Weapon Techniques and Stamina

Thank you for printing this page from to come back to check for updates to this guide and much more content for Horizon Forbidden West

In Horizon Forbidden West, players are given access to a wide variety of weapons that Aloy can use at her disposal against a wide array of human and machine enemies. In our Weapon Skills and Stamina page, we will discuss this new feature of the game, and how you can take advantage of it.

What is Stamina

The game introduces the Weapon Stamina system that Aloy can use in combat. This is a separate gauge that gets slowly depleted whenever Aloy activates a Weapon Skill. Like Concentration, this gauge replenishes over time as well but the gauge’s amount and recovery speed can be further enhanced by learning the corresponding skills. The amount of stamina consumed will vary by weapon skill. The stamina gauge is the yellow gauge above your Valor Surge gauge in the lower-right corner of the screen.

What Weapon Techniques

Weapon Techniques are powerful activated abilities that consume stamina. Take note however that some skills also consume more ammo (of the same type) when used so make sure your shot counts! As the name suggests, they are tied to particular weapons and are automatically available for use as soon as you switch to that weapon. This makes weapon skill usage streamlined and easy to use, since the button command remains the same.

You can find these weapon techniques in Aloy’s Skill Trees, as listed below:

* Warrior Bow: Warrior

* Tripcaster: Trapper

* Ropecaster: Trapper

* Hunter Bow: Hunter

* Boltblaster: Hunter

* Blastsling: Survivor

* Shredder Gauntlet: Survivor

* Sharpshot Bow: Infiltrator

* Spike Thrower: Machine Master

One weapon can have 2-3 different skills. However, you can only set one weapon skill active. Thankfully, you can do this on the fly by simply opening the weapon wheel and using the left/right DPAD buttons to toggle between the skills.

Once your stamina runs out, you won’t be able to use the Weapon Technique until you have enough stamina recovered. Your stamina will replenish automatically over time. If you have Food and specific potions, you can even replenish your stamina instantly - especially during the heat of battle. The Silent Strike Gain skill under the Infiltrator skill tree recovers some weapon stamina and Valor when killing enemies with Silent Strike.

Weapon Techniques are quite potent and can even change Aloy’s overall flow of combat. To learn which skills to prioritize, please follow our dedicated page for it.

That concludes our Weapon Techniques and Stamina Guide for Horizon Forbidden West. We hope that this information helps you in your exploration and adventure. For more content regarding Horizon Forbidden West, please refer to our online guide here at Supercheats.
