In keeping with the path that we have been following it feels almost natural for us to simply go with the choice that is in the bottom right corner. But before we do that, we should review what we have to choose from for this Series in this new Volume:

- Modern GT Racing

- Global Touring Cars

- V8 Supercars

- Formula E

- Early GT Racing

- Historic Sportscar Racing

The list has several very attractive options, including a few - the V8 Supercars and Modern GT Racing - that promise some very fast racing. That said, after reviewing the car selections for each of the classes we opted (not surprisingly) for the Historic Sportscar Racing - and not JUST because we already own cars that are eligible for that class.

Richard Hammond sets up the premise for this new class of racing and then we get to see what we can choose from. We already had the 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II and the 1961 Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage in our garages - and there IS a special place in our heart for the GT40, but a peak at the rest of the possible choices sort of discombobulates that.

- 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR (1,938,950 Cr.)

- 1956 Jaguar D-Type (1,551,600 Cr.)

- 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa (1,958,400 Cr.)

- 1957 Maserati 300 S (1,052,000 Cr.)

- 1958 Aston Martin DBR1 (1,947,850 Cr.)

- 1961 Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage (1,533,950 Cr.)

- 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO (2,045,050 Cr.)

- 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 (702,200 Cr.)

- 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C (936,500 Cr.)

- 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe (1,833,450 Cr.)

- 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II (928,100 Cr.)

- 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 (1,801,300 Cr.)

- 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400 (490,900 Cr.)

- 1968 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale (1,611,600 Cr.)

- 1968 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 (336,400 Cr.)

How do you choose from this list? It can't be by cost at this point as you should have plenty of banked Credits... It can't be by Affinity - because even if you have maxed out the Affinity for a specific manufacturer, when you are presented with this sort of choice well, you have to go with your gut and what appeals to you, right?

In the end that is the entire point - you have to choose the one that calls out to you - and for us, believe it or not, that was the 1957 Maserati 300 S. Whoa momma!

So getting this show on the road, we begin with the Stormfront Shootout, with 5 racing events, having chosen the '57 Maserati 300 S in the A675 class.

Stormfront Shootout

Series 10 of 15 - 5 Races

Recommended Cars

Bear in mind that this is purely subjective and based upon a combination of our own and other racer experience. Clearly YMMV but the suggested cars below are competitive for this Series.

    - Modern GT Racing

    - 2014 Ferrari #51 AF Corse 458 Italia GTE

    - 2013 SRT #91 SRT Motorsport GTS-R

    - Global Touring Cars

    - 2014 Volvo #13 Volvo Polestar Racing S60 STCC

    - 2014 BMW #5 eBay Motors 125i M Sport

    - V8 Supercars

    - 2015 Mercedes-Benz #9 Erebus Motorsport E63 AMG V8 Supercar

    - 2015 Holden #97 Tekno Autosports VF Commodore

    - Formula E

    - All cars are equal so pick the one you own.

    - All cars are equal so pick the one you own.

    - Early GT Racing

    - 1975 BMW #93 Herve Poulain 3.0 CSL

    - 1982 Ferrari #71 Ferrari France 512 BB/LM

    - Historic Sportscar Racing

    - 1966 Ford GT40 Mk I

    - 1957 Maserati 300 S

The first Series is broken down into five unique races:

Race 1: Le Mans Circuit de la Sarthe

* TRACK: Bugatti Circuit (5 Laps). 2.60 MI/L

* SERIES: Stormfront Shootout.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 Positions. for a 13,000 Cr. Purse.

Recommended Mod Cards

Each course can be made easier by using specific Mod Cards. If you do not presently own the version of a card we recommend, use the next version down that you do own. The recommended Cards for this track are:

(1) Braking Engineer +20% Braking +5% Power (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

Braking and Grip take precedence over Power for this track. That said, adding at least some Power to this is strategically significant.

This was all kinds of nasty thanks to the rain, the standing water, and the need to completely alter your track tactics for this race! Wow! But if you brought your A-Game and you made few mistakes, you should easily dominate this track. Well, assuming you managed to avoid getting pinned at the starting two turns that is.

Race 2: Nurburgring

* TRACK: Nurburgring GP (4 Laps). 3.20 MI/L

* SERIES: Stormfront Shootout.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

(1) Grip Engineer +12% Grip +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

This is a highly technical track that benefits significantly from close attention to your driving - mistakes here are costly. The best Strategy is to increase Grip and Brakes as much as you can manage.

Coming off of the Bugatti Circuit to land here, at Nurburgring in the rain? Well, it IS the Stormfront Shootout after all! But still, this is basically a repeat of the need to really dial down your aggro in the curves, and to take care in keeping yourself out of the press so you do not get pinning at the outset.

The biggest two challenges by far for this course are understeer caused by being too greedy with your throttle, and losing full control when hitting standing water. That said, though, as long as you can obtain a comfortable lead you should have little trouble maintaining that thanks to the overall difficult conditions for everyone on this track!

Completing this race unlocks the Showcase Event Moments in Motorsports: 1960s Grand Prix Legends.

Race 3: Sebring International Raceway

* TRACK: Sebring Full (4 Laps). 3.70 MI/L

* SERIES: Stormfront Shootout.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 Positions. for a 12,000 Cr. Purse.

Recommended Mod Cards

Each course can be made easier by using specific Mod Cards. If you do not presently own the version of a card we recommend, use the next version down that you do own. The recommended Cards for this track are:

(1) Grip Engineer +12% Grip +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

This track benefits from having increased power - BUT - the rain and subsequent standing water means that while we do want to add power, it is not the primary criteria and issue for this race - Grip is. Which is why the primary choice for cards is the Grip Engineer card.

Not our favorite track to run in the rain to be sure, but there are far worse, and this one has the bonus of a long high-speed run and relatively forgiving turns for the most part. So hey, bring your A-Game and kick some butt mates! If not that than at least hold your own...

Race 4: Brands Hatch

* TRACK: Brands Hatch GP (6 Laps). 2.43 MI/L

* SERIES: Stormfront Shootout.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 Positions. for a 11,000 Cr.

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Elite Grid Position +4 Grid Position (Super Rare) Boost/Green (or best you have)

Due to the design of this track moving up your position in the grid will help a lot because its width and path promote a number of bunching spots where the pack gets tight. That is bad as it allows the leaders to gain significant distance. Hence the need to move up in the grid if possible.

And here we are at another track that is particularly challenging in the wet. Fair enough, you might be thinking, but listen... We could NOT get our car out of second gear for the ENTIRE race?! Seriously, at one point we are doing 120 MPH - IN SECOND GEAR!

1982 Lancia 037 Stradale
1982 Lancia 037 Stradale

And for that reason, the recommended music for this race is: Beep Beep by The Playmates.

Race 5: Silverstone

* TRACK: Silverstone GP (4 Laps). 3.19 MI/L

* SERIES: Stormfront Shootout.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

This track is another instance where you need to have some added Power, but you also need to offset that by added Brake and Grip else it will get you into trouble.

Completing this one also completes the Series, and unlocks the Redline Showdown Series (11 of 15).

    - Historic Sportscar Racing

    - 1966 Ford GT40 Mk I

    - 1957 Maserati 300 S

The second Series is broken down into six unique races:

Race 1: Indianapolis Motor Speedway

* TRACK: The Brickyard Speedway Oval (8 Laps). 2.50 MI/L

* SERIES: Redline Showdown.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 Positions. for a 11,000 Cr. Purse.

Recommended Mod Cards

Each course can be made easier by using specific Mod Cards. If you do not presently own the version of a card we recommend, use the next version down that you do own. The recommended Cards for this track are:

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power -5% Weight (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

This is probably the one track that every race fan, racer, and Forza Faithful has no need to have explained to them because this is the track that appears in our dreams. Well, this and the Tri-Oval at Daytona but still... For this one we need a small amount of Brakes and Grip and as much Power and Weight Reduction as we can manage and still stay on the track! Yeah!

With an average lap time of 1 minute and the relief of finally being able to get through the entire gear set for the car, The Brickyard offers up the chance to really put your car through its paces.

Race 2: Road America

* TRACK: Road America (4 Laps). 4.05 MI/L

* SERIES: Redline Showdown.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

1997 Land Rover Defender 90
1997 Land Rover Defender 90

Despite the relatively short length of the course, and its plentiful collection of curves and turns, this is a track that will benefit from boosted speed, braking, and grip, in that order.

This race was a turning point, as for the first time maintaining the lead and dominating the course was a real struggle. No matter how many times that I re-raced this, the same basic effect happened and I found myself struggling to keep ahead of a pair of Drivatars - and they were not always the same two either.

Sure, the starting pack and breaking out of it was harder than usual - we put that down to the course - but the struggle to take first and then keep it? How odd is that?

Completing this one unlocks the Showcase Event Passing Challenge: Bugatti Veyiron Challenge.

Race 3: Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps

* TRACK: Circuit de Spa (4 Laps). 4.35 MI/L

* SERIES: Redline Showdown.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 Positions. for a 14,000 Cr.

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

For this course there is no question at all when it comes to Mod Card Strategy - you need lots of Brakes and lots of Grip. While there are in fact some speed zones here, the bottom line is that you are not very likely to work through your entire gear range on them, so put Speed out of your mind for this one.

Here is another race that, considering the Series that we are doing and the point to it, which is to go as fast as you can, they picked a pretty odd track for it... One that I admit was a struggle to dominate. Due to the issues that cropped up when we did the guide for FM5 we decided not to include the Tuning process in the individual races, but to handle it as a separate issue.

The point to that was that you really have to know what you are doing when you start playing with the tune of your ride. That said, we found that dominating this track was simply not possible without tweaking the tune on our ride. It really should not be that way - we are not saying you cannot finish in the Top 3 without Tuning your ride, but first? That is going to require some serious luck.

So with that in mind, mates, listen... If you are committed to racing in FM and are willing to learn Tuning we say go for it. If you are just not there with your racing, that is cool too, but if that is the case, you may want to think about looking for some custom tunes on the storefront for improving your chosen ride. We are just saying...

Race 4: Daytona International Speedway

* TRACK: Tri-Oval Circuit (10 Laps). 2.50 MI/L

* SERIES: Redline Showdown.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 Positions. for a 10,000 Cr.

Like the Brickyard in Indianapolis the Tri-Oval needs no Introduction, or likely requires explanation for the need for Power, Weight Reduction, Grip or Braking. But there you have it.

Now this is more like it! Big sort of round and go go go fast surface! Yeah mates, now we are talking!

Fourth gear, 180 MPH, 49 second laps, this is how you race a bloody car!

Completing this one unlocks the Showcase Event Factory Spec Racing: Brands Hatch Radical SR8 RX Cup!

Race 5: Mount Panorama Circuit

* TRACK: Bathurst (4 Laps). 3.86 MI/L

* SERIES: Redline Showdown.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

For most racers the real challenge for this course is the complex set of turns at its southern end. If you are going to have trouble, that is where it is going to happen. Despite the largely speed-oriented bulk of the track then, Braking is actually a more strategic move here. Which is why our Mod Card Strategy is divided into those two camps.

1997 Lexus SC300
1997 Lexus SC300

Another odd choice for this class of racing, and yet when we look at the strange track shifts so far, it almost makes sense. Almost...

You know how some races are very satisfying? How you feel when you finish them like you really accomplished something? Yeah, well, I did not feel anything even remotely like that here. In fact this race, with this class of car left me feeling cold and very dissatisfied. Like it was work, and a waste of time.

That said, ultimately when we ran, and then re-ran it, we came to the realization that it required a completely different driving focus to make this work. Clearly though, it was a focus that did NOT belong in this Series. To bad, so sad, right? Ah well.

Race 6: Le Mans Circuit de la Sarthe

* TRACK: Le Mans Classic (2 Laps). 8.44 MI/L

* SERIES: Redline Showdown.

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

Power and Brake are your go-to for this tack - but adding a little Grip and reducing the Weight a little will also be beneficial, so if you lack the exact cards we recommend, try a different combination that will give the same effects.

Now this is more like it. This is just the sort of track that was made for this type of racing with this type of car!

Completing this race also completes the Series and unlocks the final Series for this Volume, the Southern U.S. Tour Series 12 of 15).

The third Series is broken down into six unique races: While we are sticking with the Historic Sportscar Racing class, there really is no reason you cannot change cars inside whatever series you are racing if you like, but we are sticking with our Maserati!

Race 1: Long Beach

* TRACK: Full Circuit (6 Laps). 1.97 MI/L

* SERIES: Southern U.S. Tour

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

(1) Braking Engineer +20% Braking +6% Grip (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Rotor Heat Displacement +4% Braking (Common) Boost/Green

Here we have a track that has no benefit from adding power but that really highly benefits from better braking and the grip in that order.

Despite this being a relatively short course, it is a very fast one, and perfect for this class of racing! Yeah. We like.

Race 2: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

* TRACK: Laguna Seca (6 Laps). 2.24 MI/L

* SERIES: Southern U.S. Tour

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 Positions. for a 13,000 Cr. Purse.

Recommended Mod Cards

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

This is another track that requires control over speed. Focus on Grip and Brakes, and your driving of course.

Another really fast and relatively short course that works very well for this class of racing...

Completing this race unlocks the Showcase Event Endurance Racing: Indianapolis 250.

Race 3: Road Atlanta

* TRACK: Road Atlanta (6 Laps). 2.54 MI/L

* SERIES: Southern U.S. Tour

2010 Lexus LFA

Recommended Mod Cards

Each course can be made easier by using specific Mod Cards. If you do not presently own the version of a card we recommend, use the next version down that you do own. The recommended Cards for this track are:

(1) Braking Engineer +20% Braking +5% Power (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Enhanced Intake Flow +3% Power (Common) Boost/Green

The unique combination of fast-runs and turns require some emphasis on Power and Braking. Saving a little weight will also help.

And yet another track that is perfect for this style of racing. See they disappointed us with Bathurst but then they gave us a bunch that are pure fun to drive. And how cool is that?

Race 4: Sebring International Raceway

* TRACK: Sebring Full (4 Laps). 3.70 MI/L

* SERIES: Southern U.S. Tour

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power +6% Grip (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

This track benefits from having increased power. Which is why the primary choice for cards is Power with the secondary being Grip...

Now that's good luck mates - two really fun tracks to race in a row!

Completing this race unlocks the Showcase Event TopGear Stig 1-1: Koenigsegg Agera You Vs. The Stig. So yeah, that happened.

Race 5: Daytona International Speedway

* TRACK: Daytona Infield (6 Laps). 2.94 MI/L

* SERIES: Southern U.S. Tour

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

Despite the relatively short length of the track, its layout represents an emphasis on long high-speed runs, broken up by a set of complex turns. That being the case you will find that Speed and then Braking and Grip are the best mod you can do to gain the greater edge.

And the hits just keep rolling in! Sebring gets followed up by Daytona, though actually it IS the Infield course and not the Oval, but still, it IS Daytona, and it is even during the daytime on a dry track! Yup, we can always go for that!

Race 6: Circuit of the Americas

* TRACK: COTA GP (4 Laps). 3.42 MI/L

* SERIES: Southern U.S. Tour

* DIVISION: Historic Sportscar Racing

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

For this course the emphasis must be on Brakes and Grip with some Power thrown in to balance out the long stretches where that can be handy..

We could easily have picked worse tracks than COTA for the blow-off race for this Series - just saying. But hey, we got COTA, a course whose curves can only be descibed as nasty and whose turns? Well, those are mostly heart-breaking.

That said, the only workable Strategy here is to get out ahead as fast as you can manage it, then be VERY aggressive in the turns until you build up a lead of say, 3,000 feet or better. Then you can race reasonable and still come out on top!

Completing this race completes the Series, and the Volume, which means you also unlock the next Volume, Ultimate Motorsports (Volume 5). Well done!
