Custom music problem.

A while back I found out how you could put your own music in The Sims 3. And it wasn't until just a while back it started to kind of affect gameplay (or at least, I think it's affected it); When I go to switch to a different radio station other than custom music during gameplay, nothing plays (and I try to turn the radio on and off and it still doesn't really seem to help anything). Also, whenever I go to Create-a-Sim and Map-view the music doesn't happen to play there, either (well... actually, hardly anything plays except for the custom music, title screen, and loading screen. And things like whenever a Sim doesn't complete an opportunity, etc.).

So to get it all to play again or whatever, would I have to reinstall or is there some other way I could get it back?
I'll appreciate any answers.
