounts that have their own weapons like Grizzbolt and Relaxaurus, zooming (right-click hold for the PC) allows you to fire their mounted minigun and missile launcher respectively.
In this section, we will discuss the different Mount pals in the game, separated by category. We will also arrange the pals based on the Technology Level when you can acquire them.

These mounts replace your glider. As long as you have them included in your party, they'll automatically deploy as your glider when you press the jump button twice. As you increase the Pal's levels, their base gliding speed increases while the stamina consumption and fall rate while gliding decreases. If you have space in your party, having glider pals at the ready is great for exploration in tandem with flying mounts, allowing you to explore more areas and terrains more effectively. All gliding mounts have the same Pal Gear Type (Gloves).
