Case #2: Find The Necklace

Walkthrough

The moment you arrive In Tahnti Park, you will discover that the Aipom that took the Necklace has been Attacked. Of course, it no longer has the necklace, meaning you will now have to Find out who attacked Aipom in hopes of retrieving the necklace. From here, the first thing you should investigate is Aipom. Using your magnifying glass, you will obtain a variety of Clues while searching over Aipom. The first is a strange black feather, possibly from the thing that attacked Aipom. You will also find a berry near Aipom, as well as some leaves, an empty can from the garbage, and a nearby newspaper. Once all of this evidence has been gather, you will try to piece the mystery together. Since the strange black feather is the best Clue you have, you will proceed with trying to find the Pokemon it belongs to in hopes of finding your culprit.

By speaking with one of the Park caretakers just to the left of where Aipom was found, you will discover that there are three different areas of the park and that four different types of birds can be found within said areas: Pidove can be found in the Fountain Area (where you presently are); Taillow can be found in the Cafe Area (to the right of the Fountain Area); while Murkrow and Starly can both be found in the Nature Area (to the left of the Fountain Area).

From here, you can begin to investigate by talking to everyone in the Fountain Area. Unfortunately, most of these characters won't be of much help to you. The boy by the fountain will be too busy trying to locate his pen to help, while Scraggy and his trainer have no idea what happened either (but will Note that the Aipom have been progressively getting meaner for some unknown reason). Of course, none of them will know whom the black feather belongs to.

Honestly, the only character that will be of aid to your search is the one sitting on the Park bench. He was feeding the Pidoves when the Attack on Aipom took place, but he will mention that Pidove does have some black on its feathers. Unfortunately, all the Pidove in the Fountain Area will fly away when you get near them. Thankfully, however, the man sitting on the park bench agrees to feed more of the Pidove if you are to get some food from the Cafe Area.

Once in the Cafe Area, there will be an older gentleman willing to answer your questions. Unfortunately, he won't be of much help either. He will Note that Aipom has been acting differently ever since Mightyena had come to the Park, but besides that, he can only guess that the strange black feather possibly came from Taillow. From there, you will be able to Find Tepig ruffling within the nearby bushes. Outside of saying it has been looking for berries, Tepig will be of no use either. Just south of Tepig, you will find a Taillow sitting on top of a table. When asked about the Necklace, Taillow will describe how it doesn't pick stuff up off of the ground. When asked about looking at one of its feathers, it will decline, stating how it doesn't like to be touched by dirty hands.

To the far right of the Cafe Area, you will Find a couple that you can also be interviewed. Both will mention that they have no idea about the Necklace you are looking for, as the only necklace they know about is the one the woman is wearing. Both will also think the feather could belong Taillow, with the man describing how Taillow sometimes loses its feathers after they clean themselves. From there, the final people you can talk to are the waitress at the cafe and your Slurpuff server. Unfortunately, they won't be of much help either, except for being able to give you some bread to feed to the Pidoves back in the Fountain Area. Before leaving the Cafe Area, you will be able to find a Taillow Feather near the table occupied by the older gentleman from earlier. By looking closer at it, you will be able to eliminate Taillow as your possible suspect.

Once back in the Fountain Area, you can give the man sitting on the Park bench the bread so he can feed it to the Pidove. After he does, you will actually be able to interview Pidove. It won't know all that much, but you will be able to grab one of its loose feathers for comparison. Unfortunately, by doing so, you will be able to eliminate it as a possible suspect as well. With both Pidove and Taillow eliminated from your search, you will have to head to the Nature Area to Find both Murkrow and Starly.

Once in the Nature Area, you should quickly come across three Starly perched on a bench. They don't recognize the black feather either, but they are willing to give you one of theirs to compare it to. After comparing the two feathers, you will Find that they don't Match. This leaves only one possible culprit as to who Attacked Aipom: Murkrow. If you ask the Starly a follow up question about Murkrow, they will tell you that Murkrow is known for liking shiny objects. When asked if they know of Murkrow's whereabouts, they answer by saying they believe one of the Aipom might know.

Not too far away from them, you will actually Find a Poochyena near an Aipom. Poochyena will be too preoccupied with playing to assist you, and it will actually prevent you from talking with Aipom. Since you can't chat with Aipom just yet, you will need to proceed with interviewing other people and Pokemon in the area. Not too far from them is another bystander, the same that will let you know that Murkrow sometimes fights with the Aipom in the area. This person will also let you know that the Aipom from earlier hasn't left the tree since Poochyena has been around.

From there, you can talk with Mightyena just to the left. It will let you know that it is nap time for Poochyena; however, one of them is refusing to do so. In order to be able to interview Aipom, you will have to Find this Poochyena and have it return to its mother. Mightyena will mention that Poochyena loves to play in the flowerbeds and shrubbery found within the Park, and, with this hint, you will be able to find Poochyena in the bushes near the dumpster on your way back to the Fountain Area.

With Poochyena dealt with, you will finally be able to talk with the Aipom in the tree. It doesn't know anything about the Necklace since it has been stuck in the tree because of Poochyena, but it will tell you that Murkrow has a nest in the large tree near the pond. At this point, you should be able to narrow things down to Murkrow being the one that Attacked the Aipom from earlier. With this knowledge, head to said tree near the pond at the beginning of the area.

After reaching the tree, Pikachu will initially look to climb it, sending you into the next Fast Action Event. Just then, Murkrow will arrive back to its nest, knocking Pikachu out of the tree and forcing you to finish the Fast Action Event by catching him. Since it has been determined that Murkrow was the one who Attacked Aipom, it's time to see if it has the Necklace. Unfortunately, even Murkrow doesn't have the Little Girl's necklace. Before all hope seems lost, Murkrow will mention how it noticed Burmy around the area where Aipom was at. With this new piece of information, you must now head back to the Fountain Area.

Once back in the Fountain Area, you will need to head to the tree near the bench that the Aipom is currently laying on. Tim will shake the tree, revealing a couple of the Burmy within it. After questioning the Burmy, you will ultimately Find out that one of the Burmy actually somehow got caught up in the fight between Murkrow and Aipom. Should you interview the boy playing soccer with Scraggy, you will learn that his ball had accidentally hit said Burmy, causing its cloak to come off. Since none of the other trees have Burmy within them and since no one else in the area will be of much help, you will need to proceed back to the Cafe Area.

Once there, you will learn from Taillow that it saw something similar to a Burmy, but this one was pink instead of a green. After interviewing the other other people in this area, specifically the waitress and the couple at the one table, you will learn that the Burmy you are looking for can now be found in its Trash Cloak within the big tree next to the cafe. By going to said tree, you will Find Burmy. Unfortunately, a couple of Wormadam will appear in order to protect Burmy, causing you to have to get your answers from them. However, after beginning to ask questions about the Necklace and the altercation between Aipom and Murkrow, they will demand proof of Burmy being involved before you will be able to talk to it.

Since you need more hard evidence before talking with Burmy, you will need to interview everyone once again in the Cafe Area. No one will be of much help to you now, except for the elderly gentleman sitting at the one table. He will tell how Burmy has three different forms, which makes Pikachu think that the pen the one boy in the Fountain Area lost could've ended up in the cloak of Burmy.

From there, head back to the Fountain Area and interview the boy who lost his pen once more. After learning of how he lost his pen the night before, Pikachu determines that you must Find out if it is now in the cloak of one of the Burmy. If you go to the Burmy within the tree in the Fountain Area, they will refuse to let you search their cloaks. Luckily, the soccer ball the boy and his Scraggy are playing with will actually hit the tree and cause the Burmy to fall out, revealing the lost pen but no Necklace. Because of this, you determine that the necklace must be apart of a different cloak found on a different Burmy.

With this knowledge, go to the caretaker at the beginning of the Fountain Area. You will quickly learn from her that the trash found in the garbage can near the Burmy tree was less than what was there before the altercation between Aipom and Murkrow took place. With all of this information, you will now be able to solve what really happened. After the fight between Aipom and Murkrow, the same that the one Burmy somehow got caught up in, said Burmy was hit by the soccer ball which caused it to lose its leafy cloak (why you found the leaves near the crime scene). After losing its grassy cloak, Burmy made a new cloak from the trash within the garbage can that was knocked over when you first entered the Park. When making said cloak, it, knowing no better, must have accidentally also incorporated the Necklace into said trash cloak!

Now having solved the Case, you will need to return to the big tree in the Cafe Area. With the proof of the leaves that Burmy used as its former cloak, you will then be allowed to search Burmy's trash cloak. Of course, you will Find the Necklace that Aipom originally stole. With the case now closed, you can finally return the necklace to the Little Girl. After closing the case and returning the stolen necklace, you will then go to the Baker Detective Agency. There won't be much to do here, outside of talking with Mr. Baker about Tim's father and his disappearance. Once you have, you will then be able to talk with Amanda in the waiting room of the agency. She will tell you what she knows, and then you and Pikachu will proceed to Harry's Apartment to investigate further.
