Mantine Surf is the newest Poke Ride style feature found within The Alola Region, being accessed on Big Wave Beach, Heahea Beach, Ula'ula Beach, and Poni Beach. Each island has a longer and more obstacle filled course from the one before it, and the main idea of Mantine Surf is to travel between the islands that make up the Alola Region as you try to complete certain tricks along the way. The more tricks you do, the higher your score will be; the higher the score you receive, the more Beach Points (Battle Points) you will earn to spend on Move Tutors and Shops within each beach.
In order to complete tricks, you will need to pick up speed by going up and down the waves, jumping off the top of waves to perform said tricks. Each trick will earn you points, as well as landing properly. You can learn and perform up to seven different tricks: Huntail Spiral (Right, Right, Right - Beginning of Game), Gorebyss Spiral (Left, Left, Left - Beginning of Game), Lanturn 360 (Up, Down, Up - Get Top Score In One Beach), Primarina Twist (Down, Down Down - Get Top Score In Two Beaches), Starmie 720 (Right, Left, Right, Up - Get Top Score In 3 Beaches), Magikarp Splash (Fail A Move Just Once During A Session - Beginning of Game), Over The Gyarados (Up, Right, Down, Left - Get Top Score In All Four Beaches AND Receive Surfing Pikachu Gift Pokemon).
Landing improperly, however, will cause you to lose speed. There are also a number of obstacles on each course - some of which other Pokemon - ones that will further causing you to lose speed if not navigated around. These given obstacles include: Large Rocks, Tentacool, Sharpedo, Wailmer, and Wailord.
But should you earn the top score in Mantine Surf on all four beaches, you will be able to earn a special Gift Pokemon from the man within the Surfing Association Building in Heahea City. This special Pokemon is a Pikachu, one that exclusively knows the move of Surf.
