Campaign Part 2: Leon Must Die (5 of 7)
Right so now we know why Leon got all paranoid in the first Campaign - he got paranoid because we really are out to get him!
For this Mission our primary goals are to build as effective a Tourist Industry as we can. Why? Good question!
The reason why has a lot to do with Penultimo and his conviction that a small percentage of each tourist population is a concealed assassin! The idea being of course for us to get as large a tourist population as we can manage so that we have lots of cold blooded assassin tourists available for our attempt on Leon's life...
The recommended settings for this are:
Island: Puerto Coco
Economic Difficulty: Medium
Political Difficulty: Medium
Disasters: Occasional
As is usually the case, our first order of business is to make sure that the people and economy are both secure and well in hand. Prop up any weak areas and make sure that the money is flowing and pollution is under control, and then we start to build this new Tourist Industry in earnest...
To best accomplish that you will find the following information to be very helpful:
Whatever you do do NOT depend on Tourism as part of your economy! The rate at which you actually gain income from that industry is so slow that you cannot rely on it. Instead focus on building the ones that are renewable - agriculturally based basically - and get good income flow from those to support your Tourism Industry as if you never intend for it to be profitable in the first place.
When you take this apporach the Mission is suddenly very easy to win!
Once you complete the required Tourist Industry expansion and reach your goals you are given a choice to make in terms of the “attack” you will launch. That choice consists of the following:
Cold Reception: Send Kane naked pictures of Penultimo
Cruel nature: Hide a polar bear in the hotel room closet
Laughing Jester: Plant exploding utensils on the gala-dinner.
Which you choose probably says more about you as a person than anything else but bear in mind that some choices are more effective than others... Obviously. But probably not in the way you think...
Basically this is a scripted element and we already know how it comes out, but the choice you make above does have some effect on the way that the game unfolds from here. Not going to go into that, as each offers its own mild humorous path and it is best you discover that for yourself.
What we recommend is designating one side of the island - the beach side - as the Tourist area, and trying to focus all of your Tourism building there.
If you were aggressive on the matter of Research in this island - and you should have been - the first Achievement you will unlock is Retro-futurism (20G) Advanced to the Modern Era before the year 1960.
Completing the Mission also unlocks the Achievement Leon Must Die! (20G) Completed “Leon Must Die!”
As you will note you have really upset Leon's acolyte... Bad you!
