Like the Metroid Queen, fighting Diggernaut can be a long and stressful battle if you're not prepared. You will also fight Diggernaut in three different phases; again, just like the Metroid Queen. The First Phase will see Diggernaut use its Giant Crushers to clear out everything in the room, so you'll have to spring to the air or the ceiling to avoid be demolished. Your best bet is to Spider Ball and attach to the ceiling, and then stay put until it's finished. This goes especially when the two crushers go at it on the ground.

After that, Diggernaut will lower its head, giving you a small chance to strike. You'll have tohit it with 10 Super Missiles or an equivalent amount of damage in order to move forward, all of which while avoiding the two laser spinners. Shoot then Space Jump just to be safe, and then do the process over again. If you don't do the appropriate amount of damage, yes, the crushers will come back. If you manage to do enough damage, the Right Crusher will break to the ground. Go near it after this happens and wait until the bottom gear to show its side. Cling onto it and wait for the second gear to do the exact same thing. From there, get to the top and do the same for the inside. Once on the purple orb, Bomb it to move onto the Second Phase.

Once the Second Phase begins, Diggernaut will drive its crushers into the ceiling, causing purple orbs to rain down. Even though this looks bad, it's actually a good thing. Run and shoot diagonally to remove the orbs in one of the corners. Go immediately there, and then shoot to the opposite side to remove the remaining orbs. This will drop lots of health and ammo, especially Super Missiles. After doing this, Diggernaut will lower its head once again. Do the same as before and launch those Missiles. Once the second crusher is lowered, cling to the flat surfaces like before. to proceed to the third and final phase.

The Third Phase begins with Lasers: the first wave of which can be avoided by a Super Jump to the top of the room, the second wave by a simple jump, and the third requires a single jump and an additional Space Jump. Next comes the Crushers, which Diggernaut will pound into the ground three times moving outward. Space Jump to avoid the first two hits, then go to the ground and run underneath the crusher before going back into the air to avoid the last one.

If Diggernaut starts inhaling air from side to side, avoid being sucked in as well. Use the Spider Ball to stay stuck on the ground, and then drop Bombs in the wind's path. This will slowly but surely damage Diggernaut, but it will take doing this a number of times to do enough damage to proceed. Once enough damage has been dealt, the Diggernaut will lower its head again. Use your Spider Ball to attach Samus and stop on the purple light. Wait for the blue lines of the Outer Circle to meet the Inner Circle, then Bomb the heck out of the purple light. Do this for all three to finally defeat Boss Diggernaut and earn the Power Bomb.
