Raise all your pokemon to level 35-45 first. Make sure you have a pokemon that knows an attack to make the pokemon become asleep, paralized,or frozen and use that attack until it becomes whatever, weaken it, and start throwing. This will give you a better chance to actually put Zapdos(or any other legendary pokemon) in a greatball,pokeball,ect.

You might want to train your pokemon more. Wartortle evolves at level 36, Pidgeotto at 36, Charmeleon at 36, and trade pickachu to another game, use thunderstone, then trade it back. Train them to at least level 55.
