I need some serious help. I beat the 7 Gym Leaders you need to fight before facing Giovanni, and I found the Secret Key.
 
 However, when I go to the Gym in Viridian City, it won't let me open the door. It keeps saying "The Gym is locked..." and then I fall off the ledge.
 
 Also, the old man that teaches you how to catch Pokemon has disappeared (or at least I can't find him).
 
 I'm wondering if the Gameshark that I used might have affected this, or if there is some way around it. Thank you so much for your help!

Make sure you have all of your badges. To do so hit start then go to Ash. Make sure the only face shown if the last one. If you still can't get in then your gameshark might have done something. The guy who shows you how to catch Pokemon shouldn't be gone.

Before you beat Giovanni in the gym you have to beat him in the Silph. Co Buliding.

G.S won't affect not getting in to the gyms and the dude that teaches you how to catch Pokemon always goes to get him back. When he shows you how to catch Pokemon follow him to the Poke mart and he won't be there and go out side and he'll be in the same place as usual.
