How do you get past the unseen thing blocking the entrence to the sixth gym

Go through Fortree City and on to Route 120. Go onto the bridge and find Steven. Battle the pokemon he finds and he will give you a Devon Scope. This Devon Scope lets you fight the invisible pokemon. You don't have to fight the one in front of the gym.

you dont have to fight the first one either i just hit run away and it still gave me the scope

you go to the end of the rout to the right then down and on the bridge your old friend will battle you and give you a item so you can see the invisible thing.
