Tips and Tricks for Beginners in Watch Dogs: Legion

Play with Permadeath On

In Watch Dogs: Legion Permadeath means that when one of the randomly generated and recruited operatives you play as takes enough lethal damage they will die and no longer be a playable character. There is no main character in Watch Dogs: Legion, every NPC you meet as your traverse the streets of London is a potential operative you can recruit so there is no shortage of agents. Therefore this being the case it is recommended that you play with permadeath on as each NPC comes with a specific set of skills that you can use for certain objectives and it allows you to match abilities with your immediate needs which makes completing the missions easier. It is important to remember that if you begin a game with Permadeath switched off you will not be able to change your decision without starting the game over.

Don't get Attached to your Starter Agents

After you finish the prologue in Watch Dogs: Legions you will be given the choice between several randomly generated civilians who will each have a different perk option. Don't get attached to this agent as all the perks on offer are pretty trivial and you will soon gain the ability to recruit anyone you want and the characters you will be able to unlock will be much better and will come with multiple perks.

How to Recruit Agents

In Watch Dogs: Legion you will literally be able to recurit any person you come across in the streets of London so they become a playable character and part of your DedSec team. To find out more about the potential recruits beforehand you simply have to hold the hack button on your conntroller on the character you are interested in to bring up information about them. This will include their name, occupation, and a list of traits allowing you to decide if they are worthwhile recruiting.

In order to actually recruit the character you will need to do a side mission for them which will likely take several minutes and a lot of traveling to complete. As you will still be trying to complete the campaign missions in order to progress in Watch Dogs: Legion you will need to determine whether you can waste the time recruiting that character. If at that particular point in the game it is not convenient to recruit the character you can hit and hold a button prompt to save them as a potential recruit so you can at a later time set a mission objective to find them again. The game will then tell you where the character can be found so you can locate them and do their mission to add them to your Dedsec team.

Upgrades Apply to your Whole Team

The currency used to upgrade your gear is Tech Points and there is no need to wait until you unlock a specific agent before you spend them as all the upgrades to your weapons, gadgets, and hacks apply to every agent on your team. The game will automatically assign your current weapon and gadget loadout to a new agent whenever you swap.

Use Cargo Drones to Travel

About an hour into Watch Dogs: Legion you will come across a Cargo Drone which your character, even if they have had no upgrades will be able to hack. The intended use of drones is to pick up obects and drop them on enemies but they are also big enough for your character to use them as a form of transport to reach high places and traverse the city quicker. You will be able to summon a Cargo Drone to you whenever you find a drone pad, these will be identifiable as a square icon with a circle in the middle.

Take Advantage of the Spiderbot Gadget

In Watch Dogs: Legion the Spiderbot gadget is a tool you should take advantage of whenever possible as it can help you substantially during the game due to its ability to perform stealth takedowns and hacks that reqire direct interfacing with the node. There are two types of Spiderbots, the Infiltrator and the Combat versions, both of which can be upgraded and swapped between. Even if for whatever reason your Spiderbot breaks you simply have to wait several seconds for it to come back. If you are playing the game with permadeath switched on the Spiderbot will save your agents.
