Gamma Metroids are the next Evolution Chain of the Metroids directly after Alpha Metroids, and unlike its previous stage, Gamma Metroids can both crawl and fly. This, obviously, makes it much more difficult to defeat; however, they too have tendencies that can exploit weaknesses.
When in air, Gamma Metroids move back and forth while dropping electric balls at Samus. Ice Beams work best when they are airborne, as a charged shot to its underside will send it flying back to the ground. Once on the ground, Gamma Metroids will either charge at Samus or turn in defense. When charging, try to Counter it just like the Alpha Metroids, providing an opening when it becomes stunned. Its head and abdomen are its weak spots; hitting its shell will do no damage whatsoever.
When on the ground, Gamma Metroids also have two addition attacks: an Electric Shockwave and an Electric Zap Cannon. The Shockwave can be avoided by getting as far away as you possibly can. The Zap Cannon travels far, but it only travels in the direction the Gamma Metroid is facing, which makes it easy to be jumped or avoided. If a Gamma Metroid stops directly in front of Samus without sending an electric attacks her way, Counter before it can send its next attack.
Gamma Metroids will usually attack three times before they return back to the air. Some Gamma Metroids will even attack with fire attacks instead of electric ones. While these type of Gamma Metroids are practically the same in every single way, they have a Fireball Attack that works a little differently. Once its Fireball makes contact with a platform, the entire area it hits will be engulfed in flames. The only way to avoid this attack and ensuing damage is by jumping.
