Above you will find that this WTG begins with an official SuperCheats Welcome to every racer we have raced in the game so far - in their native language! At least in the language that was indicated by their Gamertag ID Card in the game (we check and record that at the start of every race).

If we raced with you -- our Gamertags are Recnef / Swash01 / YvonneBF -- and either missed your nationality and language or you feel like we did, please be sure to let us know by commenting below and we WILL correct that! Because everyone deserves to be recognized! Every Gamer Counts!

This is our Walkthrough Guide to the Story-Mode Campaign for Forza Motorsport 6. In it we offer you, in addition to the while reference slash guide consultation capabilities, the benefits of our wisdom for each unique situation that you will encounter, and in particular for each race and its track.

We include every trick or hint that we feel you may find helpful, and of course you also have our cheerful and unlimited friendship (what we call mateship). So hey, have fun! Because remember, this is a game, and it's about having FUN!

NB:

Recommended Race Music is included free of charge in each race listing to help you set the proper mood for each race, and to replace the generic background sound. Just our way of saying to you - hey! We heard you like to have fun?! Well here is some fun to have with your fun while you are having fun!

If you don't happen to own a song or three from our recommendations, we suggest you hook some headphones up to your notebook or smartphone then point your browser at YouTube and play them from there. That worked for us!

The new chapter includes sunny and rainy for weather, day and night for setting

- = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = * @ * = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = -

For the first opening volume/series - which is the ONLY one unlocked - you get to pick from the following six car sub-types, which will then dictate the races/path you will follow moving forward:

  1. Compact Sport Coupe

  2. Hot Hatchbacks

  3. Ultimate SPOCOM

  4. Japanese Street Kings

  5. Rally Day Heroes

  6. Classic Compacts

Basically these Volumes ARE the Story Campaign, and you must pick what you like here - it should not alter too much - as eventually we do all of them anyway, since once you finish your first run through the entire Campaign you will then learn that that was only the beginning, and you can then repeat the entire process using a different sub-type of car for what end up being interesting and alternative experiences. Seriously!

That being the case then, all this choice impacts is the order in which we do them!

For the purposes of the Walkthrough we chose the Classic Compact sub-class, after which Top Gear's James May then briefed us, sharing his special knowledge about this sort of racing car, and then we were presented with the stable for the sub-class, which consisted of:

  • 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA Stradale (77,700 Cr.)

  • 1966 Ford Lotus Cortina (53,550 Cr.)

  • 1967 Volvo 123GT (43,300 Cr.)

  • 1968 Lancia Fulvia Coupe Rallye 1.6 HF (40,650)

  • 1969 Nissan Fairlady Z 432 (71,850 Cr.)

  • 1969 Toyota 2000GT (98,650Cr.).

  • 1970 Datsun 510 (37,650 Cr.)

  • 1971 Lotus Elan Sprint (42,300 Cr.)

  • 1971 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R (40,950)

  • 1972 Mazda Cosmo 110S Series II (62,450)

  • 1973 BMW 2002 Turbo (31,000 Cr.)

  • 1973 Ford Capri RS3100 (44,250 Cr.)

  • 1973 Mazda RX-3 (33,100)

  • 1974 Toyota Celica GT (36,650 Cr.)

  • 1975 Fiat X1/9 (42,350 Cr.)

  • 1977 Ford Escort RS1800 (77,300 Cr.)

  • 1980 Abarth Fiat 131 (51,850 Cr.)

The list above presents a wide selection of Classic Compacts that were all at or very nearly at E300. While there were plenty of good choices here, we can choose only one - and we were understandably torn between the '73 Capri and the '71 Elan.

The conflict and internal turmoil was nearly unbearable but in the end we went with a random red coupe that turned out to be a 1968 Lancia Fulvia Coupe Rallye 1.6 HF - as that turned out to be as good a reason as any!

Super Street

The first Volume is broken down into three unique racing series:

1. Challenger Series (Series 1 of 15) 4 Races

When you enter the series you are prompted to purchase a car from the list (assuming you do not already own a qualifying car that is). We went with the Capri, as noted above - and paid down its purchase price, and then picked a livery and started the challenge straight away!

Recommended Cars

Bear in mind that this is purely subjective and based upon a combination of our own and other racer experience. Clearly YMMV but the suggested cars below are competitive for this Series.

  1. Compact Sport Coupe

    - 1995 Toyota MR2 GT

    - 1992 Nissan Silvia CLUB K's

  2. Japanese Street Kings

    - 1995 Toyota MR2 GT

    - 1992 Nissan Silvia CLUB K's

  3. Hot Hatchbacks

    - 2010 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3

    - 2011 Peugeot 308 GTI

  4. Rally Day Heroes

    - 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR

    - 2015 Subaru WRX STI

  5. Ultimate SPOCOM

    - 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

    - 2010 Audi TT RS Coupe

  6. Classic Compacts

    - 1966 Ford Lotus Cortina

    - 1969 Nissan Fairlady Z 432

2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

The first Series is broken down into four unique races:

Race 1: Watkins Glen U.S.A.

* TRACK: Full Circuit (2 Laps). 3.37 MI/L

* SERIES: Challenger Series.

* DIVISION: Classic Compact.

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 Positions. / 5,600 Cr. Purse.

Recommended Mod Cards

Each course can be made easier by using specific Mod Cards. If you do not presently own the version of a card we recommend, use the next version down that you do own. The recommended Cards for this track are:

(1) Braking Engineer +20% Braking +6% Grip (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Increased Sway Bar Stiffness +3% Grip (Common) Boost/Green

The reason you choose to increase Braking and Grip is due to the type of course, which has short runs and lots of turns that demand better grip and braking. Adding power in this situation would not help you.

- = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = * @ * = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = -

Note: After I completed this series driving the Lancia Fulvia I concluded that while it is a very nice car in general, it was my opinion that it was not a very good choice for this style of racing, and so for the next series I chose a different car (you can do that), deciding that the 1966 Ford Lotus Cortina was a better choice.

Since I was replacing the car - and to retain a feeling of continuity - I decided to go ahead and re-race the first series both to see whether or not I was right in thinking that the Cortina would be a better choice , and as I had just raced these courses I would have a fresher comparison. WOW was I right! The Corina is, in every respect, way better than the Fulvia in my opinion. Just saying.

- = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = * @ * = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = -

This track is both hilly and curvy, but it has lots of wide spots and the curves are very forgiving, so it will not present that great a technical challenge for you.

That said, you need to pay attention at the final turn before the straightaway to the finish line - because almost instantly just the turn is where the entrance to the Pits are, and if you are not paying attention it looks like you could easily end up entering the Pits and that would be a disaster!

Race 2: Sebring International Raceway U.S.A.

* TRACK: Full Circuit (2 Laps) 3.70 MI/L

* SERIES: Challenger Series.

* DIVISION: Classic Compact.

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 / 6,200 Cr. Purse

* Recommended Race Music: Conteo Don Omar Tokyo Drift

Recommended Mod Cards

Each course can be made easier by using specific Mod Cards. If you do not presently own the version of a card we recommend, use the next version down that you do own. The recommended Cards for this track are:

(1) Grip Engineer +12% Grip +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

This track benefits from having increased power - BUT - the rain and subsequent standing water means that while we do want to add power, it is not the primary criteria and issue for this race - Grip is. Which is why the primary choice for cards is the Grip Engineer card.

This will be your first race in the rain - and while Sebring is not really that challenging a course under normal circumstances, you are probably going to discover that in the rain? Yeah, challenging. Well at least in terms of getting first. If you are willing to accept second or third tho, then not so much.

Race 3: Long Beach U.S.A.

* TRACK: East Route (4 Laps) 1.34 MI/L

* SERIES: Challenger Series.

(3) Rotor Heat Displacement +4% Braking (Common) Boost/Green

Here we have a track that has no benefit from adding power but that really highly benefits from better braking and the grip in that order.

This is a tight and fast race with some brisk cornering. If you are still using the auto-brakes and gas settings for your assists, you may find that it is impossible to place in the top 3 with this race. And besides that, at a bare minimum mates, you should be managing your own brakes anyway. After all what kind of racing is it when the car takes care of the brakes for you?

The basic strategies for this track are really very simple. The first three turns can be manged with minor braking combined with a bit of drift slewing, but after that speed is the issue until you get to the last turn before the straight run to the finish line - which is about as severe a turn as you are likely to find in racing.

What that means is that you basically need to crawl around this corner, because its setup is brutal. The best Strategy seems to be to try to open a gap of at least three or four car lengths between you and your closest following opponent so that you can make the turn without being overtaken. Remember THEY have to deal with the same difficult turn that YOU do.

If you follow this advice you really should have no issues. And you also should not have to worry about the opponent in front of you because you should be able to get into the Number 1 slot BEFORE you complete the first lap. Just saying.

You need to finish in the top 3 to pass this one.

Race 4: Prague C.R.

* TRACK: Full Reverse (2 Laps) 3.51 M/L

* SERIES: Challenger Series.

* DIVISION: Classic Compact.

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 / 5,800 Cr. Purse

* Recommended Race Music: Krazy PitBull - Lil Jon

Recommended Mod Cards

Each course can be made easier by using specific Mod Cards. If you do not presently own the version of a card we recommend, use the next version down that you do own. The recommended Cards for this track are:

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power +12% Braking (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Flat Out +3% Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Enhanced Intake Flow +3% Power (Common) Boost/Green

This one is a bit unusual in that while it has a sufficient number of hard curves and turns, it also possesses a sufficient length of high-speed runs that pretty much make adding power for this one a must.

This course is hilly and curvy - which is a good thing since you know, that is where you do most of your passing. Getting into the top 3 is required to pass this one, and while you are about it, learning to corner as fast as you can manage is a good idea too.

Bearing in mind that this particular course is one of the ones where having good drifting skills is a bonus, you should not find it too challenging assuming that you are in full control of your car that is. This is the final race for the series, so it is time to move on to the next one.

Note: By now you likely have obtained Affinity Level 25 for one manufacturer and obtained the special Mod Card. Did you notice that that Mod Card only applies to THAT manufacturer? Yeah, but you can get it or others by hitting 25 Affinity with them too!

2. Club Circuit Series (Series 2 of 15) 5 Races

When you enter this series you are once again allowed to choose from the available car sub-classes. While you do not have to use the exact same car, it is a really good idea to use the same sub-type for reasons that will become clear later.

We did the first series with the Classic Compact sub-type, so that is the one we will use for the rest of them. That said, the car that we originally chose turned out to be not as good as we would have liked it to be in terms of handling, so this time around we are going to pick a different Classic Compact...

The selection of cars that we can choose from is exactly the same one as before - and as we have tried out the 1968 Lancia Fulvia and found it wanting, we thought we would go for a more familiar design and approach with the 1966 Ford Lotus Cortina, which is priced at 53,550 Cr.

Interesting story about the 1966 Ford Lotus Cortina - my Irish aunt actually owned one of these. When I spent a summer visiting them in Ireland they had lots of car troubles... The second week I was there the battery was stolen - and she needed the car to get to work. And did not have the money for a new battery. Me being a bush mechanic though, I had a solution...

The battery that the car used was a standard 12v one - it could have been a 6v system that would have made it more complicated, but it wasn't which was a good thing... Rooting around in the boot I found a battery powered lantern in the box of stuff that they used for going to music festivals.

I took the battery out in her garage and found the heaviest gauge wires I could, then stripped off the ends, and attached one end to the positive pole on the battery and screwed it down, then did the same with the negative end, then found a place I could really jam the battery in under the hood so it fit snug and tight and was not going to get loose even if she hit a bump. Or so I hoped anyway.

Then I found a bolt I could loosen on the frame and attached the earth wire there, then I wound the positive end around the bolt for the positive clamp, and wrapped that in electrical tape.

I explained to her that this would not start the car - for that she needed to disengage the gear and give the car a little push then jump in, drop it in gear and pop the clutch - that would let it start by turning the engine with the wheels. Once the car was started however, the camping battery would keep it running. No worries.

That bush fix kept her car working until the end of the week when she collected her pay packed and replaced the bush battery with a real car battery. Sadly those kinds of fixes just do not work on modern cars anymore because of all the electronics that draw on the battery but still, true story!

- = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = * @ * = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = -

Back to FM6 - which is what prompted that flashback memory - the Lotus Cortina is actually a fairly quick and nimble car for what it is. That is to say it was originally designed to be a sort of racer-commuter fusion every-man car - something peppy that you could actually afford. I suspected that I was going to like it a lot better than the Fulvia and, you know what? I did! And do!

Before I progressed in this series, I went back to the previous series and re-raced all of the races using the Cortina, and much to my happiness and surprise, I did WAY better. In fact I finished FIRST in every one of the races that I previously did um, not so well at...

To be completely transparent here, the first run using the Fulvia netted me the following results: Race 1: 3rd / Race 2: 3rd / Race 3: 4th (had to re-race it to get 2nd) / Race 4: 3rd. When I re-raced using the Cortina I not only finished in first place for all four races, but it was no contest whatsoever! There were no tight spots and no derfing.

So with that in mind, if you are getting poor results in your racing you might want to seriously consider switching into a different car. Just saying, it worked for us and for that reason we offer you car suggestions with each Series as noted below...

The second Series is broken down into five unique races for the E300 category of cars.

Race 1: Hockenheimring

* TRACK: Short Circuit (4 Laps) 1.64 M/L

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Increased Sway Bar Stiffness +3% Grip (Common) Boost/Green

Your performance for this track will benefit considerably from both power, braking, and weight reduction, but the issue of balance means you go with Power for the Crew Card and then Grip and Braking for the other two,

This course is very curvy with a lot of turns - and the two tricks to it are to NOT get caught in the packing that happens early on that can allow the lead cars to get too long a jump on you, and to be a little more aggressive than all the other racers in the turns and curves. Do that and you cannot lose, let alone fail to place in the Top 3!

Race 2: Brands Hatch

* TRACK: Indy (6 Laps) 1.21 M/L

* SERIES: Challenger Series.

* DIVISION: Classic Compact.

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 for a 6,800 Cr. Purse.

* Recommended Race Music: Twisted Sister - I Wanna Rock

Recommended Mod Cards

Each course can be made easier by using specific Mod Cards. If you do not presently own the version of a card we recommend, use the next version down that you do own. The recommended Cards for this track are:

(1) Powertrain Engineer +10% Power +6% Grip (Super Rare) Crew/Blue

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

While this has a higher lap count, it is also a shorter track, which means you will have faster racing that requires a smooth hand on the wheel... The course is nearly all turning, with little opportunity to get into high gear but, that said, you will still need some power for the long lazy curving main run.

The more we raced on this course, the more we kept telling each other: this is JUST awesome! This is the sort of course that Marty would dominate in his Blue Turd and Moog would HATE! Yeah!

Race 3: Bernese Alps

* TRACK: Alps Club (3 Laps) 2.52 M/L

* SERIES: Challenger Series.

* DIVISION: Classic Compact.

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 for a 6,000 Cr. Purse.

* Recommended Race Music: Europe - The Final Countdown

Recommended Mod Cards

Each course can be made easier by using specific Mod Cards. If you do not presently own the version of a card we recommend, use the next version down that you do own. The recommended Cards for this track are:

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Increased Sway Bar Stiffness +3% Grip (Common) Boost/Green

Setting up your car for this race means adding power and grip - a fair amount of grip - thanks to the curves. Using the above Mod Cards will give you a major edge beyond the edge that using one of the suggested cars will provide.

If we had to offer up a single word to describe this course, that word would be "forgiving." Seriously, this one is all gentle curves and easy turns and pleasant views - we think of it as more of a sight-seeing run than a race really!

You will find, once you locate just the right constant, that you can very easily complete this one with your brain in neutral! Yeah, but still fun.

Race 4: Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

* TRACK: Catalunya School (6 Laps) 1.06 M/L

* SERIES: Challenger Series.

* DIVISION: Classic Compact.

* REQ.: Finish in the Top 3 for a Purse of 6,600

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

A very short track with challenging geometry, this time we need to focus on Grip first, then Braking. Speed does not really play a role here.

Racing on the finest track that a municipal and private sector deal can possibly create, we once again find ourselves on a track that demands iron focus and perfect turns management and control. Considering the sort of cars we are racing in that really melds well!

1991 GMC Syclone

Your best lap will easily come in under a minute, this is a fast race with little in the way of forgiveness. So bring your A-Game, pay attention, and dominate!

Race 5: Silverstone Racing Circuit

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

Silverstone on a warm and sunny day is a pleasure to race on. Unfortunately this is NOT a warm and sunny day! That said, the thing to keep in mind here is that you are not going to be able to avoid ALL of the standing water, so do not even try. Instead work on maintaining control when you DO hit standing water.

Do that and you will find that obtaining a lead is not difficult - and once you have done so it is simply a matter of making as few technical mistakes as you can manage to cross the finish line in first place!

That victory will nicely wrap up this Series - and hey, well done you! Completing this race unlocks the next Series - U.S. Tour.

3. U.S. Tour (Series 3 of 15) 6 Races

Here is where we get to compete on the most famous tracks in America. And how about that?

As we began this by opting for the Classic Compact Category, we are sticking with that, which mans that we can either continue racing the car we have been, or we can choose from the following garage / purchase options:

  • 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA Stradale (77,700 Cr.)

  • 1966 Ford Lotus Cortina (53,550 Cr.)

  • 1967 Volvo 123GT (43,300 Cr.) DLC Car

  • 1977 Ford Escort RS1800 (77,300 Cr.)

  • 1980 Abarth Fiat 131 (51,850 Cr.)

Assuming you are happy with what you have been racing you can stick with it - or try something new!

(2) Flat Out +35 Power -1% Weight (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

Despite the relatively short length of the track, its layout represents an emphasis on long high-speed runs, broken up by a set of complex turns. That being the case you will find that Speed and then Braking and Grip are the best mod you can do to gain the greater edge.

This course is divided up into a nasty section of hard turns followed by a long graceful banked section for high-speed running. Essentially what that translates to is a need to combine lower-speed high-attention turning with wide-open high-speed runs over the finish line. Simple enough.

(2) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

Despite the relatively short length of the course, and its plentiful collection of curves and turns, this is a track that will benefit from boosted speed, braking, and grip, in that order.

This is one of those tracks you either really like - or really hate. Hopefully you like it. Completing this race will unlock the Showcase Event Moments in Motorsports: Unrestricted Early GT Racing. So there's that...

Race 3: Indianapolis Motor Speedway

(3) Precision +3% Grip +4% Braking (Uncommon) Boost/Green

For this course the emphasis must be on Speed and Grip. Braking is a bonus but if you lack cards containing both, you should focus on Grip...

While this is not the most technically challenging of the courses we have raced, it does have a definite personality of its own, that is for sure. Plus there is the whole iconic historic thingy going for it. Come on, admit it, you have ALWAYS wanted to race this track!

Race 4: Sonoma Raceway

* TRACK: Sonoma Short (4 Laps) 1.99 M/L

Sonoma begs for precision control, and that means putting ALL of your emphasis on Brakes and Grip and eschewing Power because why? Because it is Brakes and Grip that give you the edge you need to dominate this course.

Now here is another track that you wither really like a lot or you totally hate. Not sure why that is - probably because we really like it a lot? But we do! Don't you?

Race 5: Road America

* TRACK: Road America West (4 Laps) 2.17 M/L

Speed does not really play a role for this race due to the fact that there are no speed runs that allow you go work through the gears - so focus upon Grip and Braking and you will easily dominate the track.

A relatively fun tack to race on, it has a few turns that can easily annoy thanks to the fact that they are more there to annoy than to challenge, that said, hey, it is still fun! Completing this race will unlock the Showcase Event TopGear Stig 1-1: Corvette Z06 You Versus the Stig, so hey, that happened...

Race 6:Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

This is another track that requires control over speed. Focus on Grip and Brakes, and your driving of course.

Considering that this Series was billed as the special US Tour experience, it is odd that The Tracks that were selected number among the more mixed-range when you think about it. What we mean by that is that Laguna Seca is yet another track that is Love/Hate in terms of its being embraced by racers.

For the record? Laguna Seca is not one of our favs. Just saying. But having said that, we do not ever never allow our own personal annoyance to get in the way of our Forza fun.

One lesson that we learned is that all car body styles are not made equal. Having finally maxed the Affinity for Ford we opted to change rides - to a Fairlady for some Nissan love... But here is the thing, drive and handling totally different. Duh! We know, that is normal - but the wide range of difference was really surprising.

On that note, completing this race completes the Series - AND the Volume - so how about that? We not only get to see the tick-mark on Super Street Volume 1, but we get to unlock Sport Icons Volume 2!

So there ya go - and we will see ya there for sure, but NOT before we address a standing need in the form of the Showcase Events. Because at this point strategically it makes sense to go and do all of the unlocked and available SE's that we can both to get them done and to enjoy the wide range of racing experiences and fun that they represent.

So the WTG at this point will now go to the Showcase Events.
