Scarlet Nexus is an action-JRPG from Bandai Namco iset on a post-apocalyptic "brain punk" future where technology and psychic abilities collide. Similar to most RPGs, Scarlet Nexus also has a skill tree system referred to in the game as “Brain Map”. In this guide, we will list down the skills you can learn and which ones to prioritize.

What is a Brain Map?

The game’s skill tree system is called Brain Map. You’ll start off with the three basic branches: Enhance, Expand, and Support. Two branches, Brain Drive and Brain Field will be added later as part of the story, as soon as you’re able to activate those powers. While some skill routes follow one progression path, there are certain skills that can branch into adjacent categories.

Furthermore, you can only learn skills in order. That means to learn the skill at the end of the progression path, you’ll need to unlock and learn all preceding skills along the way. Thankfully, all skills are already visible and can be previewed, giving you the chance to plan ahead accordingly.

How to learn new skills?

Every time you level up, you'll earn BP (Brain Points). These points are used to purchase and learn new skills in the Brain Map. The amount of points required will vary, averaging from 2-5 BPs, with the more expensive skills located at the end of the progression path. Since the BP requirement of skills will gradually increase, you'll need to level up twice or more to learn the more expensive (and powerful) upgrades/skills later on.

Priority Skills

You can learn all skills once your character reaches LV80. This can be tedious however and will add hours and hours of mindless grinding. Thankfully, you don’t really need to learn every skill to become a formidable force in the game. In this section, we will list down some of the skills you should get as early as possible.

Skill(s) Comment
Double Jump, Aerial Dash Double Jump and Aerial Dash are two skills that can be pretty useful both in navigation and combat. Aerial dash enables you to evade attacks in mid-air while also allowing you to even extend your mid-air combos.
Rebound This very useful defensive skill allows you to land on your feet without getting knocked down. A character that’s knocked down will slowly get back up to his/her feet while also very vulnerable to additional enemy attacks so having this skill ready for use will minimize the chances of it occurring.
Latent Power > Additional Plug-in Slot 1 > Concurrent SAS Activation > Brain Crush EXP Bonus > Auto-Heal Auto-Heal skill is an end-path skill so you’ll be forced to learn all the skills we’ve listed. Don’t hesitate about learning these skills since they’re very useful anyway. With this skill learned, your Yuito or Kasane will quickly recover their health outside combat. This will also allow you to save your healing items and keep your HP in top condition before a fight, planned or otherwise.
Brain Crush SAS Restore Finishing off an enemy using Brain Crush will replenish a lot of SAS gauge energy.
Brain Drive Gauge Charge Rate Up This skill only costs 2 BP. Since Brain Drive is activated automatically, speeding up the brain drive accumulation rate will help you activate this helpful feature sooner. Brain Drive is also required to activate Brain Field, a feature you can unlock later in the story.
Max Psychokinesis Gauge Boost There are two skills of the same name in separate progression paths. Get both of these skills to be able to max out your psychokinesis gauge, allowing you to perform more PK actions in combat.
Power Up 1, Attack Up These skills costs 2BP and will permanently give a 5% boost to your PK and weapon attacks.
Weapon and PK Crush Effect Up Get these skills once you have established the other ones on this list since these will help you deplete the enemies’ crush gauges faster. This is very useful against bosses or tough enemies that can only be killed by a Brain Crush.

The game may seem tough especially in the beginning since you don't have access to the useful skills. However, as you unlock more of these important combat skills, you'll discover how fluid and dynamic Scarlet Nexus' battle system is. While it is possible to learn all skills, the time and patience it will take to reach the required level to earn enough BP to do that is something that's not doable for anyone. That's why prioritizing which skills to get first will help you improve your experience as early and optimally possible.
